  1. Hello Goliath and welcome to the family, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Echo, what a nice name for a grey. Echo still has plenty of time to learn to talk and it sounds like he might be a closet talker, doesn't want to talk if you are in the room, some are like that. Now my Josey will talk with us in the room and even answer you when you talk to her. Most of us usually try to bathe or mist our greys about twice a week, some like the shower and some will tolerate a misting and a lot of us use the aloe vera juice when misting them, it makes the feathers softer and is soothing for the skin. I don't know about a play group for birds, if you want another bird for him to interact with then get another one yourself, but as far as being with other parrots there is always the chance of transmitting a disease among other birds in close proximity. Your technique may be just fine, he may just not like being handled and petted, some allow a lot and some are kind of hands off so respect his wishes and maybe in time he will allow more touching. Please read thru the many threads on various topics for lots of useful information and ask questions if you have any, we do our best to get some answers and help you in any way we can. If you have any pictures of Echo you would like to share with us we would love to see him.
  2. Very nice photos, Ian, thanks for sharing these with us.
  3. This is the photography room and photos belong here and they do not have to be of greys, I love them and I guess you are going to draw these on black paper, I want to see the finished product, they should be beautiful like the subject. Thanks for sharing them with us.
  4. Those feather will grow back, you have not done any damage and have been given good advice by BMustee, she works in a pet store and knows her birds.
  5. Rocco has probably chosen you as his favorite and there is not much you can do about that, but let your wife be the one to give him treats and have her talk to him so that he will come to be more accepting of her. But he has just come into your life so give him some time, when you work with greys you have to have plenty of time and patience, you can't rush it.
  6. Hello Pegasus and welcome to the family, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Rocco. To answer the question about cage location, its best to put it in the room where the family spends most of their time and one side of the cage should be against a wall for some sense of security. He seems to be very tame and is accepting of your affections so soon after bringing him home, it seems as if your wife may become the favorite one. Please read thru the many threads on various topics for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask specific questions you may have. We do our best to get you some answers and help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of Rocco you would like to share with us we would love to see him.
  7. Oh yeah Christoph, Josey discovered mine a long time ago but I have more trouble with my sun conure not leaving my ears alone than I do with Josey.
  8. Karla, I am glad it turned out well for you traveling with Tequila and now if you have to go again he will be fine with it. Thanks for updating us.
  9. Ronda should be getting more snow that what she has got so far, WV usually gets more than we do down here in VA, but those are pretty snow scenes, I just love it when it coats all the trees like that. Thanks for sharing the pictures with us Ronda.
  10. Josey sleeps on the highest part of her boing that hangs in the center of her cage but Sunny the conure sleeps in her tent that is low in the cage, to each their own.
  11. Thanks for sharing some pictures of Sweetheart, she is a lovely looking Tag, I guess we will be seeing a lot more of her now that you have a camera. Josey has that indestructibell that you mention Tracey and she loves to bang that thing around in her cage, she truly cannot tear it up.
  12. Ronda, Dave is still there, now he is Dave007, he changed his screen name from Mrspock to Dave007, but he has not logged in as often as he used to, he participates in other forums.
  13. Thanks Lisa for mentioning that, I am going to check them out, Josey needs something like that, karma your way:P
  14. Kind of like us women, we get moody and sometimes can be real b.....s, but it will pass or maybe not:evil:

I mostly buy the boneless chicken so I don't have the chicken bones to give her but I will give it a try soon.
  16. Well whatever makes him happy and if there are no ill side effects of this weird habit of his then all is good. Thanks for letting us know about him and please do join in, like Talon said you don't have to have a problem to post here.
  17. Thats one way to get them to eat something, just like kids, let them see you eating something and they want it just because you have it, good tip ChickenDog!!!
  18. I am so sorry for the loss of your bird, AAA, and you are right, it doesn't take long to get very attached to them. I agree this bird was doomed from the start, it never really had a chance and the breeder that sold it to you should be ashamed of himself for selling it to you like this. Yes please stay with us and participate in this forum, you will learn so much and be better prepared for the day when or if you decide to get another bird. Just don't get it from the same one you got the this one from. We all learn from our mistakes and I don't blame you for this, your baby was already sick and dying when you got it, but at least it knew you loved and cared for it and you may decide to share that love with another one day. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers for help in dealing with your loss of this little one.
  19. Steph, were these pictures taken outside or in front of a window? I ask because Goober does not have on a harness if he is outside, but good pictures, thanks for sharing them with us.
  20. Well there won't be but one way to find out, put a treat in it and put it in the cage and see what happens, it might surprise you what their beaks can do.
  21. You can put anything they enjoy eating, maybe some dried fruit or other treat besides the Nutriberries or nuts.
  22. I'm sure a lot of us will and a must read for new owners.
  23. That sounds like the best idea Mike, but she is a good looking grey who gets excited over paper towels.
  24. Thanks Tracy for posting that link, you are such a doll. B)

Mine enjoys meat too, she has had chicken, turkey, goose, pheasant, deer, beef, bear, doves and pork and enjoyed them all, but I limit the amount I allow her to have. I think one of the other members suggested giving them a bone to chew on for they love the marrow in the middle but I have yet to try this with Josey. I find that she will forego the veggies in favor of the meat unless I have some kind of rice or pasta on my plate, she goes bonkers for that.
