Congrats Melissa on getting Tuki home safe and sound and yes like the others have said he needs a little time to settle in and feel comfortable before you see his personality come thru. Thats great that he took some treats from you and soon he will be feeling right at home. I look forward to seeing some pictures when you get the chance to share some with us.

I don't know too much about parrotlets but I am sure you can find out tons if you goggle it. Thanks for sharing the pic of the pair you got, I especially like the little blue one, very pretty birds.

""""I'm so upset. Did I ruin the headway I had made???? """" Yes you have but not all is lost, you will just have to gain his trust again and that won't be easy, it will take a lot of time. Continue to open his cage to allow him to come out if he wants but if he doesn't then don't force it, he needs to learn that you can be trusted again but it will take a long time. He may sulk for a while, some do and some don't, continue to talk to him softly and offer treats and if he indicates to you he doesn't want you getting too close then back off and give him some space. You have certainly brought to a halt the headway you were making but you can build that relationship up again, it just takes some hard work. Others will have some more ideas and suggestions for you too.

I just saw this in the newspaper today and it doesn't surprise me in the least, we have some mockingbirds who stay around our house all the time. They occasionally chase the cat thru the yard but I have never had them dive bomb me. They sit up on the top of the light pole and go thru their mimics, I love to hear them sing.

"You just wait until I get this monkey suit off, I am coming for blood"

I feed my grey and conure the shredded wheat, the original small bites, it has no added sugar or salt, in fact it is nothing but the wheat, even if they don't eat much of it it's fun to shred.

Hello Karen and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and this new Cag. I guess it was just not meant to be for you to have the Tag and if she has a good home then all the better but once you have a grey you must have another. Being your brother you will still be able to see her maybe not as much as you would like but he certainly can keep you informed of how she is doing. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. I look forward to seeing some pictures when you get some, we absolutely adore the grey babies here.

Hello Badhbh and welcome to our family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and this new grey in your future. You sound like a busy woman who must live on a farm with all those animals and quite a mix of animals I must say, only one stands out as unusual and that is the tarantula, but not that unusual as my daughter had one when she was younger. Please do read thru the many threads here for lots of useful information and do ask questions, no matter how silly they may seem, believe me we have heard them before, and we will help you in any way we can.

Now that looks like a neat toy, look at the size of it, at least one of your greys loves it, thanks for sharing that with us.

I think you would be happy with either, I happen to have a Cag but would have been just as happy to have had a Tag, not a whole lot of difference in them except for the obvious differences in beak and tail color and Tags are smaller.<br><br>Post edited by: judygram, at: 2009/05/18 02:04

So sad as that is usually the case in a divorce when a parrot is a part of their life but their loss is your gain and maybe someday they will be able to get another one. I have two parrots, a grey named Josey and a sun conure named Sunny, they are both a delight to have. I got Sunny first then wanted another larger bird and decided on a grey, she has been an amazing addition to the household, only wish I had gotten her sooner. I also have 2 dogs, both yellow labs and they are outside dogs and I have an outside cat, I used to have an inside cat but she died last year, she was about 18 years old. You have quite an assortment of animals and I think most of us here have more than just birds, we are all mostly animal lovers, my grandson has 3 gerbils and my granddaughters have 2 hamsters.

Hello Carol and welcome to our family, we are so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about your and Cookie. That is about typical of an older bird coming to a new to him home, there is a honeymoon phase that when its over the true personality comes out but I see from your post you have worked thru that and now he is well adjusted and fitting in nicely. What were the circumstances that you came to acquire Cookie, I know he came off Craiglist but why were his former owners finding a new home for him? Just curious to know. Is this your first grey, first parrot? Do you have any other birds or pets? You will find lots of useful information in our many threads and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. Thanks for including a pic of Cookie in your introduction post, we usually have to ask for we love to admire each other's greys here.

Now that we have the tree out of the way Carol, why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome and introduction room and tell us some more about you and your grey Cookie.
-
Then I must have good luck too for my car has bird poop on it all the time, never heard of that saying before.
-
Well if he loves to chew wood then by all means get him an untreated 2 by 4 and cut it up into pieces and let him chew on them to his heart's content but you do need to identify any tree you would want to use and the list I provided the link to just has the safe woods but does not identify the tree, maybe you can ask around to see if any neighbors have some knowledge to identifying trees.
-
Oh well for $7.00 they make greyt toys:laugh: :woohoo:
-
I hope you don't really care about those curtains because I think they aren't going to last too long with his shenigans, what a character.
-
I think Dan means he used the clenched fist as in a grey has more trouble getting ahold of the flesh when the hand is clenched into a fist and he means that his grey either stepped up on that clenched fist or got pushed off the fridge by that clenched fist.
-
Hi Carol, I don't know what type of tree that is but I can share a link to a site that gives the safe trees you can take branches from to use for chew toys and/or perches and playstands, hope it helps. http://www.mdvaden.com/bird_page.shtml

That sounds about right Dan, Dixie probably just wanted you to play with her and not read an old book, thats no fun. These are all great conversations you all are having with your greys, Josey and I never have anything remotely as cute as the ones shared, thanks.
-
Hannah I would love the same thing with Josey but she just doesn't like being on her back and so I have to respect that, some do and some don't. I have one consolation though, my sun conure will lay upsidedown in my hand and I didn't have to teach her that, she will just lay there when I put her on her back.
-
They did and she always referred to them as the gentle giants but man they could make a mess and crack brazil nuts with their beaks, certainly capable of much damage if they wanted.
-
Bonek doesn't look too wet after but his beak is clean and it was kinda messy on the first pic, thanks for sharing his bath time with us, now go clean up the mess he made:laugh: :woohoo:

Thanks Maggie for those, yes you have to look quick or you miss it but I know with determination you will get a better one, quite a little character you have.
