  1. frwheel16 i feed plain white boiled rice, usually with a hard boiled egg crumbled in along with peas & sweetcorn, but you can add whatever takes yout fancy mine wont touch brown rice :pinch:
  2. Im sure given the opportunity in the wild Mark they would eat meat but as you say it's not a readily available source for them.I see wild birds here readily chomping on carcasses & im sure a grey would not be any different if it was in front of him,of course the exception being your grey is a vegetarian :pinch:
  3. Parrots will often hang on to a perch, the side of the cage,etc... and flap like mad.Flapping is the only way for clipped greys to get some exercise, although fully flighted greys also do it.With a clipped grey it helps to strengthen the muscles. It's like a wind tunnel when my four do it & they are all fully flighted :silly:
  4. Glad to hear noah has a good appetite, nothing to worry about which is good
  5. Hi & Welcome to the forum. We look forward to hearing more from you & your new grey,a wonderful choice of bird
  6. From all the books etc.. i have read Terri i believe their not big meat eaters in the wild they eat a variety of seeds, nuts, fruits, berries and vegetation. They eat very little fat, what they do eat is mainly from bugs and other protein sources. So i would only feed fatty meats in moderation. The chicken bone with bits of meat left on it to chew on is a big hit with many greys and the marrow is full of nutrients. My flock here all love chicken & the occasional piece of fish
  7. Thanks for updating us on Domino, good to hear he has settled in his new home.We look forward to hearing more about your new baby TAG
  8. Hi skyblues & Welcome to the forum. You do have a great mix there & congrats on the TAG.We look forward to hearing more from you
  9. Yes he does look alot cleaner im pleased to see.He is a cutie,it's great that you are visiting him on a regular basis,he will know you & recognise your voice which will be great for when you finally get to bring him home.
  10. I totally agree with Berna on this.Just by getting your grey a mate doesnt necessary mean they are going to bond with eachother,it takes times for birds to establish a relationship & there no guarantees they will. You would need to provide them with an outdoor aviary with accommodation, this would be strange for your grey if he is an indoor pet,to be thrown into this situation & personally i dont think it's fair on him.Breeding greys is a full time commitment & requires a lot of dedication.
  11. They were just regurgitating, bringing up food for eachother, they are obviously bonded to eachother,it's very very unlikely that pet greys will breed.I would if you can,let them have time out of the cage, leave the door open for them if you cant handle them, leave their food inside the cage so when their hungry they will return to eat,be patient with them,it's very early days.
  12. sorry Patrick the link is not working.I managed to get this link,is it one of these ? http://www.mybirdstore.com/A_E_CAGES-PLAY_TOP_CAGES.html
  13. Nice picture & a great looking stand there Thanks for sharing.
  14. Have they always been caged together ? Have you interacted with these two greys when they lived with your brother ? It will take them time to settle,as you said you noticed when your stood up he squarks,he may see you as a threat,he may be scared, sit down next to them, talk to them, reassure them etc..it will take time & patience to gain their trust. Can you handle either bird ? do they have time outside of the cage ?
  15. I'd love it too if i was a grey Great job.
  16. she is the cutest little buddha, thanks for sharing
  17. "The vet said that she may need to go onto the antidepressants/calmatives we talked about earlier if she keeps breaking feathers" Mas i would really weigh this decision up, personally i dont see the connection with the blood feathers, this kind of medication is more common with plucking birds, but then im not a vet Maybe someone will point out the benefits ? Thanks for updating us & im sure she forgives you

  21. Im afraid plucking in any bird can be really disheartening for the owners.Im sure you have explored the various possibilities over the years, sometimes im afraid we just have to accept the little monkeys will pluck & theres nothing you can do to stop them,it doesnt mean you have failed him or love him any less
