  1. Thanks for sharing the pics with us, wish my grey loved thye shower like that but at least she tolerates it.
  2. I look forward to seeing some pics when you get them.
  3. I guess Tyco figured you weren't going to ignore her this time, what a hoot she is and a very naughty girl, have you forgiven her yet:laugh:

    pellets

Cflanny, you can get both coarse or fine, Josey prefers the fine but you can get a small bag of each and see which your grey prefers.B)
  5. Wish I lived in a metropolitan area where the money flows abundantly so I could pick up some of those electronic things that other people throw away but sadly that is not the case here in the country, out in the middle of almost nowhere. Oh well it has it's other perks, thats for sure. B)
  6. I'd definitely pick "Margreeete" over that other one any day wouldn't you:lol: B)
  7. So Storm doesn't have a cage at the moment? You really need a cage for him to be in when you are not at home for he could get into something that could harm or kill him. He might decide to chew on some electrical wires and get fried from it. He should not have the run of the house, this bird is definitely calling the shots, you are allowing him to do as he pleases and he will use it to his best advantage if you continue. He is not trying to make a nest, greys love to shred up things, paper is a favorite but they will chew anything they can get ahold of and that includes your furniture. You have the equivilent of a small child, you would not dare leave that child unattended while you are out of the house, the same applies here to your grey. I think you need to set up a cage immediately so he has someplace to go when you aren't home if you want to have a living grey in your future.

    HELP!

I can see how that could be traumatic for a grey as I know some humans who are scared of bad thunderstorms:ohmy: Glad to hear Dorian is pretty much back to his "normal" self.
  9. This news breaks my heart Donste and she may have the parrot waste disease but couldn't they confirm that with tests? I don't know much about it but it does sound like she is not going to get any better and if she is suffering then that weighs heavily on what to do about her. What does your vet say? I will continue to keep you and Dorian in my thoughts and prayers, that she may somehow make a miracle recovery but in any case please keep us informed, we do care about you and Dorian.
  10. That is so funny Marguerite and maybe you should count yourself lucky that Dorian didn't repeat the (*$#&*) that was uttered in haste, thanks for sharing that with us:lol:  :woohoo: :cheer:
  11. One piece of advice on sticking your hand inside the cage, most greys view their cage as their territory, especially an older or rehomed grey so avoid putting your hand inside his cage if you can help it until he has bonded with you, encourage him to come outside of his cage where he will be more receptive of your hand.
  12. Dal, if you really want to keep Joey and could provide him with a loving home and are willing to work with him to bond with you then keep him but you need to get over the fear of being bitten again for it will happen. You can try balling your hand into a fist when you see a bite coming. Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little more about you and Joey.
  13. Erika you could put one of those big boings in Baxter's cage, I have one hanging in the highest part of Josey's cage and it might be time to get another one as she uses it a lot. I get my pets Christmas presents too, as we think of them as part of our family so therefore they deserve gifts too. I've not decided what those presents are going to be this year, hmmmmm, have to think on that on a bit. :cheer:

  15. Hello Rebecca and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Tilly. What a shame she is missing the toes off one foot but if she has been that way since a baby in the nest then she does not know she is handicapped and she does the best she can. Young greys can be a little clumsy and she probably more because of the missing toes but she will gain more confidence in time. You might want to lower her perches in her cage so she has less height to fall from. Greys will sometimes favor one sex over the other but your hesitance to handle her because of being bitten is not helping any, she can pick up on that and act accordingly. She may always prefer your hubby as her favorite but that doesn't mean she won't have a good relationship with you, just somewhat different. It does take time and lots of patience to get a grey espcially one a little older than a just weaned baby to feel comfortable in her new home so give her some more time and get over your nervousness around her. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful and helpful information and do ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. We would love to see some pictures of Tilly if you would like to share some with us.
  16. I would imagine you would have a house full if you took every one of them that tugged at your heart strings but you are wise to know your limits. Even though you would have liked to have brought this grey home, you realize the more you bring into your home the less time you have with the ones you have and that would be a disservice to them, you can't save them all even though you want to.B)
  17. Erika you know I am so proud of you for what you have done for Baxter and it does take someone special to do what you have accomplishedm you both are so lucky to have each other, karma comes to you for the inspiration you have provided for others who may have considered taking in a rescue, it can be very rewarding indeed. Thank you Erika from the bottom of my heart. {Love-000200BF}
  18. I hear ya Terri, a real honest to goodness conversation with Bella, she is so smart isn't she, I never doubted it for a moment. Thanks Terri for sharing another story with us of Bella, the conversational grey.
  19. Well I guess congrats is in order for you on finding a baby grey, those others fell thru for a reason, this little boy was waiting just for you. I know October 1 won't come soon enough either. You do sound very excited as you should be and you speak highly of the breeder you are getting this grey from, would be nice if all breeders were this good. A lot of times the bird picks you and not vice versa and I believe he was meant to be your baby, he and you both knew it at the same time, fate if you want to call it that. Too bad you forgot your camera but if you do get some pics from the breeder we want to see him so please share some with us. We share your sentiments about the site also.
  20. We have quite a few that have rescued greys and they are all blossoming from the loving care they are getting from people who genuinely care and love them. Thanks Dan for sharing that video with us.
  21. It does look very uncomfortable but it must not be or they wouldn't do it, very funny looking.:woohoo:
  22. It is normal behavior but it can look quite scarey when it happens for the first time, almost like they are going to get their jaw out of socket.  B)
  23. I think you will still bond nicely with your new grey even if you wait until it is weaned to get it, especially if you can visit and spend a little time with it. Your love and attention after you bring it home will ensure the bond.
  24. I know what you mean, I had to pull Josey's cage a little further away from the wall where it sits, she was trying to chew on the picture frame that was hanging on the wall above her, the little stinkers.
  25. Congrats on bringing Morgan home and he seems to be settling in very nicely, thanks for letting us know and thanks too for the photos, he is a handsome little fella. B)
