  1. Thank you soooo much for re-posting Dave's "Thanksgiving Meal" post - hilarious! And so true! I think my favorite line is the one about cleaning up the cranberries "accidentally" flung to the floor. Hope you all are having a great holiday weekend!
  2. Here is the latest update: I am still smoke free here at the 8 month mark! I have saved over $1,200 and the # of cigs I have *not* smoked is over 4,000. Yay me! =)
  3. You guys are KILLING me! LOL I have discovered that Mr. Clean works, too. Spray it on. Let it sit for a few minutes. Wipe away. Viola - works great!
  4. I want to go to London!!! I love listening to Brits talk!
  5. Hey, Caroline! Sorry I'm taking so long to get back. Life just keeps getting busier and I don't have time to visit here as often as I'd like! Anyway, no the snow hasn't stuck but it has been unseasonably cold here in Michigan even for November. I've lived here all my life and I don't think I'll ever get used to the cold. How about you, Goralka08? I see you're from Michigan, too...
  6. I have gone all over the pet store getting stuff for Klaus. Cat toys, hamster toys, even in the dog section they have teeny-weeny dog toys (like what you'd give a Chihuahua) and Klaus loves 'em!
  7. Today is Sunday. I went for a one-hour walk with my son earlier this morning. Then came home to do chores. Popped outside this afternoon to run the lawn mower over the leaves that are scattered about the yard when it started snowing. Stuck with it (like an idiot - I'm sure the neighbors were amused to see me out mowing the lawn in the snow) as long as possible before giving up as I no longer could tell where I'd "mowed". Cleaned Klaus' cage really well and fixed him some oatmeal. Now I'm waiting for hubby to put dinner on ... I'll collapse in front of the TV after dinner! Hope you all are having a great day! We have a lovely inch of snow here...doesn't seem like it's going to stick though.
  8. Klaus loves potato ... all kinds and prepared all different ways. I thinks it's a close second only to oatmeal as far as his fave food!
  9. I just accidentally discovered that if I put a wadded up bunch of tissue paper on top of Klaus' cage, he will stay quite occupied for a while shredding at it until it's finally all down. I was cleaning and threw it up there for later when Klaus would be coming out. Klaus started the party early and starting playing with it from inside. It's fun because while he's still in the shredding process, streamers of it hang down from the top of the cage. Looks kinda festive! Also, don't fret too much if your bird seems bored. Remember, they need some quiet time and even little birdie naps throughout the day...
  10. I'm not sure, but I though pupil dilation meant they were intrigued by something. In Klaus' case, it's usually food. LOL Good job, though, sounds like you're making progress!
  11. Karma to you, Dave! I think we can all relate, absolutely! LOL
  12. Bandages might make the bird nervous. But that might be a good thing LOL! Try looking at George sideways. Narrow your eyes, lower your head and stick your chin out a little. This makes you appear friendly. Also, always approach from the side or the back - never from the front or the top as this will put the bird into "self defense" mode. Using these techniques during interactions with your bird might reduce biting. Good luck!
  13. Hello there! Do not worry about your spelling. We'll know what you mean. (You should have just said your bird was typing it...we'd have believed you! LOL) Anyway, probably one of your best bets is to just scroll through the various posts here - you will find a ton of info. And if you still have questions, fire away! There's no such thing as a stupid question, and everyone will be patient and kind - I assure you!
  14. Klaus would allow chewing of all doorway moldings, pooping on all furniture, and "free run" of the dinner table...

    Laur!

Klaus has learned to imitate the way my husband calls me. "Laur!" It is hysterical! Sunday morning at about 5:00am my husband was snoring so I stumbled out to the living room (where Klaus is) to try to salvage a little sleep. As I'm settling into the couch, here's Klaus with: "Laur! Laur!". I had to giggle and say, "Yes, that's right Klaus. I'm going to sleep out here with you for a while..." I can't even begin to list all the things he is saying and the noises he's making now. It's getting to be a blur. One of the things he does is exclaims: "Jungle birdie!" then bobs his head as though dancing. Also barks like the neighbor dogs. Imitates the stove timer beeping. Right now he's making "Kapow! Kapow!" noises. Fighting off the bad guys, I guess.
  16. LOL Welcome to the world of greys! When they are not gabbing or playing they are EATING!
  17. I'm glad to say that (1) I will vote tomorrow and (2) I will not be voting for the lesser of two evils. I believe in my candidate, and I am glad to cast my vote. I am lucky - the school where I go to vote is 3 doors down from my house, so I only have to slip out a little before 7:00 am, pop in and vote, then pop home and go about my day (getting myself and my son to work & school) as usual. I am excited this week - this country is in desperate need of a breath of fresh air!
  18. Hopefully I'm not too late to say "Bye" to those that are leaving. It was great interacting with you here, and I'll miss you!
  19. Hey, everyone! I got weighed and measured at Curves yesterday: I lost one pound and my body fat percentage is down 2%. We have the electronic Curves now which is helping a lot. Do any of the other Curves ladies have the electronics yet? If so, how do you like it?
  20. I will throw in an extra 2 cents or so here... Make sure when you are approaching the bird, approach from the side or the back. When you come at them from the front, or from above, they can get defensive. Turn your face so that you are looking at the bird sideways, narrow your eyes and lower your head a little. This makes you appear friendly. Also, Klaus fell in love with me in the first place because I ignored him (he was not supposed to be my bird). So it might be worth playing hard-to-get...greys love a challenge! Good luck!
  21. Beautiful pictures! I love the name... Funny, I had a cat that I named Annabelle. When "she" was at her first vet visit, they called to say I might want to change my pet's name. Yup. Annabelle turned out to be a boy. We still called him Annabelle. Or sometimes Hanibal. He didn't care! LOL
  22. The best treat I can give Klaus is oatmeal...it's definitely his favorite! I've always given Klaus the plain stuff, but will try the apple-n-cinnamon (thanks for the suggestion Dave - never occured to me!). Ready Break sounds a bit like the Cream 'o Wheat we have here in the States. I've not tried giving that to Klaus yet, but I'm sure he'd love that, too. I think what gets him about it is that it's warm & mushy. He doesn't get warm, mushy food too often. Probably reminds him of his baby-hood. LOL
  23. Shivan, Bob! Nice to meet you. My name is Laurie. LOL
