  1. I presently use the premium blend from www.drsfostersmith.com, it comes in formulations for different sized birds but I think that most well known brand names of seed mix is good quality, just look at the ingredients lists. Josey eats Harrison's High Potency pellets, that's the only one she has been offered since I have had her and she eats it readily.
  2. Better days are ahead for you if you keep this positive attitude, you go girl.
  3. Dee you always seem to know exactly what to say to people who are struggling with life's problems, the reply you made to Chezron is right on and if that doesn't make her feel better then nothing else will. People who are going thru a divorce especially the one being dumped on usually feel like they are worthless and have failed like she feels but I think with all our help she will come thru this feeling a lot better about herself and her fids will be a big comfort to her, she will be glad she didn't let them go. I just wanted to say thank you for your words of encouragement.

  4. Django is adorable, what a sweetie, I don't see a stuffed animal in his cage so why not put one in he can snuggle with, at this age they are used to being with clutchmates and it serves as a security blanket until they start perching. Thanks for sharing those videos with us.
  5. This scratching is something they all do especially when they are young, mine still does it from time to time and she is 7 1/2 years old, she wants out of the cage but just ignore it for as you have already seen she stops after a few minutes and goes back to playing.
  6. I am so sorry this has happened to you but you are not alone as many many more are happening as we speak, divorce is so commonplace nowadays but you will get thru it with the help of your fids, your soon to be ex is the loser although he may not realize it right now, what a sorry mess his situation is but he deserves it. We are all here for you any time you need us, some have offered to get in touch with you to talk and if you need it then do it for sometimes talking it out with someone else is what you need to put things in proper perspective and you have family and friends who will be a great help to you but you are not alone.
  7. Hello Incubus and welcome to our family. Ruby is adorable and yes they are so cute at this age, I love their dark eyes. Please feel free to indulge us with more pictures if you like, we never get enough especially at this age.
  8. I hear ya and remember when I was waiting for my grey, don't worry it will be here soon so just use this time to make sure you have everything you need and read, read and read some more of the threads here for excellent advice.
  9. Jen you have your work cut out for you but Dave has given you some excellent advice, remember it takes time and lots of patience when working with rehomes.
  10. Sounds good and like Karen said don't worry too much about Smokey not eating pellets, as long as he has a varied diet with plenty of vegetables he will get what he needs.
  11. You will be betraying her more if you leave the eggs for her to get disinterested in since she has shown no signs of doing so, Dave knows his stuff as he is a breeder of greys and a pet grey lover so trust his advice. I know tough love is difficult but sometimes its necessary for the well being of the animal or human it involves. My grey is 7 1/2 years old and she has never laid any eggs but she did act different one day when browsing underneath her cage as she does occasionally she would come out at me all puffed up and charge at me to bite when I came close, I found there was a small whiffle ball about the size of a golf ball under the cage and I guess she was either being possessive of it or was protecting it as if it was an egg. I promptly got it out using a long stick and took it away from her, end of problem as she went back to being her old self.
  12. I am as puzzled as you are and you did good by making an appointment with your vet to see whats up, looks like something is amiss, of course you will keep us posted as usual.
  13. That really is adorable, thanks for sharing it with us.

    Honey?

Dan is right, they can get food all over their beak but they tend to keep it off their feathers and be prepared to receive wipes on your shirt, the furniture or whatever is handy when they decide to get that food sticking to their beaks off.
  15. I only have one snuggler and that's my sun conure, my grey does not like cuddling and pretty much never has, some people have all the luck though so enjoy it if you have a snuggler.
  16. Cotay is saying "I am woman, hear me roar" now you better pay attention to me!
  17. Yes he should have been weaned by the breeder before he came home with you but that's all water under the bridge now so do whatever the vet recommends and to ensure Echo gets enough food give him as much as he will eat, in fact increase the feedings if necessary until he is well enough to resume eating on his own. This is a valuable lesson albeit an expensive one for not allowing yourself to be talked into bringing a baby bird home before it is completely weaned but I hope all turns out well for the little fella, keep us informed please. Don't beat yourself up as you are not the first this has happened to nor will it be the last but maybe others will see this and not be tempted to bring an unweaned baby home.
  18. Koko is gorgeous even if she does have some bare spots, thanks for sharing a picture of her with us.
  19. I look forward to seeing some pictures of Koko when you get the chance to share them with us.
  20. Even though they are flock animals they do enjoy some alone time and I notice that especially as they mature, they become somewhat independent and like some time to themselves much like me at times.
  21. Thanks Beth, we worry about each other's birds as we are all family in a way here at greyforum, hope speaking with your vet will allay any fears you may have had.
  22. Shamrock is such a cutie pie, he is adorable, thanks for sharing the pictures with us.
  23. Congrats on Smokey being a boy but does it really make any difference, well at least you won't have to worry about eggs.
  24. I don't care if it gets bitterly cold as long as we have some snow with it, I am stocked up on wood so we would stay warm and we have plenty of food in the house. Some places has been very dry but we have had a wet summer, usually our grass is dry and brown this time of year but we have had to mow the grass all summer, its nice and green. And like Vstar Mama a very cold winter kills lots of insects.
  25. Your best bet is to find local bird clubs that may have members who might be interested in adopting Pepper when the time comes, I know this weighs on us older folks because our greys will outlive us and my family is not interested in taking Josey in when I pass on.
