Pre-programmed, now why don't they all come like that!!!!! I can't wait to hear more about the adventures of Sam.
-
I have heard that also, Tracy, about feeding raw potatoes, so Josey always has them cooked first, I didn't know why but like you I like to err on the side of caution.
-
Awww come on Laurie, you can clean house later, you gotta get the hang of posting photos so we can see Klaus.
-
Another online store I have ordered from is www.avianlove.com

Well I know that we are to avoid giving them anything with added sugar in it and that would include Kool-Aid. They get enough natural sugar that is found in foods but mainly fruits. I would discourage him from having more than just a sip now and then, certainly not an everyday indulgence. I see this is your first post, why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little about yourself and your grey.

As we approach yet another New Year, 2008, we all think of what are we going to do different this new year and I am no exception. For a lot of people it will be trying that new diet or starting a regimen of weight loss and exercise. Well I have already started that months ago so I have a new one to try this coming year. I vow to be the best friend I can be to the people I call my best friends as I have not always been there when they needed me and I have been lax in keeping in touch like I should. I feel so ashamed of myself for not putting them first ahead of my own feelings and I promise to do better in the coming year and forever after. True friends are precious gems that need to be cared for and loved and I will do my best to make sure those friends know that I love and cherish them as they so richly deserve. Now what are your New Year's resolutions?

I've had a few people in my house from time to time but none of them were the type that wanted to hold Josey or do anything with her but look at her but they did ask questions and I told them she could possibly bite and good and hard too.
-
I notice Josey listens to it whenever I play someone's video they have shared with us on this forum, she knows when she hears similar sounding birds. Thanks Dan for sharing a few moments of Dayo with us.
-
Lets hope so Tracy, I know I love you all for the suggestions and wonderful ideas.B)

Good for you Laurie, I love it there too and can't wait to get back. I lost 3 lbs the first month then 7 lbs the second month and also over 10 inches in those two months, but I am afraid the next weigh in will not net me as much but I am not quitting, I have a goal and nothing can stop me now.

Well its Wednesday again and I haven't been so good the last few days, but hey it's Christmas and I have eaten too much the last couple of days and haven't been to Curves for almost a week now. Curves is a half hour drive from home so I usually go right after work since I am only 5 minutes away. But I am back on track tomorrow with the lifestyle change and the holiday food is behind me now, of course that is figuratively speaking as in it is really in my behind now. LOL

Thanks Dan for sharing that with us, Dayo is trying to make some words it seems like but there is no mistaking the screams in the background, conures, you gotta love them.

Oh Mike, we have heard similar stories before as you can imagine, of others who thought they couldn't fly far or high. But it does happen and when they get spooked it amazes people how high and far they can go. I am glad it has a happy ending for I can't say that all have been but now you know better than to go outside with your bird unless it is on a harness and leash or in a cage. It is devastating to lose a pet and to lose one that way is especially hard when you don't know whether it is alive or dead. I think your breeder gave you some excellent advice, just watch for any signs of distress, discharge or anything out of the ordinary. You are truly blessed to have him back home safe and sound, and I can imagine it won't happen again for sure. I look forward to seeing pictures of Ned. Thanks for sharing this hair raising story with us, you don't know how much you may have helped in preventing someone else from making the same mistake and maybe not being so lucky as you to have him back.
-
Terri, I am glad you found a good vet, not all of us are as lucky to have one that is so good with our parrots, and the right one does make a difference. Jiggy sounds like a character for sure, Terri, and that is really funny about the blueberries, I love hearing these stories of yours, you keep us entertained with the antics of Jiggy and Bella.

These are some real good foraging ideas and I need to employ some of these to Josey's cage for a little more entertainment with her meals. Thanks a bunch, Christina, Deby, Tracy, Hannah, Laurie and Reta for the wonderful ideas, keep em coming.

Hello and welcome to the family, Mike, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Ned. I know you are going to love it here just like the rest of us do. So you have had Ned for close to a year now, I imagine he is a delight to have, I know mine is an amazing creature that I wonder how it took me so long to get one. I am curious about this hair raising experience you had recently and I look forward to hearing all about it when you post it. Since you have had him for awhile you probably already know all you need to know but read thru the many threads for lots of useful information, we all here are learning something new every day it seems so you never know what you may find out. If you have a picture of Ned you would like to share with us we would love to see him.

danmcq wrote: My sentiments exactly, Dan, if they are ignorant of parrots then they better stand back when I have Josey out, she comes first.:cheer:

Thats funny Heather, for "what" was one of the first words that Josey said and still says often for me, thanks for sharing that with us Heather. I think Josey is trying to imitate the laugh of SpongeBob Squarepants, she has been doing these funny noises and it is similar to that laugh and my grandkids have been here and have had the TV on that program, LOL, she is so funny sounding, I get a kick out of it everytime I hear it.
-
Thanks for sharing that story with us, Sandra, and I have seen this in Josey myself, she does imitations of sneezing, coughing and such other sounds she hears, in fact right now she does an imitation that is like an owl call, I don't know where she picked that up. But they certainly can keep us entertained.

Hello and welcome to the family, Jenny, glad you and Steven could join us and I know you are going to like it here just like we do. Congrats on taking in a rehomed grey, I commend you on taking on an older bird, that is not an easy task sometimes but with your husband's love and attention Smokey should thrive. Dan has already given you some excellent advice, a new cage in the central hub of your home is the best place for her, she needs to be around the family and be included in everyday activities. Please read thru the many threads on various topics for lots of useful information that will answer some of your questions, and we will help you in any way we can. You have done the right thing in finding out all you can about greys for they are different from other parrots but are so rewarding in so many ways that I am sure you will be finding out soon enough. If you have any pictures of Smokey that you would like to share with us we would love to see her, if you won't have any until after you bring her home that is fine, just post when you can. Welcome to the fine family of grey owners, you have chosen an awesome creature and won't be disappointed, I promise.
