  1. It doesn't really seem like a growl to me, more of like a burping sound and I don't see any fear in the eyes either, interesting sound and I hope you get it figured out.
  2. Congrats on your boy, yes you won't have to worry about egg laying with a male and the name fits.
  3. If you want dried corn then you usually just leave it in the husks and allow it to air dry, that's the way the farmers do when they want ear corn or shelled corn for feed, they leave it on the stalks until it dries enough to harvest it. If you have a shed or somewhere to hang it up to dry preferably somewhere where squirrels cannot get to it for they will eat it up if they find it.
  4. They do have quite a personality in a small package but I love the one I got even if she can't sing or whistle, who knows maybe one day another one will drop into my backyard and be able to sing or whistle, stranger things have happened.
  5. Congrats Karen on your new grandson, I remember when my first one was born, a very special time in a mom's life and dad's too, you will spoil him rotten then give him back to his parents, that's the part I love about being a grandma, looks like a proud grandpa there too.
  6. That's a very nice picture of all your birds and quite a feat to get them all sitting nice, what did you bribe them with jk and they all look happy but wondering what all the fuss was about, hope you rewarded them all for their effort, thanks for sharing that with us.

    RIP Cesar

I am so sorry to hear of your loss of Cesar, you must be devastated but your pain will be less and less as time goes by, just remember the good times you had with him and know he loved you very much.
  8. What a cutie pie, wish my tiel would sing but I think I have a female and they don't whistle or sing, thanks for sharing that with us Penny.
  9. I don't have a problem with my fids going in their cage but then they don't come out in the mornings either as I don't have time to have them loose. I do feel for you Penny and shame on Nilah for biting you, sounds like it has become a game and she loves it.
  10. Here is just fine as it is your grey but you can also put pictures in the photography room as Dave mentioned, its your call. Romeo is adorable and I too like that last picture, it really makes you take notice of him, thanks for sharing them with us.
  11. I doubt your grey is plucking as they all preen from time to time, a grey has to look good you know, only if you start seeing feathers with the shaft broken off or lots of feathers laying around and bald spots on your grey will it be considered plucking but as long as you are providing the things necessary to keep your grey happy and healthy then don't worry about possible plucking for they can sense stress, just keep doing what you are doing and he will be fine.
  12. Kevin, Dave is yanking your chain, pulling your leg or in other words he is joking with you and he is good at this, this is a fun subject so take his comments with a grain of salt for you disrupted no one dinner.
  13. Loki is adorable and outside soaking up some sunshine, I see he is clipped but you should still be careful of having him outside without being on a harness, better to be safe than sorry, thanks for sharing the pictures with us.
  14. Exactly Dee, you said it very well.
  15. I love chicken and I have killed many in my lifetime especially when I was a kid helping my mother, I actually chopped off the heads and plucked them but gutting them is the worst part.
  16. Maybe we can properly name ourselves animal lovers for I have to say that most or close to all of us have more than just our bird or birds, we have a mixture of dogs and/or cats, some have snakes, lizards, rats, mice, horses and other domesticated animals and maybe some not so domesticated like our greys. I think for the most part most of us wouldn't label ourselves as just bird lovers but we are companion lovers and choose to share our home with parrots and birds along with a dog or cat or whatever else sparks our fancy.
  17. I too have been beaked many times but not a bite like those posted, mine have never drawn blood.
  18. Well lets put it this way, you never give a name to what you plan to eat.
  19. That look is as if he is saying "My nap is over with and so is yours so get up buddy"
  20. Oh definitely, they love for you to come by close enough they can lean out and grab a chunk of flesh, thats a greyt game for them, score one for Pooka.
  21. I guess most of the rest of the members find the same thing but when I play someone else's video of an african grey my grey just listens intently for she knows thats another grey making sounds.
  22. I have always been a cat person but only have one at the moment though I feed one more, outside cat, I have also had dogs most of my life though right now we do not, when we lost our last one I thought since I had the birds for companionship I didn't need another mouth to feed but we have been tempted a time or two. I guess it does depend on where you live whether or not to have dogs or any other kind of pet for that matter but Kevin I am glad you got Sukei and just because you don't have a dog right now doesn't mean you are not a dog person, I totally agree with your reasoning. I know that other cultures do eat things we find repulsive, dogs, cats, birds and whatever else so I don't blame you for not having a dog right now but some people might be repulsed by some of the things I eat like rabbits, squirrels, doves, ducks, geese, wild turkey and deer but then I live in the country and was brought up that way, I know some people have never seen what they eat when alive on 4 legs or 2 in some cases.
  23. Sometimes I am envious of them napping in the afternoon, wish I could do that but maybe when I retire I will join them for that, mine go to bed at around 9 to 9:30 when I cover them up and then they are up at before 7 am, somewhat later on the weekends.
  24. Hello Daniel and welcome to our family. So glad you hung in there and finally got registered as a member but the important thing is you are here now. Pooka is a handsome fella from the pictures you shared with us, have you had him since he was just a baby?
  25. You are making good progress with Paco but you may have rushed it a bit and so you got the bite, back off a little and take it slower but above all things don't take it personally.
