  1. My grey won't touch them, figures that something that is good for them she turns her beak up at.
  2. He is a very sweet looking grey, they really are so precious at this age, thanks for sharing some pics of him with us and FINALLY he is home, enjoy him.
  3. I can hear it now, a new excuse for not turning in homework, "but my grey tore my homework up, really she did" :woohoo:
  4. She fell in the dishwater one time trying to get into the water to take a bath but no harm came to her as the water had cooled somewhat and I immediately plucked her out, she doesn't try that trick anymore. Believe me, no animal was harmed in the course of my dishwashing.
  5. Hello Karen and welcome to our family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you, Jasper and Ruby. Now we want more information, like how old are they, how long have you had them, did you get them as babies or are they rescued or rehomed greys, do you have any other birds or parrots? We like to get some more background so we can get to know you and your birds better and to be of help when the time comes that you have a problem and need help. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so do read thru them at your leisure and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. We love pictures here so if you have some of Jasper and Ruby you would share with us we would greatly appreciate it.
  6. Only a vet can determine whether your grey needs trimmed or not and if it is growing out of alignment then she needs to be seen soon, real soon.
  7. Keep trying Susan but they pick up what they want to say.
  8. Thats cute Susan and I bet she will be talking any day now at least I hope so.
  9. My little sun conure pooped in the dish water one time, she is usually hanging on me somewhere in the shoulder area and she promply hung over the sink and let it go, hows that for washing dishes with bird poop. My kids are afraid one day she will poop in their food I am preparing but I have a sharp eye out for that.
  10. I keep my Josey away from anything that is valuable that can tear up, I either distract her with something else or take it away, I know I am a mean mommy but someone has to do it.
  11. Mine are awake when I uncover them at whatever time I do that, weekdays it is about 6:30 am but on the weekends it might be 8 or so before I get up to uncover them, sometimes hubby will uncover them if he is home as he usually gets up early every morning. Mine are quiet until they hear me up or I uncover their cages, you don't hear a peep out of them, they are good birds, they don't wake mommy up early.

  13. Darwin is a beauty and your pictures are great, it looks like she is posing for the camera, OMG she is a camera hog, she is very photogenic. Thanks so much for coming back and giving us an update, we are always interested in how our little family members are doing and glad to hear she is doing great, I'm assuming you have a grin as wide as your face.
  14. Yep thats a solution Caroline, where there is a will there is a way, you are way too overprotective but otherwise a good mummy. That would also be a good idea for those who have closet talkers, set up one of them in the room where their cage is and catch them talking when otherwise they would be quiet. I don't have to worry about that for Josey is not shy about talking.
  15. Thats fine and almonds are good for them. Why don't you look around the bird food room for more information about different foods and I have included a link to a list of safe vegetables and fruits. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/bird-food/59809-complete-veggiefruit-list.html
  16. Yes great thread Caroline, karma coming to you for starting it. Josey is out from the time I get home, it varies, to her bedtime which is around 9:30 or so, she is out on the weekends most of the day and some of that time is one on one time with her. I know some of our members greys get more out of cage time and some get less but you make the most of what you have and your loved one gets used to the routine but one that is closed up all day with no time out is going to develop behavior problems.
  17. I agree Dan for it may be possible for a small Tag to get their head caught in 1 inch bar spacing but usually they recommend nothing wider than 1 inch.
  18. Then you will have to travel a distance to see an avian vet even if you have to travel for hours but it kind of sounds more like your grey may have had a night fright, they do thrash around in their cage and are very frightful and scared but then calm down. Since he is eating and acting otherwise normal this is my opinion but you really need this bird checked out if you haven't had it done in a while, like longer than a year.
  19. Please get this grey to the vet now as he needs help and let us know what you find out, I pray that he will be ok, my thoughts are with you.
  20. Hello Spineyro and welcome to our family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Simi. Only by dna testing will you know for sure whether you have a male or female and it makes no matter about whether it likes one sex over the other, that is a myth. A lot of greys do tend to be one person birds, they usually do pick a favorite but that doesn't mean that there won't be a good relationship with the other members of the household, it will just be different. I wouldn't take her food away from her, she should have some available at all times, like her pellets that she can nibble on when she wants as some greys do eat some at night. I don't know about the training but you will just have to find out what she likes best and save that for training purposes or maybe she could be rewarded with praise for training, that works for some. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so do read thru them at your leisure and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. I take that to be a picture of Simi in your avatar but if you have others you would share with us we would love to see them.
  21. I would have her checked out by your avian vet just to be on the safe side, that does look darker there where her ear is and let us know what you find out.
  22. I can imagine that must be some sight for usually people are walking their dogs not birds but that is great that you take them out like that and maybe next time Tyco will think twice before refusing to get in the pack. Your neighbors probably think you are bird nuts and that is ok, you know you are fine, they are the ones missing out, they just don't know it.
  23. Yeah I guess I jumped on that too soon, great picture of her enjoying a bath, thanks for sharing that with us.
