What a great competition. Thank you for all the super entries and for a record number of votes. Well there can only be one winner, or in this case 2 winners!!! We had a tie for first place with cflanny and digitalfeather coming first... And cflanny also coming third! Well done to both of you

Congratulations!! Thats great news that "he" is settling in so well:). I like Skye... but names are such a personal thing... just let us know when you have decided

Congratulations Carolyn. I am sure you will do a terrific job

SOunds like my caique with my husband! Iron bars wont keep him from attacking him:P Who knows what triggered it, it could well be something in his past, but I think you are right to hide it from him.
-
If you cant tell if he is afraid of the toy or just playing with it, I would err on the side of caution and keep it from him. There is no point in scaring him unnecessarily and he has lots of other toys that he does enjoy.

They are gorgeous photos Frank. I love the detail you get into your pictures. One day I will invest in a decent camera and you can give me lessons:P

He is really beautiful isnt he? And my favourite is the mouth open wide one too I have done the relocation thing across the Atlantic Ocean (and back again) and I know exactly what you mean. Life will settle in a new normality for you soon I hope! Siobhan

A CAG is a Congo African Grey, it is a larger bird, black beak and bright red tail. A TAG is a Timneh African Grey, it is slightly smaller than a CAG, has a bone coloured beak and a maroon coloured tail. Speech wise, and personality I dont believe there is much in the difference between the two, they are both highly intelligent and beautiful birds Siobhan

There has been a terrific response to this contest both in the number of entries and in the number of votes! I shall leave the voting open for another couple of days in case anyone has yet to vote. Remember it only takes a second and anyone can vote even those of you who prefer not to post to the forum;) We have some brilliant entries and it is a tribute to those who have entered that the response has been so high! So this is your last chance to vote if you havent alreadyB)

Hi Slurms, Welcome to the grey forum! I'm afraid your brother is partly right in calling you a wuss;) If his grey knows you are afraid of her, and that you will pull your hand away when she bites, she will bite to get you to remove your hand! You do need to stick with it if you want her to step up. There are lots of threads here about teaching your grey to step up, and on biting. Just use the search box at the top of the screen to find them. You can interact with her without actually picking her up though. Even talking to her, or playing with a foot toy with her will keep her amused.

That is so funny! She knows exactly what peek a boo means too doesnt she? Another example of how clever greys are;)

Annmarie do you realise that when you make comments like that you are alienating yourself from most of the members here? As a very high percentage of us got our greys from breeders as chicks. And some of us are also breeders? You have said that you hope breeding will be banned in almost all of your posts, we heard you the first time and the second and third time... leave it now eh?

luvparrots wrote: Well said!!! I also admire people who rescue parrots, but everybody has to start somewhere and when you are inexperienced with parrots but totally ready to learn then I think you are right to start with a grey with no baggage. I also started with a baby because I didnt have the knowledge to take on an older bird. I have since rescued a caique. Maybe someday you and I will be in a position to rehome an older grey;) Karma to you luvparrots

I thought this thread was about pet greys not breeding greys:unsure:  My greys are pets;)

His beak looks normal. I have never trimmed my greys beaks. They have concrete perches and lots of wooden blocks to chew on and this keeps their beaks in shape.

Oh that is very sad. Maybe this third one will be fertile! I hope you will be giving us an update soon that you are to be a grandma;)

Hi Clare, I really sympathise with you on what has happened with Harvey It is so upsetting when the grey you love so much chooses someone else as their favourite. I am sure you have read how greys can have a preferred human, but this doesnt mean he will always bite and lunge at you. You have hit the nail on the head when you say you are nervous of him now, Harvey knows this. You will need to work much harder than Gavin to gain his trust, this starts with not reacting when he bites and not letting him know you are nervous of him. Don't let Gavin give Harvey any of his favourite treats, and he will soon learn that you are the source of all things yummy.Only give him the treat if he is being nice to you and he will learn that in order to get the treat he cant lunge at you;)

Congratulations!!! I shall wait a few years for a grandchild I hope as my eldest is only 14, but it will be nice to be able to hand them back:P I agree it would be lovely to have a little girl to spoil;)

We have a couple of members from the south east! We are delighted you have joined the forum and hope you find all the help you need here;)

I alo have 2 greys and I second Kaedyns comment that it much more work to have 2 in most respects. A big advantage to having 2 is less waste foodwise. When I was cooking for one grey I found I would always have too much. Now they share. My 2 greys very recently moved into the same cage after knowing each other for almost a year. It is a very large cage and they do tend to chill in opposite corners, but they play together very well also. I realise that I am very very lucky that my greys like each other. And I had set it up so that they could remain separate initially. They still need separate cuddle time though and separate play time with me;)

{Emotions-00020075} You really have to be on your toes here  Oh and its nothing like oatmeal... I love that... its like you took oatmeal and blended it for about 4 hours until it resembles dust and then cooked it "with" water or milk:P Disgusting... looks and tastes like baby food!
