  1. She is so young and so smart now. Does that scare you? Wow!
  2. Don't use treated wood as it contains toxic materials. Only use untreated wood that is safe for birds. Some species are better than others. Consult a vet list of toxic and nontoxic species.
  3. We totally need more information. Like how did you acquire this Grey and why? What kind of set up do you have? How many other people are in your household, and that kind of thing. The more we know about you, the better we can advise.
  4. I think you and Spencer are well on your way to creating a good relationship. Just the fact that you hang out nearby and are accessible are great starters. Just be patient, Spencer is working as hard as he can, and it appears he is doing an admirable job!
  5. If he loved you at the pet store he will love you at your home too. Just be kind, relaxed, and patient if you want to see improvement. He is a baby (2 Years old is still a baby) after all and in a completely new situation. He's probably scared. He needs reassurance and tenderness to help develop the necessary trust needed to foster a new relationship. Move slowly and speak softly.
  6. Love my grey more than anything, but our amazon is so different and wonderful. i would not trade having both a grey and an amazon. They seem to fill in the blanks to make a complete bird experience. Congratulations!
  7. Welcome Ismail, I have been to Dubai. What a great mix of tradition and new technology! My bird does not like to poop in his cage either. I think that is a good thing as they do not want to dirty their "house" so to speak. Just like some other owners, they soon will have places outside their cages where they customarily relieve themselves, and the clean up will be relatively simple.
  8. How sweet! You are putty in his hands- so to speak.
  9. What a great time! He is so adorable in the "saucer eyes" shot.
  10. I think you will all have a good time. I hope it is the start of more adventures.
  11. Wow! Nice job Jeff and Gracie. That will be great to bring Gracie to work. How fun. Keep us posted.
  12. Only six months old-very impressive. You have your hands full! <G>
  13. My vet suggested that we weigh our bird after his morning deposit, in order to get a feel of what his normal weight range can be. Why this is a good idea? Because if a bird is sick he can lose weight imperceptibly until he becomes very sick. I thought this was good advice. We weighed Brutus every day for a couple of years. Now we only weigh him every few days. We also get yearly checkups with our avian vet.
  14. They do, of course, have a preference, BUT they can learn to love everybody! Do not despair. Be patient and build trust. Our CAG prefers me but my husband has a great relationship with him. The only difference is in the evening he likes to cuddle with me, and that is the only thing that cannot be changed. Brutus is affectionate with my husband all the rest of the time. That's pretty good, don't you think? Right now they are having one-on-one time in his office. Brutus loves us both, and you can develop the same situation too.
  15. Have you tried contacting Greyhound societies or rescue operations? I bet they would have some insight into your situation.
  16. When I announce that it is time to go outside in the sunshine Pancho crawls in his cage and shuts his door in anticipation of going outside. I think this is so cute! He is being helpful! He LOVES going outside, especially when he gets a shower too!
  17. That is just fantastic for you and the birds! I may get one of those strollers to take my guys for walks.
  18. That is awesome SP! How did you work up to that amount of traveling?
  19. Why not let him out? Mine doesn't bang but he says he wants out all sorts of ways. I figure if he really wants out, he should be out. He is so happy to stretch his wings, he says, "Big birdie stretch...ohhhhh!"
  20. I am so sorry this is happening to you guys. I have found that regular trips outside for sun exposure has stopped this behavior from progressing for my grey. Also, I feed a cooked chicken drumstick bone to Brutus once a week for needed nutrition. These two actions I believe helped him not to continue mangling his feathers. He hasn't done it since I added these changes. I am sure there are other solutions that will be offered, but this worked for Brutus. Any suggestions of applying Aloe is just addressing the symptoms and not the cause.
  21. We have a CAG, a Panama Amazon, and a Quaker and they keep me busy and laughing. There will be no more additions.
  22. Nice to know when the "season" occurs. I was wondering when and if Pancho will start to exhibit mating behavior. So far, nothing different. He does prefer men though, especially, Hispanic men.
  23. So far Pancho has been very sweet. But the nice thing about Amazons is they are completely up front about how they are feeling. If I see pinning eyes, a flared tail, and a low crouching stride, I know to stay away. If he does get ornery I will let him tell me what he wants and is capable of during that time.
