  1. Aw, poor Elmo! Glad to hear everything turned out ok!
  2. How's everybody doing? I had to change my Curves location since I changed jobs. This week has been a little off because of the holiday, but I'm trying to get back into the swing of things...If I make it to Curves tomorrow I will have just squeaked in the requisite 3x.
  3. Oh my goodness those are some funny stories! Today we painted the kitchen, so we moved Klaus down here into the computer room and set up a system with fans so that no paint fumes could come near him. He was quite happy to visit with computer room traffic all day long. Then at dinner time we forgot to move him back. We were settling in when I heard the most pitiful little cry! So of course I had to roll him back to his usual spot near the dinner table and give him some potato and broccoli... They are something else! LOL
  4. Oh, yes, paper! I gave Klaus an old toilet tissue roll today with a teeny bit of tissue still on it. You should have seen the look of, "Yessssss!" on his face when he realized the extra shred-ability! LOL
  5. To ease the transition back into the cage (and life in general for both you and your bird) I would suggest being consistent as possible every day as far as what time the bird is out and how long he's out for. Klaus knows that every day at 6:00 pm he's getting out and that he'll be out for at least a couple of hours. When it's time to put him back in I dim the lights and begin talking softly to him about it being bed time. I give him a lot of pets and TLC, then slowly get him on my finger and move him into the cage. He is used to this routine and generally doesn't give me trouble. If he happens to be out at an odd time (which doesn't happen often) - or he's giving me trouble for some reason, I will show him a nice walnut or similar treat and put it in his bowl. 99% of the time, he'll clamber in to get the treat. Good luck!
  6. That's funny...Klaus and my cat pretty much leave each other alone. I will even pick up my cat and pet her and coo over her and Klaus doesn't seem to be the least bit jealous. I'm really lucky I guess!
  7. Funny, I've never even dreamt of Klaus much less had a nightmare. Weird...
  8. I think Klaus has the same toy as Lyric: The green ball with the bell inside that they can swing from. Klaus plays with that one ALL the time. He loves to attack it! I love the idea of the rubber duckies...I will have to pick some up!
  9. I have spent quite a bit of time on You Tube enjoying various Grey antics with Klaus on my shoulder acting bored, frankly. Then one day we watched a video of Makena on here and he really reacted...he was very interested, and babbling back. So I think he just has a "thing" for Makena!
  10. I've never worked with fresh green beans before... Klaus loves 'em, though - whether we're having the canned ones or the frozen ones. He definitely likes them warm, though.
  11. Hmmm...there are a few which Klaus goes crazy for. You can pretty much guarantee he'll go back in his cage peacefully if you pop a walnut into his dish. He digs noodles an awful lot. And if I really want to spoil him rotten I give him some oatmeal. Those are just a few!
  12. Congrats to all! I enjoyed checking out the pictures...
  13. Happy Hatch Day from Laurie & Klaus!
  14. One of my favorite foraging treats for Klaus is to take an empty toilet tissue roll, crimp one end, put a nut inside, then crimp closed. Very easy to do and cheap. Klaus knows just what to do when he sees one of those in his cage!
  15. Ok, no photo. Those of you who know me know that I am hopeless - I do not own a digital camera. At least in part b/c I know myself too well. I'll get the darn thing and then never learn how to use it. Any-hoo sorry for the lack of attention. Summer is winding down and I'm spending every spare moment outside - not much computer time. I have been working out religiously (Curves at least 3 times a week - walking, running, and/or biking on days that I don't go to Curves.) And yet my weight stays the same. It doesn't really bother me, though. I feel healthy. I figure if I gain muscle before I lose fat, so be it. As long as something is improving right? LOL
  16. I give Klaus grapes in his cage. In fact, most eating is confined to the cage area because he is soooo messy! Anyway, he eats the grape and drops the skin. I'm with you Jimmy, I can't get here nearly as often as I used to. It's summertime right now so I'm spending as much time outside as possible. It's great that this group doesn't care if you show up a couple of times a week or a couple of times a month. Great (GreYt!) people.
  17. Great story! I don't think Klaus will be far behind. In addition to the zillion noises he makes and songs he whistles, he now mutters "Pretty bird. Pretty, pretty bird." under his breath. LOL
  18. Klaus will eat any kind of oatmeal. He just loves it! I use the packets and prepare it with water, in the microwave, no milk. Sometimes I will offer warmed baby food with it (such as carrots or squash). This helps me to sneak some good nutrition into him.
  19. Klaus was brought home because my husband and son wanted a bird. I am not a "bird person" and told them they could have a bird but that I would not take care of it. After Klaus had been here about a week, it became clear that he had chosen me to be his main person. I did not see that coming! I now provide 99% of Klaus' care. I'm the one that fusses and worries over him.
  20. Hi, and welcome! Well, yes - TV remotes are evil and must be killed! LOL Actually Klaus' thing is buttons - I have to be very careful not to wear anything with buttons (unless I don't care if the buttons go). Buttons are like crack to him.
  21. I feel so silly - I cannot remember the brand name. I don't know if you have Home Depot near you? You could try Home Depot.com to get the brand name, then Google the brand to see if there are any stores near you. Sorry!
  22. Congrats! That's great news!
  23. Yes, Mr Phelps is pretty easy on the eyes! I'm enjoying the Olympics, too ... I'm very impressed with all the athletes. I missed the little "drama" with the French. Zut alors!
  24. Yep, if you want to make Klaus reeeeaaaallly happy, just break out the oatmeal. He will stuff himself silly, then doze on his perch in a state of bliss, grinding his beak. LOL
