lovemyGreys wrote: Yes the top can be removed, but I don't have a play gym (unless you count the curtains!) The rest of the time she steps up from the top of the cage nicely. Its only in the mornings. I am thinking maybe I should leave her in until the kids are gone to school, but that would be 1-2 hours she would be missing out on. And she has been out before breakfast every day since forever. All ideas gratefully received. This is driving me nuts. If anyone watches this and thinks I am doing something wrong in the way I am asking her to step up... please tell me. Some little tiny detail will crack this one! Siobhan PS Thanks for not laughing!:laugh:

Do they adopt back out the parrots that they take in? Or are they there for the rest of their days?
-
Well, to say that it didnt go very well this morning would be the understatement of the century. I filmed a short piece of my attempt to get her back in the cage so you can see what I mean by spinning. At the beginning I am going to get Oisin and you can hear Liath in the background telling him to step up... the little madam knew that it was time to go to back in for breakfast. After I shot this, I put down the camera so I could use 2 hands and eventually I got her back in her cage using brute force. The treat didnt work and I was running out of time to get the kids to school.

Jane08 wrote: The truth is you can't but I'd imagine the odds of them staying bonded to you is far greater than if they are in the same cage. My 2 are definitely bonded to each other, they love each other dearly most of the time, but they also have squabbles. And they are both bonded to myself and my husband! I have them caged separately due mainly to advice I got from very knowledgeable people on this forum. I think they have the best of both worlds, they get out time together, but they have a place to call their own, when the going gets rough :laugh:

No neither of mine have been DNA'd. I decided Liath was a she, and the breeder thought Oisin was a he. I am pretty sure they are different sexes, but whether we have them the right way round or not I have no idea :whistle:

{Feel-bad-0002006A} Its not funny!!!! What should be a 2 second exchange turns into a pantomime. I have to drag a chair over to the cage. Stand up on it (which is no mean feat because I am TERRIFIED of heights:pinch: ). And try to convince my dumb bird to step up. Meanwhile she is hanging upside down and she is saying "Come on Liath, Good Girl, Come on", and I'm agreeing with her all the while. And I'll push her upright, and she says Huh? And spins upside down again. And the kids are laughing, and Oisin is laughing. And 10 minutes later she finally says "Do you wanna step up?" and steps nicely onto my hand :huh: I can't physically get her feet off the gym cos she hangs on so tight So have to stay there till she is good and ready... so please.... any other ideas? I'm dying here {Feel-bad-00020066}

I know... I am smart, but she is smarter:blush: But how do you make an upside down bird step up? If I push her upright again and then ask her to step up, she just spins around till she is upside down again
-
Liath is now playing a new game. She understands step up very well. If I put my hand up to her, she says Do you wanna step up? And steps up very nicely.... most of the time:unsure: . In the past couple of weeks when she is on her play gym and I need to put her away for meal times or whatever, she swings upside down and stays there. There is no way I can grab her and put her away, and there is no way she will step up. This only happens when she really hasnt been out for long enough. Like first thing in the morning I let them out for an hour or so until the kids are ready for breakfast, and then put them back in while they eat. She gets out again after they have gone to school. Its so frustrating because she is obviously doing it so she can stay out :blink:

Perhaps we should call them Kim and Aggie :laugh: How clean is YOUR house ????? (TV program over this side of the atlantic!)

19 years!! You should be telling US what to do .. most of us have greys that are only a couple of years at most. Oh my! I bet you could tell us a thing or two about greys... What they are like as they get older, how their interests change or stay the same over the years. Your grey is older than my kids... Wow... I know the plucking is a new thing... but when you get it sorted can you hang around and give us some tips and pointers? Please??????
-
Aw, you are so excited its contagious! I am curious why you particularly want a boy? As the others say the grey will do the choosing. But I had no choice with either of mine, and they are both totally adorable!
-
Sooo cute!!! They will come round... maybe not lovey dovey, but eventually they will tolerate each other (she says confidentally!)

She is a beautiful bird Judy. So photogenic. When people think of parrots I am sure that is the kind of bird they have in mind. She is gorgeous (I want one )

BMustee wrote: That has to be the funniest bird I have ever seen... she is adorable but hilarious. Normally I feel kind sorry for birds that pluck, but she seems proud to show off :lol: :lol:

Hi Millie, Welcome to the Grey Forum! You bring lots of colour to your new Mum's life! Just don't keep her from us for too long:laugh: Congratulations Tracey, she is adorable !!!!

Thanks guys Dan: Siobha - If both your Grey's are eating the same items, their poop should be fairly similar. The exception being if one consumes more water or veggies and fruit than the other. --- Nope they arent, Liath eats everything and anything, but no pellets and hardly any beans. Oisin loves his bean mix and eats some seeds and pellets. Pchela: didn't mean to alarm you siobha! Seriously, I've had birds for about 2 months now and no prior experience so I'm definitely no expert. --- You didnt alarm me as such, I was thinking along the same lines myself. Its just it would have to be life or death to get an appt with the avian vet. My regular vet,as he says himself, does beaks, wings and toe trims, and first aid. Judy: the "ancient art of poopology", none of us may have studied it but we all take lessons in it firsthand every day --- we sure have as we attempt to remove it from our clothes, our floors and our furniture.
-
Gulp... Problem is there are no avian vets... well I lie, there is one in Ireland, but she is a very long way away. He has always been like this, I've had him since he was 4 months.... and there has been no improvement or decline in the quality of his poop:S
-
I know we have probably done this poop topic to death, but I have a question I havent been able to find an answer to. Oisin has very strange poop. It is mostly watery, with only a little green and usually (though not always) no white at all. It is especially watery if he gets grapes, so he is limited to one every now and then but definitely not every day. He is almost 1 and is absolutely fine in every other way. His diet is bean mix, pellet and seed mix and very little else, he is a very fussy eater. Should I worry at all?
-
It must have been the day for baths, my two got dunked today too! He is really funny trying to fit in to the dish though isnt he? Dayo the clown... you could hire him to the circus! {Feel-good-0002006E}

At the end of the day your health has to be more important than our pets. I am really sorry you have to find a new home for him, as a month is plenty long enough for you to have bonded with him. But you have to consider your health, and it sounds like he will be happy in his new home.

Welcome Tweety, I used to have a pair of kakarikis, they are lovely, though feisty little characters. And they bite worse than a grey :dry: Good luck in your quest to find your grey.
