Thats great news, Lily, see we told you they would grow back quick, soon they will be long and pretty.
-
He does need a nail clipping if he is scratching you up, get some rough perches to put in his cage, they help to keep the talons from being so sharp.
-
Tasha he will be fine as long as he has plenty of toys to occupy his time, I leave the radio on for Josey too. So stop worrying or he will pick up on that.

Hello and welcome to the family, Rick, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Scarlet, what a wonderful name for a grey. I see from your avatar that you are holding some type of musical instrument, what is it and do you play it in some type of band or musical group? Just what are cedar nuts, I haven't heard about them, you will have to tell us a little about them, how about it Rick!! Please read thru as many of the threads as you like for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask specific questions you may have. We will do our best to answer and help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of Scarlet you would like to share with us we would love to see her.

We like to think we have the best grey forum on the internet and I don't think you will find any friendlier members or ones more willing to help someone than right here. If you haven't already please read thru the many threads on various topics for lots of useful information. We do our best to get answers and help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of your grey you would like to share with us we would love to see it.

Well I guess we can conclude that she is indeed a female if she laid an egg and I would assume she will lay more, they usually do. We have several threads concerning egg laying you just need to do a forum search to find them and there are several links at the top of this thread about egg laying, so advice is close at hand.

You need to find out what your grey likes the best and save that for treats and yes it should be a small something. But a lot of birds love the nutra-berries and maybe a nut of some sort. You will find out shortly after you bring her home what she likes.
-
That is unusual for her to love being on the floor, for most of them do not like being there. Josey will not go there intentionly but if she happens there she kind of waits for someone to come and get her up. This seems a little farfetched to believe that her plucking is caused by that but who am I to say, I am no expert by any means. Maybe you can set aside some time every day and play with her in the floor so she has some time there and see if that helps.
-
Sounds good Hannah, now the day she comes you stock up on those fresh veggies and fruits to give her. You can also stock up on whole grains, legumes and such from that organic food coop, use some of them for sprouting.
-
I know you can hardly wait but it is almost here and then we will hear all the stories of your new adventure.

Hello and welcome to the family, Lyric, glad you could finally join us after lurking for awhile. Even though you do not have to join to read thru the threads I think you will find that you can contribute a lot to this forum. With your experience with birds we can always use another brain to pick knowledge from and you are welcome to join in the fun. How nice that your pair of Tags produced a baby, and now that baby is the joy of your life. Were these two Tags kept as pets the whole time or where they part of the breeding stock? I am just curious because it seems they need special conditions for them to breed. Since you have already read a lot of the threads I won't have to direct you there but if you need specific information just do a forum search with the words you are looking for and you will find lots of answers. If you have any pictures of Lyric you would like to share with us we would love to see him.

Hello Mike, wow you were able to get a good deal on a grey being in their native territory but you can get a lot of the things they need from regular stores. You should be able to get some red palm nuts, most greys like chewing and eating these and that is what the ones in the wild are eating. Offer plenty of vegetables especially the leafy green and dark yellow ones, some fruits, whole grains, seeds and legumes. If you feed your grey a healthy balanced diet there will be no need for supplements. They love to eat a lot of what we eat but there are some things they should not have and we have some threads here on that very subject, just do a forum search and you will find them. You can do the same for toy ideas, we have threads that have homemade toys, foraging toys and such that are made from normal household products. Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little more about you and this grey you got for $5!!!

Some people work their mouths faster than their brain can process information so you just have to excuse those types of people because the world is full of them.

Thats so funny to have a bird and not name it, what do you call it then, "bird", you have to call it something, why don't you give it a name, Dareuk.
-
Thats an excellent idea, BMustee, for with those kind of traps it would be the most helpful information you will need. Ak1, why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little about you and your grey.

These are all good stories and it shows how amazing these creatures really are, keep em coming!!!
-
Mine is too, she was the first parrot I have owned, then I got my grey, and she is rotten to the core but such a delight to have and a clown at that!!!

Thanks so much, Lisa, for the update on Brody, he is a cutie from the pictures you posted. Enjoy your little snuggle bunny for he may grow out of that, some do and some don't, maybe you will have one that won't, but they usually get more independent as they get a little older. Sounds like he is on a good diet and for now he will be making all kinds of sounds and mumbling but soon you will start hearing words and then phrases. Yes you are in for quite a ride, Lisa, but you will enjoy every minute of it I'm sure.
-
Thanks for sharing that with us, glad you found a few minutes to pop in and hope you find some more time in the future to participate in the forum more.B) Do you have a dog, it sounded like he/she was mimicing a dog bark!!!!!

Hello and welcome to the family, Woody, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about your two greys. First thing I would suggest is you take your female in to see an avian vet for a complete workup to rule out a physical problem. Now there have been some changes happening like the cage being moved and now your grandmother has moved out, could she have been attached to her and is responding to her absence by plucking. Maybe some of the other members will have some more suggestions for you. Please read thru the many threads on various topics for lots of useful information, including ones on plucking feathers. You can do a search forum with the words plucking feathers and lots of threads should come up. Do not hesitate to ask us specific questions you may have and we will do our best to get an answer for you and help you in any way we can. If you have any pictures of your two greys you would like to share with us we would love to see them. BTW, what are their names?
-
Rachel if you are afraid of being bitten then maybe you will need to rethink your decision to get a grey because you will get bitten at one time or another, just ask anyone here. I have been nipped but not truly bitten YET but I know my time is coming as my grey is only 20 months old. If you show fear when you handle your grey he/she will pick up on that and the bites could be worse. You need to be sure of yourself so that confidence shows when you handle it and you will be fine.

Hello and welcome to the family, Marlene, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Gus. Lovemygreys has given you an excellent link on hand feeding and it should help you in your quest to get Gus a little closer to weaning. At 18 weeks he probably should not be getting 3 feeds a day, he should be eating some solid foods like veggies, pellets and such. Please read thru the many threads on various topics for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask specific questions, we do our best to get an answer and help you in any way we can. If you have any pictures of Gus you would like to share with us we would love to see him.

Grey is beautiful, not a bright color but beautiful in their own right, they were meant to be that way, I see nothing dull about their color. Greys are notorious for being scared of new things or change so new toys are to be introduced gradually. We have been round and round with the wing clipping subject and in your case it may be necessary due to the fact that you leave windows open and ceiling fans running but it is your choice to make.

My sun conure has never lost all her tail feathers at the same time, usually just a couple then later maybe a couple more. If you are concerned about it then take her in for a vet visit but like the others said they grow back in quickly. Don't you just love your little sun, I love mine.
