1. I agree. The dehydrator is a good thing to have around, because you can process your own dried mixes, but you still should feed a variety of fresh fruits.

I guess it's they crunch, she doesn't like messy foods. I feel it's a good idea, because you can always keep some of the fruit on hand without having to worry about spoilage.

Post edited by: Number6, at: 2007/06/07 05:06

 4. My brother cut some persimmon branches, and I haven't seen them on any list, toxic or non-toxic. Can anyone help? My dad used them as perches when he was a breeder, but I wanted to be sure. This is a website that describes the tree, scroll down to "Persimmon, Diospyros texana" Thanks OOPS: http://www.ecoscapes.1adventure.com/trees.html

Post edited by: Number6, at: 2007/06/07 00:17
 5. I'm so proud. This morning, Gina started saying all kinds of things. The previous owner said she didn't talk, I got her less than a week ago. We've been continously talking and whistling to her, and this morning she is saying all kinds of things. She goes from mimicing birds from outside to "good girl", "what are you doing", and many others. She even has a maniacal laugh:lol:. She seems to be warming up to us quite well, even to the point where she trusts me to hold her upside down. Here's an album of her pics. http://s131.photobucket.com/albums/p302/mchl_wood/Gina/ Enjoy!
 6. FairY wrote:  Oops, Yes, no birds EXCEPT Gina:laugh: Gina's like a bottomless pit, she eats WAY more than my previous pets. I guess it's because she's a bit larger. Oh well, it's ok. It also looks like the previous owner tried to clip her wings and didn't do a very good job, she seems to pick at the feathers they trimmed, like it irritates her. I have more pics but my brother's camera takes HUGE pictures(3.5mb), I'll have to shrink them down before I upload them.
 7. I don't currently have any birds, hopefully in the near future. I used to have a Patagonian conure, but my mother couldn't care for her (while I was between houses and she had cancer), and the people caring for the bird ended up selling her behind my back. My dad has helped me out a lot choosing which breed to get and the proper care of her. She's in a very caring home now, and she will be loved. She even takes a liking to guests in the house.

The seed guard at the bottom can be removed and adds ~6" of vertical room (bottom of skirt is where the seed guard is. For a night only cage, it would be alright, but since you are buying from scratch, I'd try to find something a little bigger.
 9. Hello, I just recently adopted a 1yo (hatched last Feb.) CAG named Gina. I grew up around birds, with my dad being a breeder, but finally got my own. She is sooooo tame. She doesn't talk much yet, but since she came to us, she has already learned to mimic our whistles. Her favorite toys so far are coke lids that she can rip the inside liner out of, gatorade lids are even better. I haven't taken any pics with my camera since it is actually a camcorder and takes horrible stills, but here's some that the previous owner sent to me.
