    Uh-oh

Karma for you Kristin for at least letting that friend know what she was doing was not good for her bird, too bad for the bird she probably won't change her habits, but at least you tried.
  5. Very good advice Tracy, thanks for directing Maunaolu in the right direction.B)
  6. Glad you got your samples of bird pellets, Barbara, and what a clever idea to grind them up and mix with other food to get her to eat it.
  7. The sun is shining, the sky is blue, not a cloud to be seen and the temperature is only going to be mid 70's, now what can be better than that for a weekend. 11:31 am on a Saturday morning and all is well.
  8. Way to go Joe, you tell them to go to the welcome room and I can guarantee that I will give them karma in addition to Joes. We would love to have you, the more the merrier.
  9. Radar, if you can post a photo of him hanging upside down with one foot I will give you some karma for that picture. I would love to see it.

    new contest

Yes it does and purple is my favorite color.
  11. It was just meant to be, Spikester, that bird knows you care for it and sometimes they choose you and not the other way around. I am so happy for you and I know he/she is going to make an excellent lifetime companion.
  12. Hello and welcome to the family, Inkdemon, glad you could join us and I know you are going to like it here a lot. Yes it sounds like it is going well for you and Corey and it will only get better but it does take time and lots of patience. You are doing the right thing and not rush him or push for more than he will allow. Thats great he is eating his veggies, a lot of us have trouble getting our greys to eat theirs, just continue with what you are doing and you are on your way to a lasting, loving relationship with Corey.

    Uh-oh

Kristin, I would have been shocked tot at that friend and what they were feeding their macaw, I hope you straightened them out if they want their bird to live a long life. Greys like us like a lot of things that are not good for us but a pinch once in a while is not going to hurt them, moderation is the key and it works for us too.
  14. Well I know you can take a wild animal out of the wild but they say you cannot take the wild out of the animal. I guess it is possible you could never get bitten by your grey but that is highly unlikely, and most times it does not really break the skin that much but it can and it depends on where the bite occurs. Certainly they could put an eye out or take a chunk out of your lip. Greys, male or female, can and do change their favorite sometimes and especially when they reach maturity.
  15. Did you ever doubt it would, if you want it then it will happen. Cage size is very good, lots of room to move around in. We do have some threads here that already address the issue of what to do when bringing him home, so I won't repeat that, you should read thru a lot of the threads here for lots of good information. Be slow and careful in introducing the dog to the grey, and never allow them out together in the same room until they are comfortable with each other and never, ever leave them alone when the grey is out.
  16. Hello Spikester, congrats on your new grey. The only way to determine sex is by doing a DNA test on a sample of blood. As far as the other thing, be glad he/she wants your attention, just don't spend more time with it now that you cannot keep up in the future, they get used to it and it could cause behavior problems if you can't keep it up. It seems you have struck it lucky to have a grey that accepts you right off the bat so to speak, most of us have to work some to get that level of affection. Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little more about your grey, name, how old it is and how long you have had it so far. Then we will go from there.
  17. If he is doing this at night or before he goes to sleep or take a nap it is just something they do, it is a sign of contentment and they all do it. It might have something to do with keeping the beak, especially the lower one in good condition.
  18. Good job to all who entered the contest and congrats to the winners, all were excellent pictures, but the one I voted for won, what can I say, I have a soft spot for hummingbirds and Mark takes an outstanding photo.
  19. Sorry for the lapse, I did leave out part of the requirements of entering the contest and so I am correcting that now. Josey's Pizza Surprise It has a baked pizza crust, the sauce is sweet potato baby food, toppings are sliced banana peppers, carrot curls, a little cheddar cheese and a srinkling of taco flavored rice. She looked at it like I'm not eating that, she wanted what was on my plate. But then she finally ate a little of it, not my best effort to say the least.

  21. Well depending on the size of the playstand you might try them together and see how it goes, but never leave their side when you do this, just because in most cases it doesn't work out, yours could be the exception. But never, ever leave them together on it without someone being right there for the grey could tear off the quaker's beak.
  22. Hello and welcome to the family, Jacqui, glad you could join us and welcome to Colin, your new baby. I agree, greys are the most adorable creatures and especially when they are babies. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask us anything, we will do our best to get you an answer and help you in any way we can. Browse thru the different threads on this site for lots of useful information and ideas. If you have a picture of Colin you would like to post please do, we love to admire each other's greys, and especially the babies with their still dark eyes.
  23. I don't think it is a good idea to put them on the same playstand unless you are right there to keep them separated. Greys don't usually get along with any other birds and the grey being bigger could do some real damage to the quaker. She has been brought up with the other birds at the breeders and that is ok but your quaker will be a different bird alltogether so I would not advise it.
  24. They are fine now but earlier today they were huge.
  25. Josey calls with more of a peep, peep and I do answer her, she just wants to know where I am. This evening she was on her playtop on the side of her cage and was scratching and digging on the side and what she wanted was for me to get her and put her on her mobile playstand that was nearer to me.
