  1. Whichever comes first, hey thats a great idea, maybe next year we could do just that, make a day of it, some shopping, gossiping, some eating, more gossiping, take in a movie, more gossiping and maybe some more gossiping in between the gossiping, whatcha think!!!!!!
  2. No she won't start plucking feathers but they should bathe from time to time so if you can manage to find some way for her to get wet occasionally it would be helpful especially if she is going thru a molt.
  3. You calling me crazy, woman, I have fun doing that, I go with my daughter and I think her girlfriend is coming along too, we have lots of fun just sharing each other's company.
  4. Yes please be careful with that method, Mark, it can be dangerous if you don't heed the precautions, but I hear the turkey is delicious cooked that way, have never tried it but be sure to let us know how it turns out.
  5. Well I am still plugging away at my new behavior modification lifestyle and it is not easy sometimes but I have a goal in mind and I will not waver until I reach that goal, I am a determined woman on a mission and I will have my just "desserts" (only a few know just what I am talking about) :P B) :P
  6. Josey tries to bathe in her water dish but does not accomplish much, I take her into the bathtub and give her an aloe juice spray bath, she does not care much for it but it seems to help.
  7. I am going to my daughters for Thanksgiving, she is doing the turkey and I will contribute some side dishes. I don't watch football games, I will probably scour the newspaper for early morning bargains for shopping on Black Friday, last year some stores opened at 5 am. I love a 4-day weekend too.
  8. That he does and he does it well, and I did not realize how funny he thought we were until Valerie joined and said she would watch him at his computer laughing his head off with tears streaming down his cheeks from laughing so hard. We do like to have a good time and Joe is an instigator of mischief for sure. I know I always look for his name on the right when I log on for we always exchange a few comments for laughs.
  9. Thank goodness it was a nutritious snack, but never underestimate the power of an african grey beak, they will get into whatever they want to so watch out.
  10. Thats always an exciting time when you bring a new baby home and I know you can't wait, and I look forward to seeing the pictures you want to share with us.

    Green beans

Thats too bad for you especially if you like oranges, I am looking forward to the red navel oranges that we order each year from a club at the local high school, they are the best oranges you ever put your mouth on.
  12. I don't know about scratching my head but you are welcome to make me laugh any time, I bet you are a chip off the old block and the apple does not fall far from the tree as you say. So go ahead and give it your best shot. {Characters-0002005E}

    Green beans

Grapes are ok, but don't overdo them, they don't have much to offer nutritionally, offer sweet potatoes, carrots, greens, broccoli, peppers, squash, just to name a few.
  14. Ask and ye shall receive, I see you posted a photo while I was writing a response to your first post, she is beautiful, but then I haven't seen any ugly ones yet, thanks for sharing that with us. To tell you the truth, she looks older than 9 months, the eyes have that much lighter color to them, are you sure of her age?
  15. Hello and welcome to the family, Chris, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Harriet. I'm sure she is an awesome grey, they all are in my opinion, very beautiful creatures. A grey is not the ideal first bird but now that you have her you know that she is different from other types of birds. I would recommend that you get a copy of the book "For the Love of Greys" by Bobbi Brinker, it is full of helpful information. Please read thru our many threads on various topics for lots of useful information on all aspects of caring for this awesome creature. We will do our best to answer any questions you may have and you already have asked a few and we will help you in any way we can. I'm sure as time goes by there will be more of these memorex moments, they are masters of mimicry and you will be amazed at what they can copy and she will probably start talking soon if not already. If you have some pictures of Harriet that you would like to share with us please do, we would love to see her. As for the stepping up, we have a few threads that deal with that, please just do a search and find and read them, they may help you find a solution.
  16. Sometimes a name is suitable from how it acts and not just from looks alone, so maybe something about her personality will bring a name to mind.
  17. Hello, Rhe, congrats on the impending arrival of your new grey and if it is only 6 weeks old then you must be going to continue to hand feed it, am I right? Probably at that age it should stay in some kind of box or other container without any perches and with some kind of soft bedding. When it is older and starting to perch then you can move it to a cage. You need to talk to the breeder to find out what you should be doing, and if you have never done this before I would caution you on doing it yourself anyway, this is something for people who know what they are doing, you could kill it if you don't know what to do. Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us some more about yourself and this new grey, then we will be better prepared to answer your questions.
  18. Darlene, you certainly have had your troubles with getting an african grey, and my heart goes out to you, but hang in there, I am sure there is one for you that is healthy and ready to love you, you just have to keep at it. Please keep us informed of this situation.
  19. Jamie, I am not sure about the gas log fireplace since I don't have one, but the outdoor fireplace poses no danger.
  20. My sun conure does more of the going over me with her tongue than my grey does, and it feels funny but good but I have to watch her for she tries to get inside my mouth, I have to firmly keep my lips tight so she does not worm her way in, its so funny.
  21. She is just checking you out, she is tasting you with her tongue, and its normal for them to beak you but if it is more like a bite then you will have to put a stop to it, you don't want her thinking it is ok to do that.
  22. Hello and welcome to the family, Will, glad you joined us. You say you want to breed greys, how many do you have and are they pets now or what? Several members here have previously bred greys so they may chime in with some advice and I believe we have a thread that deals with breeding them if you want to look for it and read it. Most of the members here have greys as pets and most will say you cannot breed pet greys, and I don't know what your situation is but hopefully we can assist you in some way or at least give you some guidance as to where to go. Why don't you tell us a little more about yourself, how many greys you have, how old are they, their names and such, so we will get to know you a little better.
  23. Thanks Mario for the kind words, we feel like a family here and as such we treat all members as we would like to be treated, that is what sets us apart from the others. We are just one big happy family. I will admit that you being Joe's son didn't hurt your chances of being openly welcomed but thats just the way we are. Besides you already hold a special place in our family by reason of birthright, Joe is a valued member, a special member of this family, and any offspring of his is especially welcomed for we know that Joe is about the best of the best you will find. He tells it like it is, he is honest and forthright and the women love him, he is a big flirt and sometimes a dirty old man, but I am honored to call him my friend, a very good friend.
  24. Connie, $12,000 to $15,000, is about the norm here for hyacinth macaws, too pricey for me, I will stick with a grey.
  25. Well you certainly came to the right place to find other bird lovers, we are a unique group of people, that other non bird people just do not understand, but that is ok with us. You will find a lot of information in our many threads, just read thru them at your leisure and you will find lots of tips.
