  1. I went through the same thing with Klaus not liking my son. I think it is because, try as they might, kids just can't be as quiet, gentle, and MELLOW as you need to be in order to not freak a grey out. Even if your son is as quiet and gentle as he can be, your bird may have witnessed him being boisterous and now doesn't trust your son. Things may improve in time, though. My son can now pet Klaus sometimes, but only when Klaus puts his head down for a pet. Good luck!
  2. I wish I could take credit, but I read it in the Grey book the breeder sent home with us. I found it worked well with Klaus. Our home is kind of like a testing lab because I do these things with Klaus and he LOVES me. My husband and son either don't want to, or they forget, or they think it's hogwash. At any rate, they get bit far more than I do, and Klaus "tolerates" them but doesn't love them like he loves me... Glad I could help by sharing that!
  3. Klaus is my "velcro" bird and sometimes I do wish he'd get out of my hair! But I do realize he's a baby and that at age 2 he will really start to get independent. So for now, I try to reach a fair compromise - not ignoring him, but definitely putting him down (or in his cage) when I must accomplish something and I need to be bird-free to do it! If your bird has plenty of toys that get rotated often plus something to forage, she should be fine. I know it's hard to ignore that pitiful call, though!
  4. Thank you! Thank you very much! *bowing* *courtsey* Are ya'll ready for this? As of 8:40 pm tonight I will have been smober for 2 whole weeks, shattering my previous record! Smober. Don't you love that? Ok, I'm getting obnoxious. Thanks for putting up with me!
  5. Hmmm...I put chick peas in my salad for fiber. Klaus has nosed them around, but hasn't eaten one yet. Anyone know about chick peas? aka garbanzo beans.
  6. Yeah, I actually helped somebody! That's cool... Yes, if you think about it, their eyes are kinda in the sides of their heads. So directly in front (I would think) would be their peripheral vision.
  7. Yes, noodles are one thing Klaus will always eat. I give him his own little separate dish and he gets right down to business. He'll hold a noodle in his claw while eating it. That's how I know the stuff he REALLY likes - he'll hold it in his claw so it doesn't fall...
  8. Hey, Daniel! Looks like the gang has got you well taken care of! Don't be shy - this is a very friendly group. No such thing as a dumb question - everyone is helpful and understanding. Welcome here!
  9. You can appear friendly to a grey by looking at them sideways, squinting your eyes, and lowering your head a little. Big, round eyes can be frightening.
  10. Awesome!!!! Karma for you...
  11. Klaus is complete velcro! I know what you mean! Here's what I've worked out, though. When I get home from work I don't let him out right away. I will throw in some laundry, take garbage out, whatever I know I need to do that is inconvenient with Klaus climbing on me. Then I let him out and he gets on my shoulder while I fix myself some dinner, share it with him, then do dishes (he LOVES to do dishes with me for some reason). Now he's climbing around on me, too. At 7:30 though, that's cage cleaning + dinner time. After I get the cage cleaned and dinner served I can guarantee he'll clamber in there to eat. So that's my second "break" of the evening. After dinner he may be content to play where he is, or he might want to be with me some more. Depends on both of our moods...
  12. I give Klaus the smaller toys sometimes. He has fun destroying them! LOL
  13. Klaus makes tons of cool noises, and if he heard them somewhere I don't know where. I always assume he's just trying out his voice, like babies do when they babble.
  14. Hey, it sounds like you're having a great time! Thanks for keeping us posted...
  15. Aw, I'm so sorry to hear that...
  16. Wow, we did get waaaaaay off topic there, didn't we? LOL
  17. This is so odd, because my husband and I are just the opposite. He talks about doing things and never does them. Procrastinates with the best of 'em. I am miserable if I am not productive. I like to get things done and get impatient if too much time is spent planning, or deciding what to do first if there are several tasks to accomplish. Just get the hell going I say!
  18. Here is an update: I have been smoke-free for 9 days and 48 minutes. That equals out to 181 cigarettes not smoked (holy cow!). I have saved 1 day and 9 hours of my life. And I have saved $45. This is from QuitNet.com. It keeps track of this stuff for you. Very inspiring!
  19. Wow, that was quite a barrage of psycho-babble! But seriously, my husband is paranoid. Neurotic. He creates his own stress!
  20. What a cutie! Thanks for sharing...
