  1. I suspect we all have inhaled a few since its just a fact of life when you share your home with birds especially when they are on our shoulder or close by, darn little buggers go wisping aloft on the slightest movement of air, the silliest part is sometimes they themselves can be a little spooked by one as it flies by their head.
  2. Wow Stormy is one year old already and yes the panting is more of a bonding thing right now since she is not old enough to be sexually mature but just like in human children they can be sexually stimulated by touching certain parts of the body so do not pet down the back, under the wings or anywhere around the tail area but otherwise it sounds like things are going well for you all. Now just waiting on the video you mentioned, don't keep us waiting long. ;)
  3. Janet is right about the size of the harness and the sooner you introduce your baby to one the better as they will accept it more readily, we have lots of hawks here also so you do need to be extra careful of having him outside, you need to keep your eyes glued to the sky on the lookout for them for they can be fast and quick to snap up an unsuspecting victim.
  4. Thanks Penny for explaining this as it has been confusing to me and to the others, it is a complicated system and I never understood it but it makes more sense to me now and hopefully to the other members as well.
  5. There are some greys who like one sex over the other so that may factor in also but I hope you get it figured out but in the meantime we feel your pain as we all have had to go thru rough patches at times with our greys, its all part of sharing our life with them.
  6. Happy Hatchday Sid, I mean Argyle, its hard to believe you are six but if Mummy says so then I believe her, of course you can have 2 birthdays, whats good for the queen is good enough for you too, I know you will be treated special on your special day.
  7. I know you would have loved to have been there to see it but you will soon when he comes home, know you are getting antsy about that day but it will be here soon enough and it sounds like you are ready and willing.
  8. This was posted over 2 years ago, I highly doubt it is still available.
  9. Upon further inspection I do see it hanging down under the tail section, my bad as I didn't look close enough, you got me this time and I will check closer next time before I open my mouth and jump to conclusions.;)
  10. Karen we all have that, we buy toys we think they will just love to only find out they are freaked out by the sight of it, too bad we are all separated by such distances or we could have a toy exchange.
  11. You mean you leave him in the cage when you are home, shame on you for when parronts are home birds are out, its an unspoken rule and if you don't abide by it then suffer the consequences, sometimes we have to do what we have to do and they will survive.
  12. Tarzan is just preening in that video you shared so no worries there. One thing I want to stress to you is not to obsess about this plucking thing, if she does start plucking then just ignore it, if you make a big deal about it then it could encourage her to do it more for the attention she gets. They all do a certain amount of preening every day, a girl has to look good ya know, but don't worry about if she is overpreening right now, you have enough on your plate right now so don't add unnecessary items to the mix. Please be aware that she may be on her best behavior right now, we call it the honeymoon phase when they first come into their new home from previous homes so watch out for differing behavior in the near future as she settles into her new home and her baggage is unpacked. She should be out of her cage for as long as you can manage it, a minimum of 3 to 4 hours a day and if she sits in one place for a while well that is normal especially for older birds. From the sounds of it yes you did good in ordering her a new cage, rust is not good so as soon as you get it set it up and move her into it, put the new cage close to the old one and she will end up going inside to check it out, be sure to put some perches and hang some toys and let her see you put a treat inside the new cage as that will help entice her to go inside.
  13. Josey and Gypsy are dunkers, Sunny used to do it more but she has slacked off but you are not alone in this necessity of having to change the water often.
  14. I'm lucky that my hubby and I do not vacation together, he uses all his vacation time for hunting so I travel alone and that leaves him to care for my fids, I just have to plan around his trips.
  15. Finally we get you to get a grey, knew you couldn't live without one and once you have one you will wonder how you got along before, that's great or should I say greyt, now make it two greys and you will have two of each, can't wait to hear more.
  16. Shelby does look wonderful outdoors but one word of caution, I do not see a harness on her and she is fully feathered and could fly away if spooked so be careful of having her outside, I would hate to see you lose her to a sudden wind current, off of soapbox now.
  17. So glad to hear that Neytiri is about back to her old self so I guess the cone didn't come off on Saturday but it should be off soon. Like Jill said you can help her with the pins if she allows you to but go easy for if you hit one that isn't ready she will let you know.
  18. Like Penny I do not have a problem with my 3, I can put my hand inside and have them step up for me and that includes Josey my grey, she readily steps up from her open door and you don't even have to ask, I put my hand up to her and she knows what I want, all 3 will go back into their cages no problem. Erik I think something has changed in his environment and it has to do with you, it might be something so seemingly insignificient to you but to him its a big deal so think back to anything you can think of at the time of his changing attitude.
  19. No its more like Dirty Harry, "Go ahead punk, make my day":rolleyes:
  20. I hope the move goes smoothly and Jake and Dayo take it all in stride, makes you wonder what is going thru their mind when they see things boxed up and the furniture disappearing from the rooms but when they get to the new home they will see it all again.
  21. As a matter of fact I am a Clint Eastwood fan but that has nothing to do with this. The market for these wild caught birds was started because people are willing to pay money for these birds, simple truth and it will not stop until the people stop supporting it. I know you feel like you have rescued this grey and for that I commend you but you can't save them all. This practice needs to be stopped and it will not until people quit buying the birds. Do you realize how these birds are caught? They are trapped under a net and who knows how many of them perish or have to be euthanised because they are frightened and flail about with some breaking bones and suffocating to death, I have seen films of this very practice. This is nothing against you personally and I wish you the best with Sukie but this trade of selling wild caughts birds is deplorable and should be stopped. Off my soap box now.
  22. The honeymoon period is over and now the true personality is showing thru but do not give up just yet as you haven't had Sukie but for a few weeks and it is nothing in terms of grey time. Just be patient and give Sukie lots of time and don't push for more than he/she is will to give. I have to preach a little here but Sukie is probably wild caught and this practice will not stop until people quit buying these animals and you have only contributed to the problem, I am not blaming you per se but as long as there is a market for these birds it will continue to be a problem. Off my soapbox now.
  23. I want this book but its only available for the Ipad right now on ebook, maybe soon it will be available for the Kindle.
  24. Happy Hatchday Luna, you are a beautiful girl, hope you enjoyed your treats.
