  1. Thats precious and I don't blame him a bit, he doesn't like being naked.
  2. Hello Pilchards and welcome to our family. You are doing the right thing to find out all you can before you make the final decision to take this grey, they aren't like some birds that you can leave in their cage all the time, they need time out and with their human flock. The cage should be located where the family spends most of their time when home for they want to be a part of what is going on in the home. Yes they are chewers but if you provide some toys and things to chew on they will be less likely to chew on furniture and such, a separate cage from the other birds is a must as he/she may not get along with the other birds and they need one they can call their own, their safety zone. They do tend to bond with one person unless you socialize them well with the entire family, even though he might pick out a favorite it doesn't mean the rest of the family can't have a good relationship with him, maybe just a different one. We have a lot of threads here with loads of information, firsthand experience, that will help in making your decision so continue to read thru them and ask any questions you may have and we will try to help you in any way we can.
  3. Love those pterodactyl screams, thanks for sharing it with us.
  4. Hello Leanne and welcome to our family. Thanks for including some pictures of Rocco in your intro post, he is a handsome Tag, looking forward to hearing lots more about you and Rocco.
  5. Trancework that was an awesome post and very well thought out with loads of useful information, the only thing I would change is using a hair dryer after his shower, a grey should be allowed to air dry on its own for using the dryer dries out the skin. Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and maybe include a picture or two of your new grey.
  6. I have to agree with Dave, Dan and Wingy, it doesn't matter now about before, all that matters now is now so care for him the best you can, give him the love and attention he needs and forget about the band, as they say quit worrying over spilt milk.
  7. Its a lovely silhouette of her sitting there looking out on the cold and snow.
  8. That's wonderful to hear and you are talking about a harness, its good you are introducing it early for they are more accepting of it when young, I can't wait to hear how he does with it.
  9. Don't give him any food or water when he is out so he will have to go back to his cage then you can close him up in it. I never have any trouble with Josey going back into her cage but it seems lots of other folks do, the tip that Dan gave is a good one about it being evening, you can turn off the lights and pick him up to put him back into his cage. Some members on here have success with always putting a favorite treat in their cage at night when they want them going back inside, make sure he sees you put it in there and his curiosity will get the better of him.
  10. Hello Peter and welcome to our family. I saw the video of Richard in another thread, he is adorable as all grey babies are and now that he is flying I hope you will leave his wings unclipped so he can continue to do what a bird was meant to do, you just have to make some adjustments but you will have a more confident grey if you leave him flighted.
  11. Josey will eat both, I put whole wheat dry pasta in her bowl but most of the cooked is regular pasta.
  12. More than likely she will pick it up, they usually pick up the ones we don't want them to but the novelty might wear off eventually and Sabrina will get more used to it, at least hopefully, it is funny right now.
  13. Most vets do highly recommend Harrisons and most sell it at their office so it does make you wonder if they are actually pushing it because of that but my Josey eats Harrisons, I started feeding it to her from the day she came to my home and she eats it readily, I have never tried another brand since she eats it but the vegetables are better for them and should be offered even if they don't eat them, you never know when the day will come that they will give them a try and eat them so push the veggies. You can try mixing in some kind of pasta, Josey goes for any kind, she will eat macaroni, spaghetti, lasagna and you name it she will eat it.
  14. Sounds like your bird may be a little older than 8 months but we can't tell without some pictures but the advice is still the same, time and patience will be what you need right now, this bird has only been in your home for a few days, I am talking weeks and months to gain his/her trust and it has to be earned. I know you have to go close to the cage to give food and water but otherwise stay far enough away that the growling stops, then move closer and talk to him softly, sit nearby and talk to him, read the newspaper or a magazine, it doesn't matter as long as you are talking to him. He will eventually settle into his new home but these greys are nervous creatures and you have to take your time and not rush him until you have established some trust with him. If you have small children keep them at a distance for greys usually don't like their quick loud movements but do involve the whole family in communicating with him so he doesn't end up attaching himself to just one person. Don't worry about him talking right now, he will when he feels more comfortable.
  15. Just keep trying but watching Sassy eating hers is one of the best ways to get them to try new things, birds can be finicky about their food but the key is keep trying them for eventually they may take to them.
  16. When the cats away the mice will play, was that the dog howling or Sassy?
  17. Dan is so right, we need more information so we can better help you but if you know anything about greys at all you should know this will be a long slow process as you have to gain the bird's trust first before you can start training him. Why not make an intro post in the welcome room and tell us all about your bird, age, sex if you know it, where he/she came from, previous owners and so on and so forth.
  18. She has quite the feast laid out there for her and she looks great, wonderful update on Greycie.
  19. Pearl took her first vet visit in stride, always a good thing to hear and he is right about the towel, if they see the towel occasionally then they are not freaked out by it when they go for vet visits, glad to hear she is healthy.
  20. I have three birds, a grey, a sun conure and a cockatiel and I have all three of them out at the same time, they do not like one another but tolerate each other as long as there is a little distance between them. You will just have to try it and see what happens but my tiel will go over onto Josey's cage when she is off it to see what she can find to eat and sometimes she flies right by her head when going back to her cage, I have never had a fight break out but I have had a few beaks open up ready for it but that is the warning to back off.
  21. Penny, I was reminded by Val that you should have called your avian vet or poison control right after you found what Nilah had eaten, let that be a reminder to anyone else whose bird ingests possibly toxic materials to call first, I am glad that she is ok, sorry to scold if you had already done that but you didn't mention it in your opening post.
  22. Haven't tried any snow but I put ice cubes in each of my bird's water bowls, we have some snow right now so maybe I will try it.
  23. I bet she has a real buzz going but I am sure she will be fine, be sure to let us know when you get home.
  24. No its not just you Steve, are you putting the check mark in the box "remember me" that is right below where you put your screen name in? If you don't do that the forum will automatically log you out with a few minutes inactivity, some people are having problems seeing that box for it almost disappears since the home page has moved up with not much room to display it. I think Talon knows about it and has alerted the tech guys but it hasn't been resolved yet.
