  1. There you see how we have helped out each other, Rodney has helped Makena find a store where a new cage can be shipped to Maui. Many thanks Rodney.
  2. Hello, Rodney, and welcome to the family. Now we would not try to talk you into getting a grey, but if you did, it would be the smartest thing you have ever done. Just kidding, you are smart enough to know which is the better fit for you and your family, and that is why you are researching for information to make that decision. Well you got several things going for you, you live in Virginia Beach, I live in VA too, you got your priorities straight, and you admit you make mistakes, that almost makes you a saint, someone get this man a medal.:cheer: Glad you joined and looking forward to hearing more stories about your birds and get us some pictures if you can, we love photos.
  3. Hello, Fran, and welcome to the family, my you do have a small zoo, but I know you love it and that is all that matters. We know you are gonna love it here, think of us as your second family. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask, we will be more than willing to help in any way we can. Looking forward to hearing more about your birds, and I'm sure you have some stories to tell.
  4. Taz is a cutie, for sure, and he enjoys bacon, I have to say it is not good for him, I would keep it to an occasional treat, too much fat and salt. So he nips for attention, not sure I like that method but he sure is a looker.
  5. Harrison's High Potency pellets is what I feed my grey, it is the one brand that most avian vets recommended. It is an organic blend and she eats the fine variety.
  6. Cats usually like nothing better than to curl up in something smaller than they are, it makes them feel all cozy.

    Sticky Beaks

You got that right, whatever they are eating, you will wear.
  8. Its that woman's touch, Dan, she has a way with Dayo, but at least you are not left out. So keep your chin up and be a man about it. LOL
  9. Opps, I forgot to tell you to post a picture if you can, we love to see pictures.
  10. Dan, don't forget what we have said many times, don't spend more time with him now that you can't spend with him later, or you will regret it. But it is so hard to do that when you have a new baby in the family and you want to hug and cuddle it so much. I don't want to have to say "I told you so". LOL
  11. Thanks, Makena, that was funny, and I really enjoyed it, that little ringneck is one smart cookie. At least you have one that does not like pooping on you, most of us have ones that will let fly wherever they are and don't care what we are wearing. LOL
  12. Oh, Geoff, how cute Mirek is in those pictures, and that is a whopper of a piece of wood, I give him about 2 weeks also, and then another one will be needed. Thanks for sharing these with us, he is still a young one, he has the dark eyes yet, he is a beautiful boy.
  13. Hello, Noel, and welcome to the family, we are glad you joined and congrats on your new grey. You will find a lot of information in the threads here on this forum, why don't you read them over, a lot of what you want to know is contained within them. You just basically take care of your new grey with proper diet, a suitable cage, and plenty of toys. Spend some time each day with Tucker, teach him to step up on your command and in no time he will be bonded to you. When he learns new things, give him plenty of praise, but never punish him for doing wrong, use positive reinforcement. He should be caged when you are not at home but when you are home let him out to spend time with you and whoever else is there. He needs some social time and introduce him to guests when they are in your home. We are glad you joined the family of grey owners and soon you will enjoy what we have known for a long time, its a greyt world.
  14. Very good, zandische, for getting the answer to that question, and thanks for letting the rest of us know it is not safe for our greys to drink.
  15. So true, Lidia, they like to be out when the rest of their flock is out and about in the house, so let him out to enjoy the company. It does not mean you have to hold him or play with him just let him hang out on top of the cage or on a playstand if you have one. They seek to be with us, to feel a part of the family and the action going on around them.
  16. Well Mark, nobody said it would be easy, LOL, I am glad so many of our members are trying the potty training of their new greys. Josey will not do it on command but she does use a trash can so I will take what I can get. Very good work on the quack, quack, quack, and getting her to say that when you say "What does a duck say" to her. Gives us all inspiration to do similar things with ours, you certainly inspired me. So karma your way.
  17. I knew you were going to say that Kitty, I just knew it. You have taken everything into consideration, no stone unturned, Kitty is on the ball, you go girl.
  18. Well my hubby is not crazy over my birds like I am, but he puts up with them because he knows I would choose them over him, just kidding, I think. He seems to like Josey more now as she will at least talk to him and he enjoys that, she won't step up for him but she will take cheese from him. But you bring up some good points there, Rodney, but I think Kitty has taken that into account, she has taken everything else into consideration. I see this is your first post, why don't you introduce yourself on the welcome page and tell us somethings about yourself, what kind of bird, birds you have and so forth. We are glad you joined our family and look forward to hearing more from you.
  19. I know what you mean, seems every time you turn around they squat and let one fly, but it will lessen somewhat, Josey does not go quite as often, but they are usually bigger. LOL
  20. It started out as a sad post but it has turned into something wonderful, she may not be birdless for long. She was in a dark cloud and now the sun is shining and all is well, she sees now that things happen for a purpose and she was meant to have a baby grey and so she shall. I am so happy for her I could cry.
  21. My Josey will try the run away trick when she is on top of her cage but I come after her and she steps up. When you have to come after her don't give up, make her step up, show her who is boss. This can get into a game if you don't watch out. She needs to know you want her to step up when you ask and put your hand out in front of her and push on her belly. Also make sure she is not over your head high when you do this, and look her in the eyes. Also say step up when you try this, she needs to know what that means so she knows what to do the next time you say it. Flapping the wings is normal, Josey does that too sometimes when I pick her up, give her a few seconds and she will quit. I hope this helps, if not let us know and we will try and figure out something else, but you need to be a little firm with her, remember who is the parent and who is the child.
  22. Well cuddle while you can, they tend to get out of that real soon. Why don't you try the bullseye target for his poops, see if he can hit it dead center, now that is karma worthy.
  23. Please do post a picture if you can get one, and are you kidding, we want to know everything. I am so glad you found some and so soon, you go girl.
  24. Hello, Sandra, and welcome to the family, we are glad you joined and happy to hear you want to add a grey to your flock. We have a load of information in our threads, just look them over for lots of good info. If you have specific questions, please don't hesitate to ask, we are here to help you any way we can.
  25. When I let Josey out of her cage it is by the small top door that opens down so it cannot possibly close on her feet, she knows that is the door too and comes right to it.
