Hello Michael and welcome to our family. There may be some breeders of greys in Alaska, why not try avianbiotech.com you can do a search by state and see if any turns up, you can also contact local vets to see if any of them have any information that may be of help to you in your search. We used to have an active member who lived in Alaska but he has not been on the forum now for several years. That would be excellent if you could find a grey that needed a new forever home, they are available but sometimes hard to find but do keep looking.

Hello Herbies Parront and welcome to our family. We do have several members from the UK who will chime in with where they shop but I do know that one online place some of them go to is Northern Parrots, not sure what the web address is but just google it to find it. Would love to see some pictures of Herbie if you have some you would share with us.

Hello, and thanks for the unique forum
judygram replied to KevinD's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hello Kevin and welcome to our family. I am so glad you picked the one you did and I feel so bad about the greys you encountered for they are possibly wild caught, ripped from the only home they knew then handled like so much meat, oh don't get me started. You have done the right thing in taking your time with him, let him settle into his new home and do not force anything on him right now, he needs to feel safe and secure in order for a bond to develop between the two of you and that takes lots of time and patience. He will let you know when he is ready for more as greys are very cautious creatures. Thanks for including a couple of pictures of him in your intro post and do you have a name for him yet? -
Newly adopted by a beautiful grey

Hello Gail and welcome to our family. Congrats on being adopted by Chloe, may it be just the beginning of something very special to you both, would love to hear more about you both and maybe see a couple of pictures of Chloe if you have some you would share with us. -
Hello from Kelly and her brat birds
judygram replied to Brat Birds's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hello Kelly and welcome to our family. You have exactly the same combination of birds as I have except I have a Cag instead of a Tag. I think it is the right number of birds to be happy with, I can have all 3 of them on me at the same time though not for long but we all co exist together very well as long as there is a little bit of distance between the 3. -
Thanks for the update on Jelly Bean, glad to hear he is doing just fine and I hope your husband stays safe and comes home intact, gotta love those servicemen.
-
Congrats on your new addition but I must say that if you have 10 birds then you are definitely suffering from MBS and in a big way, how do you have any time for anything else, my 3 take up a lot of my time and even though there are a couple of birds I would like to have I have limited myself to the 3 I have.

I hear ya and neither do I!

Thats wonderful news so keep it going now with other vegetables, just eat them in front of him and let him take it from there. He is beginning to feel more comfortable now and showing more of his true personality, enjoy.

This thread contains a list of fruits and vegetables that are safe to feed our greys, offer several different vegetables every day and fruit only a couple of days a week as they should have more veggies than fruit. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?59809-complete-veggie-fruit-list.

She does not know she has a deformity and does just fine, has she been seen by an avian vet to determine if anything can be done or if she might need to take anything for it?

Birds have periods of time they are very vocal, usually in the morning and in the evening but yes it is normal for him to take a nap in the afternoon, he sounds like a normal grey to me. The thing about offering different vegetables is that they may not eat them at first but keep offering them, try them different ways, cooked, raw, chopped, mashed and so forth to see if one way is preferable to another, lots of dark green and dark yellow vegetables are best. It makes no difference if offered by hand, food is provided in bowls but treats are usually offered by hand. I would stay away from strawberries unless they are organic for they are the one fruit that has been heavily treated with pesticides, be sure to wash any and all fresh produce beforehand. Never withhold food to make them eat what is offered, transitioning them from only sunflower seeds will be a long process but you don't want to deny your grey food and they need food available at all times since they tend to snack all day long.

Now owned by a grey, where to start advice much appreciated
judygram replied to Shell's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hello Shell and welcome to our family. As the others have said open the cage door and allow her to come out on her own, she needs some time every day to be out but give her plenty of time to settle into her new home and be very patient with her as she gets to know you. -
Hello Sanveaz and welcome to our family. Its wonderful when our companions can choose us and not the other way around, he was determined to not let you get away, what a sweetheart he is.
-
Yep sometimes its the simple things they enjoy, buy them fancy expensive toys but give them a box or bottle cap and they are happy as clams, great looking Tag.
-
Gabby doesn't know she has a bum leg so she can wrestle with the best of them, glad she got a clean bill of health.

Hello Vicky and welcome to our family. Congrats on your first grey and I am so glad to hear you have done your homework to get prepared for the day you bring your Tag home, you have chosen an awesome creature to share your life with and so glad your dream is about to become reality. You have already been given some excellent advice, you have a good cage and hopefully some toys for him/her to play with. Be sure to ask your breeder what foods are being offered and what brand of pellets are being fed to your baby. Thanks for including a picture of your baby in your intro post and I look forward to seeing lots more in the future.

Elaina, greys kept as companions do not make breeder birds, they bond with their humans. Greys that are breeders are kept away from humans for they do not like the intrusion, breeders bond with each other and just because you put a female with a male is no guarantee they will like each other, one could maim or kill the other if they don't get along. Your female is a long way from being mature enough to even consider breeding and there is a lot more involved than just putting the two together, I would just keep your greys as pets and companions and forget trying to breed them.

Do take a stroll thru the toys and playstands room for threads that deal with making your own toys from some common household items, store bought toys can get expensive and they can go thru them quickly, you can also browse the baby section of stores for suitable toys so happy hunting.
-
It certainly couldn't hurt, maybe try different types of toys to see which ones he favors more, they like to chew so wooden ones are great and try adding a heavy duty stainless steel bell for greys love bells.

Hello My Luna and welcome to our family. I am so glad you could give Luna a new forever home and its wonderful she is responding so well to the change, now all we need is some pictures of her so we can admire her beauty.

Hello VoHooman and welcome to our family. Nika is a handsome fella and it takes time for a grey to settle into a new home so take your time and be very patient with him as he goes thru the adjustment and you will be handsomely rewarded. You have to earn a grey's trust so go slow and easy with him. Thanks for including a picture of him in your intro post.
