  1. Josey hardly touches sunflower seeds but loves the safflower seeds, my sun conure is the one who eats sunflower seeds and my tiel will eat a few. I tried the pine nuts in the shell and Josey turned her head up at them so I gave them to Julie, a former member when she came over to visit as her grey loves pine nuts.
  2. Hello Moni and welcome to our family. Thanks so much for giving Kaylee a new forever home and it sounds like she is adjusting just fine. Sorry to hear of the heart issue but its good she was given a vet visit, at least you know about it now and what to look for. She looks like a real sweetheart especially in that last picture. The baths are necessary and its good you are going thru with bathing even if she doesn't like them as it keeps the dust and dander down and it makes her feel better even if she would disagree with you, you can also try spraying her with 100% aloe vera juice as it comes from the bottle, (find it in your local Walmart or similar store) it will be soothing to her skin. I would offer her a lot of different vegetables and try them in different ways, cooked, raw, chopped, mashed, sliced or whatever way you want for some prefer them a particular way but the key is to keep offering even if she doesn't eat them at first, usually in time they will at least try them.
  3. Kim you should do all you can to make it work as you owe Babalu that and have you considered using air purifiers as they help some people with allergies, something to think about.
  4. They may not be loving them quite as much right now as probably the hormones are kicking in with spring coming, I like them but not for me.
  5. All three of my birds use those boings, a necessity for any parrot.
  6. Dayo is a cutie pie and I can relate to those counter tops, exactly what I used to have until we did a kitchen makeover but hey he looks great on it.
  7. As Janet said be sure to tell Gracie that you are going and where, they do comprehend a lot of what we say and I bet she will be just fine and she will be glad to see you when you get back but the first time is the hardest.
  8. That is a lot of time to be away especially weeks at a time and even though he is comfortable with your mother he has to stay in his cage all that time so it might be the best thing to find him a new home where he will get the out of cage time he needs. I know this is a tough decision for you as you seem to care for him deeply.
  9. Great pictures of Slater in the outdoor aviary, such a lucky bird to have such nice digs to enjoy the sunshine and fresh air.
  10. Ray, I am so sorry for your loss, I know you have had tiels for many years and they hold a special place in your heart. I bet you are holding Willie a little closer now, I have a tiel now myself so I know how they can capture your heartstrings, again please accept my condolences on your loss.
  11. Hello Cindy and welcome to our family. You have been given some excellent advice so I can't add any more but giving us more information like Marguerite asked will help us to help you better but congrats on being willing to take in these two greys.
  12. Hello Charlie and welcome to our family. In regards to keeping food in the cage all the time yes please do, greys do not overeat, they will stop when they are satisfied and they like to eat all day so a good seed mix and/or pellets should be provided at all times. I would go easy on the grapes, they have little to no nutritional value and are mostly sugar, better to provide lots of different vegetables and leave fruit as an occasional treat. It sounds like you want Shiloh to bond with you but realize we can't control who they prefer so he may like your girlfriend more but it sounds like you will still have a good relationship with him even if he prefers her but don't worry about that right now or he will pick up on that for they are very in tune with our emotions and when we are stressed. You are doing the right thing in taking it slow and easy, never rush a grey for more than they are willing to give at any given time and you will earn their trust. Would love to see some pictures of Bailey and Shiloh if you have some you would share with us.
  13. Yep today is St Patrick's Day and I am just about ready to put on my corned beef, I only have one parrot who has any green feathers, Sunny my sun conure, not a lot but some.
  14. She probably did too drastic a wing clip but it does take time for new ones to come back as they usually lose these over a long period of time, sometimes it can take up to two years for all those clipped to be replaced as tail and wing feathers usually molt out at varying times but there could be some nutritional deficiency but the only way to find that out is by taking her to see an avian vet which I recommend you do if at all possible even if you have to travel for several hours to get there.
  15. What a gorgeous cockatoo, I am not sure what type he is but I bet one of the other members does, congrats on your new addition, handsome fella or gorgeous girl.
  16. Great picture of Bella and please do consider leaving her unclipped so a bird can do what a bird was meant to do.
  17. Since you were relaxed with the move so was Alfie, they do pick up on our emotions and stress, so glad to hear the move went well.
  18. I think most all of our greys love to hang upside down when playing with their toys at times, I know Josey does, great video of Alfie.
  19. Hello Dan and welcome to our family. You are going to have to back off a little and let her settle into her new home, she needs time to adjust and you need to earn her trust. It might take a while for her to come to allow you to touch her much and most do not like their feet messed with. Just talk to her and offer treats by hand, she will let you know when she is ready for more interaction, this could take days, weeks or months but it will be well worth it when it happens. Do you have any other birds? What is your grey's name? We would love to see some pictures of her if you have some you would share with us.
  20. I bet she does it too for I don't hear Josey grinding her beak but I know she does it.
  21. Well following that logic I have one parrot too many. You certainly have one smart grey there in Chico.
  22. It all eventually works itself out and Leo and Sassy are working on their relationship, great update.
  23. Poor kid didn't know if he was coming or going, well the important thing is he wasn't feeling any pain.
  24. Bet you will take that switching any day huh, thanks for sharing the videos.
  25. My sun conure grinds her beak sometimes when sitting on my shoulder but Josey never does, in fact even after she has gone to bed I still don't hear her grinding her beak, maybe she is a quiet grinder.
