  1. My female is 7 years old and she can occasionally get in that mood but I discourage her and everything is fine, it shouldn't damage your relationship at all and if she does offer you her dinner just let her do it in your hand and say thank you, you do not want her touching the inside of your mouth for we carry bacteria that could make her very sick.
  2. She has accepted you as her mate and is trying to feed you, this you want to discourage but it is that time of the year when hormones are at their peak. You should discontinue the petting sessions, only pet her on her head and avoid down the back, under the wings or anywhere around the tail area as they will only make her sexually frustrated. You need to redirect her attention elsewhere even if it means taking her back to her cage or to a playstand, tell her "thanks but no thanks" and walk away for a bit.
  3. Hello Tinkertonker and welcome to our family. So glad to hear you rescued Bill from his sad situation and give him the love and attention he deserves, no doubt he will flourish in your care. He is probably grateful for the variety of food you have offered and is enjoying every bite being offered, love that messy beak in the photo. Thanks for sharing a photo of Bill in your opening post but do not hesitate to share many more if you like, he is a handsome fella.
  4. Yes you do Dee but I can't do that in my house, darn it!
  5. Once you give reputation to someone you can't give that same person more until you have added to the reputation of others, now I don't know how many others you have to give it to before you can add to the first person's rep but that's how it works, seems screwy to me.
  6. Yeah they have suffered plenty but they don't call it tornado alley for nothing, I love my mountains more and more every day.
  7. Happy Hatchday Biscotti, you lucky devil you, may you be spoiled totally rotten today.
  8. I would never pay double for a grey with red feathers and no one should, they may not stay for they may be gone by the next molt but the over pricing only encourages this fad to have something out of the ordinary as in there are some that have been bred to be all red but who knows how that affects their overall health, not for me. If my grey would have a few red feathers other than her tail then that is fine but I like their beauty as they are.
  9. Well you know word of mouth is one of the best ways that people find you but you have such a big heart and I know you will help to find a new home for this blue and gold macaw and I doubt that it will be the last one you hear about. You wish is my wish and probably every member on this forum's wish about reading and signing the parrot's bill of rights, so many people get these creatures with no knowledge of what they are getting themselves into and then later down the road they are in need of a new home, it should be punishable by law but isn't so we all do our part to help educate people about these wild animals but we have a long way to go I am afraid. Many kudos to you for doing what you do, bless you.
  10. Hello Cassie and welcome to our family. Willow is a beautiful grey, love those dark eyes and she is settling into her new home very nicely. Its unusual for them to be plucking at this young age so an avian vet visit is in order, they should have a vet check them over anyways when you bring a new one into the flock but since she is pulling out feathers that means that something is bothering her and mites are a possibility so schedule one for as soon as you can get one so you can nip this in the bud before it becomes a habit. Sometimes their skin is dry and if so it becomes itchy, get some aloe vera juice and spray her with it undiluted, be sure to soak her good with it, under the wings and especially where she is plucking, it soothes the skin and it won't hurt her if she ingests any of it, you can get it at any Walmart.
  11. Hello Benitta and welcome to our family. I don't know how your previous grey escaped but I hope you have taken the proper precautions so this never happens again. Why not tell us more about you and Asal, how old she is and so on so we can get to know you two better and I look forward to seeing some pictures of her. If you have questions please ask as we would like to help you in any way we can.
  12. They say what they like or want to say and it has been shown time and time again its things they only hear once or twice they repeat many times over and then other things we say to them repeatedly they never catch on to, seems if you want them to repeat something only say it once or twice and you may have a hit. I agree Karen, they can give some pretty interesting looks with their eyes at times, no words needed.
  13. Two weeks is nothing when you are talking about a grey so develop some patience, they don't say "good things come to those who wait" for nothing. Just be patient and give it more time but realize some greys do not like much touching.
  14. I knew cell phones emit radiation, thats why I keep mine well away from my fids, thanks for the info Brandon.
  15. Thane is a beautiful baby but wish they hadn't clipped his wings. I personally think they should be allowed to learn to fly before clipping them, it makes for a more confident bird and if they are denied the ability to fly then they never achieve excellent flying skills. My Josey was clipped after she took several flights then she either chewed off or pulled flight feathers from one side so she never gained a full set of flights until just last year, she can fly but not like she should be able to if she had been left unclipped. Penny maybe your birds have been the exception.
  16. Happy Birthday to you, hope you have a wonderful one today and many many more since you are just a young thing.

  17. OMG the floodgates are open now, congrats on Storm beginning to talk, some like to take their time and perfect their skill, he will be saying all kinds of words and phrases now.
  18. I love the pictures where the wings are spread, awesome creatures and Shelby is no exception, you did a good job of capturing that.
  19. Looks to me like he likes it or he would be growling or trying to run away from it, he is a sweetheart there giving you kisses, thanks for sharing that with us.
  20. It depends on your post count so whenever I give reputation I add 3 or more bars to someone who doesn't have very many posts so count yourself lucky if you get some from me and likewise it takes many to give me another green bar, thats the pitfall of having so many posts.
  21. I am sorry that things didn't work out for you and this grey but hopefully he will find a new forever home with people who understand him and his personality, don't take it as defeat but that he just needs the right person to work with him and his issues, a better fit you might say.
  22. Greys can be pretty forgiving when they want to and Alfie knew something was not right with the family, he has just endeared himself to you that much more.
  23. This statement disturbs me as generally greys do not like cuddling, yes a few do but to take the chance that you get one that does is remote and the worse thing you can do is take one of these greys in and it doesn't work out so therefore that bird is looking to yet another home. You might want to look to another species of bird especially the toos for they are noted for being "velcro birds".
  24. You probably got it from mine as you are always stealing from me, tee hee:rolleyes:
  25. I gave up a little fixing up a long time ago and no major remodel will ever be done at this stage, I am content with what I have and live with it, if anyone else doesn't like it then that is their problem not mine.
