1. A hatch certifciate will contain details about your bird,D.O.B,ring number (if applicable ) parents details, weaning date,Breeders details etc.. It may look something like this.. A DNA certificate confirms the sex of the bird,In the UK this tends to be carried out by a company called Avian biotech. If the sex doesn't matter then yes you can purchase a bird without it. Babies will vary in price,if you purchase a parent reared bird it will be cheaper than a hand reared bird.A lot of time & effort goes in to hand rearing & socializing babies.

Post edited by: lovemyGreys, at: 2008/08/20 13:23

4. No question is stupid Greys need at least 10-12 hours unbroken sleep a night. If you are up late with the TV on then i suggest lowering the volume & using a cage cover. If you turn everything off & leave your grey to sleep then it wouldnt be necessary to cover him.you can buy cage covers online or use a dark sheet .
5. Hi BlueCounty & Welcome to the forum. You have come to the right place to gain knowledge, have a good read/look around all the different rooms we have, any questions just ask We look forward to hearing more from you.
6. At this point in time please dont clip a young grey,he needs to build up his muscles & be able to master his flying. If you do a search in the search box at the top of the page, you can read over previous threads on clipping. I have always used newspaper, baby greys tend to scratch around in the bottom of their cages so i wouldnt recommend sand or grit which could be ingested good luck with your new baby,be sure to update us
7. Greys in the wild would forage on the floor for food, but they also roost at the highest point where they feel safe. She may find the flat surface strange unded her feet.If you want her to play on the floor with you, make some foraging toys with her favourite treats in,place some toys on the floor, even sit on the floor on your own play with her toys, show her how much fun your having the temptation to join in may just get the better of her
8. Hi cflanny & Welcome to the forum. Many of our members work full time & still have happy greys.Working part time im sure will work,as long as you leave a tv or radio on & provide your grey with plenty to occupy him in his cage im sure you will soon find a routine that suits all.Regarding the dogs i wouldnt leave them in the same room as the grey for 6 hours,as much as im sure they are well behaved the temptaion to torment him may be too much for him Good for you for considering an older grey,so many new owners want to go for babies
9. Great picture Kevin & nice to hear Alfie enjoys his fruit & veggies

12. Hi Sallas,i found this article on mold & of course our birds can suffer from many of the symptoms.Keep your birds as far away from the affected area & get the leak fixed with a matter of urgency, birds are very good at covering up there symptoms until it's too late.... Can mold cause health problems? Molds are usually not a problem indoors, unless mold spores land on a wet or damp spot and begin growing. Molds have the potential to cause health problems. Molds produce allergens (substances that can cause allergic reactions), irritants, and in some cases, potentially toxic substances (mycotoxins). Inhaling or touching mold or mold spores may cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. Allergic responses include hay fever-type symptoms, such as sneezing, runny nose, red eyes, and skin rash (dermatitis). Allergic reactions to mold are common. They can be immediate or delayed. Molds can also cause asthma attacks in people with asthma who are allergic to mold. In addition, mold exposure can irritate the eyes, skin, nose, throat, and lungs of both mold-allergic and non-allergic people. Symptoms other than the allergic and irritant types are not commonly reported as a result of inhaling mold. Research on mold and health effects is ongoing. This brochure provides a brief overview; it does not describe all potential health effects related to mold exposure. For more detailed information consult a health professional. You may also wish to consult your state or local health department.
13. Take care Berna, hugs to Elmo, my thoughts are with you, stay safe.
14. Try introducing new foods in the morning, this is when our greys are at their hungriest give him a seperate bowl of fruit or veggies & leave it with him for a few hours, dont mix his seed in with it.It takes time & patience to introduce new foods, keep trying & dont give up. Here is a thread on what foods are members feed their greys,it will give you a few ideas for alternatives.. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/bird-food/24030-whats-your-greys-diet.html
15. hi Kaskoo & welcome. The easiest solution is to remove the sunflower seeds from his seed mix,set them aside & use them as treats As Siobhan suggests have a good read through the bird food room. As for bathing,he needs to get wet,if you do a search in the search box,you will be able to read over prevoius threads on the subject.
16. you should remove the pip from the middle of the date, please dont allow your grey to play with it

Yep Kiwi is fine,a big hit with my 4 greys Yes you can try serving some veggies slightly mashed & warm, they all like them different ways, some cooked, some raw,it's just a case of finding out what your grey likes, try eating some in front of your grey, sometimes their very tempted to try what we are eating
