COMING OF AGE

While I have no suns I do know that mating behavior should be discouraged. So when he does his "thing" but him back in his cage or on this play stand. He well get the pictures sooner or later. Good Luck
2. No don't cover the cage that is just a temp fix and won't help the problem. Try keeping the house quite. Stand by the cage but turn your back when he is screaming. Rewards for not screaming. Unfortunately this is something that can take a while to correct. Also keep in mind some screaming is normal but all day long is not normal. I only had one bird that would scream and she only did it every time I got on the phone so I would (couple times a day) pretend to get on the phone while standing near the cage and turn my back when she screamed in a couple months she stopped doing this. Maybe someone with more hands on experince well come along with some better ideas.

5. Ok first off take her to the vet for her well bird check up. And ask about the head. As for the noise thats what parrots do. Parrots like to greet the day. Some get really loud and happy about it. She is just now getting comfortable in her new home and is happy that is why the noise. She may start doing it in the evening too. The only suggestion is ear plugs and try to keep the house quite and maybe she well start not being so loud in time.
6. First thing to do is take her to the vet. Once you rule out any illness with a full blood work up then we can work on other possibilities.
7. I have not done this. I have heard nothing nice and I am sure it is just like with the dogs around here. No one scans for them. I thought about doing my yard dogs but I found out that very few will scan for the chip so they are pretty useless. The birds I have with bands on well keep their bands and Ill just have to make sure none get out banded or not.
8. Other then taking her to the vet so they can do a necropsy there is really no way to know. So sorry for your lose.
9. The fact that his head is down a lot is a very bad sign. Take him to the vet ASAP.
10. That is great. Let us know how the vet visit goes. And don't forget those pictures.

Post edited by: Tari, at: 2007/10/22 12:48

Perches

It never seems to matter where I put the perches for Que she still sits on the side of the bowl. lol
12. Nine weeks just seems way to young to only get two feedings a day. Maybe if you change the times? Or offer them later in the morning after he is done playing? Or maybe offer them right before he takes his nap. Mine naps almost every afternoon but I notice she usually eats right after she does. Also what temp are you feeding the formula at? Babies well refuse to eat if it not warm enough. I like to feed at 110 degrees. Have you tried spoon feeding? Some like that better. It's messy but they seem to like it better. Soft foods is good.

Post edited by: Tari, at: 2007/10/21 23:20
13. First off if you can take him back to the breeder and let them finish handfeding him. Way to many things can go wrong when you don't know what your doing. Even after 11 years of feeding babies things still go wrong with me so take him back if you can. And just visit him till he is eating on his own for a few weeks. Or if you can't take him back see if you can find someone you can pay to finish handfeding. Someone with lots of experince. Second everything you have stated is normal baby parrot things. You sound start setting acceptable behavior patterns now. You just have to keep doors close. Pick him up and return him to places he is allowed to be over and over again. Good luck.
14. When I think of appartment birds I think of Budgies or tiels. Most anything else I think would be to noisy for apartments. However an ekkie might fit the bill. A Too is out of the question.
15. Has the breeder offered you a new bird? When well you know what happened?
16. My amazon has a very over grown beak. But filing them is painful for the bird so as long as he can eat his beak is left alone. See how long it is? But he has no issues with eating so it stays.
17. They are so cute together but had to separate them one was getting hard to handle and still refuses to step up. Now they only get out time together and have to live in separate cages.
