  1. Thanks Chris for sharing a picture of Alex with us, he is a handsome hunk and Alex is good looking also.:woohoo:
  2. Don't worry about posting in the wrong section, one of the admins can move it. Duke University is my favorite college for basketball, I love watching them play, I especially loved it when Grant Hill was there. If Duke goes crazy with excitement when you do come home then he is bonded with you and knows you love him and that is great that the rest of your family loves him too. I believe when you are able to have him with you all the time he will be one happy little grey.
  3. Yes I do too Tracy and wish it were everywhere because they are headed for extinction if the practice is not stopped soon.
  4. Hello and welcome to the family, Chris, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Alex. I know you are going to love it here just like we do. Yes these greys are masters of learning how to get what they want and our wanting to please and enjoy them only helps that along, but you gotta love the little guys, they are so adorable. Please read thru the many threads on various topics for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask specific questions if you have any, we will do our best to get you an answer and help you in any way we can. If you have a picture of Alex you would like to share with us we would love to see him.B)
  5. Well it will happen for me in 2008 for sure.
  6. Thats a nice compliment Mike, I appreciate that as do all the members here. We have tried to create a warm and loving family atmosphere here where anyone can join and get advice, opinions and helpful information about their greys and their problems with them or just to hang out and have fun chatting with one another and generally having a good time.B)

Laurie wrote: Laurie, watch out for that brick LOL:laugh:   I agree that if a member feels the need to leave and it is a problem with another member or members they should pm an admin or one of the mods and discuss it first. But there can be a million reasons why someone feels compelled to not be a part of this family any longer and sometimes it has nothing to do with the forum itself, it is just a personal matter. In my opinion if the reason is personal and not concerning the forum itself then no explanation is required or expected, a member could just not post or log on any longer, why bother with a goodbye post. I'd say the majority of the members who are not active anymore did just that.
  8. I'm more with you Reta, I don't like giving Josey tastes of "junk food" either and since I am not eating those types of foods now it is easier to do.
  9. Lucky needs some time out of the cage without the puppy in the room so you can have some one on one time and when the puppy is in the room do things for the grey first so he knows he is still first.
  10. Yeah, I remember when Jimmy was complaining that Cosmo didn't want to come out of the cage and now he is complaining that Cosmo won't go back into the cage, is there no pleasing Jimmy, LOL, I'm just poking fun at ya Jimmy:laugh: I don't have a problem with Josey, I just put her in when it is time and she is no problem, but just wait, now that I have bragged on her things will be different.
  11. Two weeks is not enough time for him to be settled into his new home especially since he is 5 years old, it takes longer for an adult bird. I would allow some out of the cage time every day also, maybe he could perch on some kind of stand so he is nearby. I would ignore the nibbles/bites or tell him no and turn your back on him, they don't like to be ignored and soon he should do it less and less. Of course he is testing you too to see if you are afraid of him. I take it you have not named this grey yet since you are referring to it by "G", thats ok, maybe something about its personality will help you decide on a suitable name. Since this is your first post why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little more about yourself and "G".
  12. I would ignore it, I know that is hard to do, but in time he will tire of it and heopefully stop it.
  13. I look forward to it Brian, we want to know a little more about you and Millie.
  14. Thanks Dan for putting these links in a thread for us, I read with curiosity but am appalled and sickened by the methods of capture of these wild african greys. How people can treat these magnificent creatures in such a way and a lot of them die before they ever see any such freedom again. I pray that this will be stopped, my heart breaks looking at the photos.
  15. Then if you are glad then I am too, I go right after work, for I don't take a lunch break, I work right thru it and eat my lunch as I can while still working, but that works for me.
  16. Well I didn't join a gym but I did join Curves and love it and will continue on throughout the year 2008 and on and on and on and, well you get the picture. Laurie, we will just have to keep each other going, huh!!!!!
  17. Well good for you Dan, just goes to show what a little ingenuity can do to help Dayo eat those pellets. Thanks for sharing that little tip with us, it may help someone else with the same problem.
  18. I would too if we had a local parrot shop in my area but we don't, we only have pet stores that have a limited supply of bird items, so I am forced to buy mostly online.
  19. Wow a nice shower but oh no a bruise, did she bite you, Connie, or was it just a struggle getting her into and out of the shower? But she looks magnificent after she is all dry and pretty.
  20. Try giving him a little cooked oatmeal with some baby food vegetables in it, I spoon feed Josey that every morning and she loves it. That way you are getting at least a little veggies in him. Offer the veggies raw, cooked, shredded, mashed, cubed, sliced and whatever form you can think of, maybe he will like them one way over another.
  21. Thanks Jimmy for sharing some pictures of you and Cosmo, what a ham and Cosmo is too. Glad to hear the shower incident ended on a happy note and like Dan mentioned, good thing he didn't grab for something to hold on to on his way down, if you catch my drift.:woohoo: What little bit of chocolate residue on your fingers is of no concern but more would have been disasterous.
  22. Well congrats on the new arrangement, seems Brody has really taken a good liking to you, and you should be excited, I would be too, heck I am excited for you. If he likes sleeping in one of those little huts then by all means allow him to do that, it probably makes him feel more secure. I would be a little cautious of letting him sleep in the bed with you, what if you rolled over on him during the night, I don't think it is worth the risk. Enjoy your little Brody and the cuddling for the cuddling might not last.:cheer:
  23. Hello and welcome to the family, Ian, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Duke. I know you are going to love it here just like we do. So Duke is 6 years old and you have had him since he was a couple of months old so he is already reached sexual maturity then hasn't he? You could probably give us some insight into this phase of grey ownership as a lot of us have younger greys, mine is 19 months old now. Please read thru the many threads on various topics for lots of useful information and if you have specific questions you would like to ask feel free to do so. We will do our best to get you an answer and help you in any way we can. If you have any pictures of Duke you would like to share with us we would love to see him. You don't happen to be going to Duke in North Carolina do you, I thought of them when I saw your screen name, I know they are called the Blue Devils.

Thanks Hannah for that lesson for the day, I had an idea that was what it was but you explain it so much better than I ever could.
  25. My how time flies and you are going to realize that more and more as you get older, take my word for it.
