  1. Well she certainly rules your heart Ray, she is a sweetie.
  2. Posting permissions at very bottom of page.
  3. Long, I think not, we are gonna love hearing about Inara.
  4. Hello Spiersy and welcome to our family. Congrats on your new baby grey and he is a cutie from the picture you shared with us, be sure to browse thru the threads for lots of information and ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can.
  5. Hello Carrie and welcome to our family. So glad to hear you are giving your grandmother's grey a new forever home, the others have given you some good advice so I won't add anything at this time but just wanted to say hello.
  6. We should all be so lucky to have a grey like yours that enjoys the shower, wish mine did, why not share a picture of Sully right after a shower as we all love wet greys.
  7. Seems you have a lot of questions to ask the current owner of this grey and believe me it will all come in handy in the coming weeks and months after you bring this grey home and I will add to ask if they kept a copy of all the vet visits with tests and procedures done, a complete medical record.
  8. You have two cute dogs and I am guessing that Bacon loves bacon, am I right?
  9. That was not a growl, sounds like Misty was having some fun with you and the camera, she is a sweetie pie.
  10. Hi Spiersy, why not tell us more about your new grey, name and so forth and include some pictures for we love to see the babies.
  11. Congrats on your soon to be addition to the flock, I look forward to seeing some pictures of this blue crowned conure baby when you get some to share with us.
  12. I have never experienced a bad bite from any of my birds even Josey my grey, she has beaked me and applied pressure a few times but never breaking the skin so I don't really know what I would do if she clamped down and held on grinding in deeper but she would definitely know I was displeased with her behavior.
  13. Back in May I have been here 6 years, in fact I came in just a couple of days after Penny joined in 2007, you have been a wonderful asset to the forum helping others with their problems or just being there to listen, here is hoping you are here many more years to come. Karen in answer to your question I think the forum has been around since about 2000 or so but maybe Penny can give us a more accurate number.
  14. If it sounds too good to be true then its probably not, glad you realized it before it was too late.

    New baby

Congrats on your new baby and yes it is normal for them to beak your fingers but it should be discouraged for it could turn harder and break the skin, my grey did this too and licked my skin in the process. I would be worried about that scab so do take him to see an avian vet as soon as possible for he may need some meds to help take care of it, you can put some 100% aloe vera jel on it for the time being, it won't hurt him if he ingests any of it.
  16. Hello Bubbas Mom and welcome to our family. Thanks for giving this Tag a new forever home and I am assuming you are new to greys. You have to understand this is an adult bird with an established personality, he is an individual that may have issues he brought with him, you did not provide any other information about how you came to get him or any of his past if you know any but it would be helpful to us if you could tell us more about him. When taking in a grey or any bird that has been in a previous home or homes as it sometimes is you have to take it slow and easy, he may not want to be touched at this point, some of us have greys we don't handle very much as it depends on the individual bird, they usually want to be near us but not be touched very much and you have to respect that. For now keep your fingers out of his cage, if his cage is like most of ours you can give him food and water without sticking your hands inside and most have a tray you can pull out to change whatever you put down to catch the poops and food they throw out. You can sit near his cage and talk to him softly, tell him how pretty he is and just talk about whatever you want to, you can even read to him but you are showing him you are not a threat to him. Let him decide when he is ready for any type of interaction, this may take a while and I am talking weeks, months or even years but it is what you have to do to gain his trust, that must be earned and an adult grey will be set in his ways. If you can find out more about his past it will help immensely in dealing with him but patience is your best friend right now.
  17. I think its unanimous that we all love Cricket's purring sound and it only proves that she is the apple of daddy's eyes.
  18. Congrats on your new addition, you have a big heart Val so thanks for giving Chloe a new fresh start, poor dear may not ever get over being used as a breeder but with the help of those who have gone thru similar situations I am sure she will overcome most of her problems and I know you have the patience it takes. She is a cute little dog and its a shame they are treated this way just for the purpose of having puppies to sell, shameful and its why I never bought one from such places. I have no experience with what you are dealing with but do know there are several members who are skilled at it so hopefully they will give you some good advice.
  19. I say go for it now, adopt as there are so many in need of a new forever home and since the move won't happen for a year or more the bird will have plenty of time to adjust to a new home, as long as you make it as pleasant an experience as possible.
  20. There is no set age to bring a baby grey home but its the right time when the baby is fully weaned and eating on its own, no one should ever bring an unweaned baby home for there is too many things that can go wrong if you don't know what you are doing. Some greys will be weaned early and some later, it depends on the individual grey, hope that answers your question.
  21. Now that I think about it a little more I think each grey has their own unique way of communicating, my grey does something like a chicken cluck sound, I paid it no attention as she has done it since I brought her home over 7 years ago but when my UK friend visited me she asked me about it, I think it is just her acknowledgement to me.
  22. The fact that the feather loss was not symmetrical was a clue to ask your vet and you found out she suffered a trauma, it happens sometimes but she should recover from it soon, good thing you took her in, poor dear but she will be fine.
  23. Josey is not afraid of any one particular color but if you bring something large or new into the room where she is on her playtop she will take flight, sometimes even a sudden noise will spook her and if one of the other birds spooks first she follows their lead.
  24. As bird lovers we are a special kind of person, we are poop watchers, I doubt any other animal group is as vigilant in poop watching as we are but no tasting, heavens no.
  25. I have planted pineapple tops before and had a nice plant growing but they tend to have sharp spikes on the ends of the fronds that stick you if you get near but it never produced a fruit, it spread out so much I tossed it outside.
