I have included a link to a thread that deals with full spectrum lighting and it has a few links to sites where you can buy those types and also one of the members wrote a piece on how to make one and attach it inside the room for your bird, hope this helps. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/limitstart/20/african-grey/47809-lighting.html

Show Me Yours... And I'll Show You Mine

I like the tattoo Jackie and your daughter is very talented to design that, it looks great and btw I love your signature especially the first part, that about sums it up. -
Ollyo wrote: OMG, I hope you don't give her much of that for it has too much fat to be good for her. Now Josey will just about turn herself inside out to get a piece of cheese when she sees the bag coming out of the fridge:woohoo:

She will speak when she feels more comfortable, it takes time for them to settle down in a new home so be patient and I am sure she will be more vocal.B) Thanks for sharing some pictures of her and I especially like the last one, it looks like you are holding her up with your big toe.

Well I am in the same boat with ya Siobhan, I am going no where this summer either but I do have plans for a trip this December. My hubby and I, our two kids, their spouses and two of the grandkids are going to Disney World for a week but that is close to six months away.

That is wonderful news Pat, proof that time and patience does work and I can imagine you are on cloud nine at the moment, thanks so much for sharing your good news with us.

Well if Auntie Caroline gets one where is mine and just where do I fit in with all these kin:laugh: {Love-000200DA}
-
Thats a great idea Caroline, she could have him come on and at least read this thread if nothing else but he needs to at least understand the grey needs time out of that cage, he wants and needs to be with his flock.

Well you should be able to look around and find somewhere that will allow your birds but I know how you feel, they are part of your life now and like your children, you probably aren't old enough for them but thats how we feel about our greys and other birds. I wish you luck and keep us updated, I see you have been a member for over a year but you haven't posted much, stay in touch and we can help you thru this difficult time in your life. Us grey owners have to stick together, no one else understands how we feel about our "babies"

Hello Jody and welcome to the family, so glad you decided to join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Sidney and Ricco. I remember the thread about the chlamydia issue and I hope it all works out fine for you and your family to adopt these two birds. Its so heartwarming to hear that you want to give a home to these two birds and they sound lovely from your first meeting with them. I have a sun conure also and it was first before my grey so I do things for her before I do the same things for my grey, that is so she knows she is first. You will have to keep the two new ones in quarantine for at least 45 days but then you can bring them into the same room with the other bird. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask questions you may have and we will do our best to get some answers and help you in any way we can. When you get the chance to get some pictures and would share them with us we would love to see them, even the sun conure, we have an other birds room where you can post them.

If your playstand has a tray to catch the poops then I don't see what the problem is. Is Demon fully flighted?
-
How long have you had Demon? He does need some time out of his cage, do you have a playstand he could be on and be out without him soiling the carpet? You can buy that Poopoff stuff at most online sites that sell parrot supplies and maybe at your local pet supply store.

Then he probably is a little overweight if he is only eating mostly sunflower seeds. He needs a varied diet of fruits, veggies, legumes, nuts and some seeds. He can also eat some of what you have for dinner. We have some threads that deal with what fruits and veggies they can have and some of the things they should never have so read thru the bird food room for lots of informative threads.

His keel bone is the one down his chest in the middle, the one that separates the two side of his breast. Check it and see if you can feel it or if it is surrounded by too much meat on both sides.
-
He looks ok to me but have you checked his keel bone, you should be able to feel it? Do you check his weight regularly with a gram scale?
-
Jackyboy, why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little more about you and your grey.B)
-
Yes your son has to come first, but I hope it works out that you will be able to take these two birds if their tests come back negative again, it sounds like you would really love to have them. Keep us informed as to what happens, one way or another.

Thanks Siobhan and Dan for the belated birthday wishes. How did you know how old I am Dan, but then thats what all us women over the age of 30 say we are:woohoo:
-
The best thing to do JC is to weigh Bobo every day for a few weeks to get an average weight and then you can do it weekly or more often if anything indicates something is wrong or out of the ordinary.
-
Thanks Laurie and Toni for the birthday wishes and I did have a great day. Jessie, my granddaughter, was with me the whole day, we went to see a movie, Kungfu Panda, did some shopping and then joined my hubby for dinner out. We had no bad luck all day, we had a wonderful time together and will do it again soon. Hope you all had a great day on Friday the 13th, its just another day of the year.

Well if I am guessing correctly it is bird masturbation, she backs up to me and shuffles her butt up toward me:blush: now are you sorry you asked.
-
Butt shuffling:laugh:  thats a good one Berna, but Sunny, my sun conure does that to me sometimes when she is on my shoulder:pinch: I distract her to something else.

There are no "dumb" questions here regarding our greys, whatever it is just ask. Woody is still a youngster but he will soon be sexually mature so that could bring some other problems into the equasion. I would look for bright eyes and no discharge from the nares and be looking for any bare areas on the body where he might be plucking. Just observe his behavior with his owner and he may not be receptive of you at this point but don't hold that against him as he does not know you yet. If you do get him it will take a while for him to feel comfortable with you so give him lots of time and be very patient with him. I look forward to hearing how this visit goes so be sure to update us on it when you get back.
-
Yes when you are waiting for something the wait can be like forever but it will be here soon, it will be all the sweeter when it does get here. I would get a cage at least 2 feet deep and 3 preferably 4 feet wide, they need enough room to be able to open their wings fully and flap. You can do an internet search and find some places that sell cages and ship for free, some here have even gotten their cage off ebay. A playstand is very convenient for them to play away from the cage but just make sure there are some toys and things inside the cage for him/her to play with when caged to occupy the time. We have several threads that some members posted pics of their cages and playstands, just do a search to find them.
