  1. There is no guarantee that a particular grey will choose you and some have even brought home a grey that changed its favorite person to someone other than the one who purchased it in the first place. You just have to accept what you are given and do your best to bond with your bird but it should be socialized with all members of the household so it doesn't become a one person bird.
  2. Hello Rita and welcome to our family. You have come to the right place looking for people who love and care for their greys so you are in good company here. Be sure to share some pictures of Pepper for we want to see him/her.
  3. Beth, did you take Radar in to see the vet about his beak today, please update us on what you found out.
  4. So sorry to hear of your cancer but do not worry about Dayo for she understands more than what we give them credit for, she can tell you are not feeling well hence she sat by your side as in comforting you with her presence. When the time comes to go for your surgery just explain what is happening and that you will be back soon with her.
  5. When they stand on one foot they usually ball up the other one, it gives it a rest, this is all normal.
  6. We all love Felix and they are right on.
  7. That is a long time to be away and especially when she was still so young but you will just have to start over from square one and take your time and be very patient with her for in her eyes she is not sure you will not go away again and she is punishing you for your absence. The others have given you some excellent advice, you have your work cut out for you but it will be worth it. Like Dee says grey time is not measured on a calendar and what works for one may not work for another so hang in there and work at gaining her trust again.
  8. I work full time and my 3 come out when I get home, they are usually playing on their cage top or sitting on my shoulder while I do things, on the weekends they are out more but not all day. I try to make the most of when I am home to spend quality time with all 3 and one on one so they get equal time, no favorites here. As you can see from someone who is retired and home most of the day they still do not have their fids out all day, it is best if you do not work that they spend some time in their cage even if you are home, to play by themselves and not be dependent on you for their entertainment for the time comes you may not be able to be at home and then they suffer if used to being out all day. If you think more in terms of quality of time spent with your fids versus quantity of time it will be a happier household.
  9. Greys are known for being one of the quietest of the parrots.
  10. Hello Amanda and welcome to our family. You will learn a lot from the members here and in the meantime read thru as many of the threads as possible for there is a wealth of helpful information to be gleaned from them and ask those questions you may have. I look forward to seeing some pictures of Petri when you get the chance to share them.
  11. Those last two toys would be a hit for greys as they like toys that make noise, I recently bought one that had metal measuring cups hanging from it.
  12. I haven't seen that sign but I love it.

    Juice?

Thanks Wingy, I hadn't thought about vegetable juices as when juice is mentioned we think of fruit, good point Wingy.

    Juice?

I agree with Talon, juice has too much sugar in it to offer so much, it is an occasional treat at my house with a few sips the limit.
  15. Hello GreyG and welcome to our family. I am from Virginia also and I see you are in the Virginia Beach area, I know there are a couple of bird clubs down that way, do you belong to one of them? I see you have a nice selection of fids and I have to agree that we all seem to have gotten some pretty rotten eggs but we wouldn't trade them for anything. Zoey is adorable with those dark eyes, love those baby greys and thanks for including pictures in your intro post, saves us from having to ask for them.
  16. Gosh you would think that someone had come in and replaced the grey you called Gilbert with this new wonderful one but he had it in him all along, he just needed the patience from someone willing to put in the time to bring it out of him. Now that's a thought, what if he turns out to be a she, we have all referred to him as a he for so long could we get used to her if it turns out that way, well I guess if you can we certainly should be able to, heres to Gilbert or Gilly or even Gerta, hear hear.
  17. Ouch, you know some people just should have never been allowed to procreate, that has redneck written all over it.
  18. Beth, I don't mean to be critical but this is exactly why baby birds should be weaned before they are sent home, too many things can go wrong. I would be disappointed with this breeder too as an excellent one would have never sent you home with an unweaned bird in the first place, shame on them. Please stay in close touch with your avian vet until Echo is out of danger and keep us updated, I do hope he will be just fine.
  19. He/she probably more resembles Sid Vicious when in the bite mode. Ouch!!
  20. Huey, why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us all about Huey.
  21. I like how you make even the stand itself out of grapevines, interesting looking and how steady is it in use? Wouldn't want my grey to fly to it and it topple over.
  22. I-64 runs from inside the state limits of Virginia up thru Charleston and further west, we used to take that and then get on I-77 at Charleston to go to Parkersburg where my son used to live and that's no where near Morgantown which is much further northeast. I have heard about the Hatfields and McCoys but wasn't sure where they were from, now I know. If people want to see beautiful mountains they should give the state of WV a visit as you won't be disappointed and the interstates take you up and down them.
  23. What a sweet little baby eclectus and hatched on my birthday, how about naming him Paddy.
  24. I like this answer because its true, there are no bad greys.
  25. Very well said Dave, No 1 bird must stay No 1 meaning first fed, first out of cage, first spoken to and so forth or that green monster appears.
