  1. You are most welcome Jill.

  2. This is what I like to hear, that the grey baby has been found safe and sound except for being a little hungry and thirsty but that is being remedied right now, thanks so much for letting us know and now I am having a big sigh of relief.
  3. There is no need for name calling and to keep this from escalating any further I am locking this thread.
  4. I can't comment on the growl but to get good bacteria back into his system take Jay's advice of giving a little yogurt to him, its good for us also.
  5. Baby greys are usually more accepting of the travel cage or new things than when they get a little older so keep that in mind when Loki comes home and settles into his new home but he looks so sweet there in the cage, keep it a positive experience so he doesn't mind the travel cage as it will come in handy for vet trips or other outings.
  6. Well hello Oscar, you are a mighty good looking Cag, thanks for sharing it with us.
  7. Hello Checkthebarn and welcome to our family. It sounds like you are going to do fine, its not like you don't have any experience with birds having had some before but a grey is different from others and your life is about to change forever but in a good way. You have already been reading thru the threads so you know some of what to expect and we are here for you if you have any questions so relax and enjoy his homecoming. Loki is adorable, thanks for sharing a picture of him.
  8. Greys are notorious for disliking any kind of change and when you moved the cage back to the former location he was fine with that but what you might want to do if you eventually want him closer to the window is move it an inch or two each day, not enough to make a big difference and see what happens.
  9. Hello Bms and welcome to our family. Yes you can use a perch or stick to have him step up on it, some of the members here do exactly that at times with their grey. I know how disappointed you are since you were the one that wanted the bird and the bird likes males and not females but time and lots of patience will help to form a good relationship with him, maybe not as good as with the males of the family but something you can live with.
  10. Thanks Dave for the trip down memory lane.
  11. Magnifico if there is such a word, didn't know such birds existed, thanks for sharing that with us.
  12. I am so sorry for your loss of Lorka and yes many birds get this disease and not much can be done for them, I know another bird would not take Lorka's place but you do seem to have a strong love for these awesome creatures, maybe one day when the hurt is less tender as it is right now you can think about bringing another one into your life and your heart. Birds should be seen by an avian vet as soon as they show the slightest signs of sickness for birds are notorious for hiding illness until they can no longer do so, maybe if it was caught much sooner she might be there with you right now but I know those kinds of vets might be in short supply where you live. I do give my grey peanuts in the shell but they are the roasted unsalted ones meant for human consumption, I throw away the ones that come in seed mixes for that very reason of the fungus you speak about. Again I am so sorry for your loss but know that she was happy in the short life she shared with you and your family and remember those memories.
  13. Good things come to those who wait and Bongo sure took his time, bet you are grinning from ear to ear.
  14. I have to agree with Dan, I am against wing clipping unless it is absolutely necessary but this is one of those cases, Oscar would be more apt to fly into something and harm himself, maybe a light clip to keep him from gaining any height but able to glide down and not fall like a rock.
  15. Bummer what happened to your car but count yourself lucky for I saw a picture yesterday where a roof caved in on a house, the husband was outside shoveling snow and his wife was inside but she made it out safely, I got my fingers crossed that you keep your power on and hope the ones who still don't have power get it back quickly.
  16. OMG Dave, I laughed until tears were running down my cheeks, my facial cheeks that is!
  17. Its always scary when the power goes out and its cold and windy but I am lucky to have 2 wood burning fireplaces and a wood burning stove that can heat the entire house, I have used the fireplace in the family room where the birds are and been able to keep the temperature above 70, I love sitting by a fire when it is cold outside especially when its bad weather, nothing like the crackling of the wood burning and the warmth of the light it gives off. Everyone should have an emergency kit with necessary things for times when the power is out in cold weather for you just never know.
  18. She does sound horrid and don't worry as she will get what is coming to her one day.
  19. Taffy with those two girls are hilarious, what a ham.
  20. If you have the time to take then by all means do so, they are only babies for a short while and it will be time well spent but she will get used to your schedule with a little time, be sure to leave the tv or a radio on for background noise especially if you do not have any other birds to keep her company.
  21. I have to say that is a really nice outdoor aviary Murf, in fact the whole place looks really nice and serene, bet you love spending time out there with your fids, looks very relaxing.
  22. Congrats on your baby boy, now the name is............................................................?
  23. What a sweetheart Alfie is, such a pretty grey, thanks for sharing the pictures with us.
  24. She may be moving some food around in her crop like Dan said or she may be regurgitating for you but if she is otherwise acting normal and eating then she is not sick. And it is normal for them to drop a large bomb first thing in the morning, they hold their poop overnight so that first one in the morning is larger than the rest you will see throughout the day.
  25. Not every grey plucks but it depends on the circumstances they are raised in and how things happen in their flock, I do think some are more prone to develop a plucking habit no matter how they are treated by their family but please do not stress yourself out that your grey will pluck, they are very intune to our moods and feelings.
