1. Well give him a cracker on the computer, what a ham. B)
2. Thanks so much Dan for sharing that with us, loved it, the photos were superb.
3. What a great shot of Alfie, thanks for sharing that with us Lyn. Most of us use photobucket to upload our photos and then copy and paste the link, please reread the thread on posting pics on the forum.
4. I can imagine the trip to the vet will be stressful but I doubt it will cause any set back, once he is back home he should soon be back to his normal self, Josey does not care for visits to the vet either but she is fine right after she gets home. Please do let us know when you find out anything.
5. That is so great to hear Lyn and you deserve it too, you have hung in there when Alfie was lapping it up on David and now she is warming up more to you, you can sing her praises any day, glad to hear it.
6. Thats great Ashley, it just took some time for him to get used to it but I bet he will enjoy it more as time goes on, can't wait to see the pictures.
7. I allow Josey to sit on my shoulder, it is just natural for them to want to go to a higher point and the shoulder provides that. If you do not want your bird there then you just have to keep removing him, using the other arm to block his path. Josey behaves herself when she shoulder sits but she knows she will get some neck scratches when she goes up there. I do not wear any earrings when at home because that is the first thing they will go after and I don't want them ripped from my ear.:pinch: Josey has somewhat gotten the balance down when sitting on my shoulder and I move around, I can't do any quick turning but she stays on while I walk around the house, yours will too as he ages.
8. I was hoping your post was of good news but I see you still haven't found Sindbad, I hope he is safe wherever he is and that you find him very soon but please don't give up on him. I pray that he is found soon.
9. Its great to hear from you again and I certainly understand how life can get so busy you don't have time for everything but congrats on getting you a cockatiel, I am sure you are going to be very happy with him. I have never had one but they are very pretty, would love to see a picture when you get the chance.
10. When Yoshi calls for you call back to her to let her know you are still around but she just can't see you, that way it is reassuring to her but you can't come to her at that moment, sometimes that is all they want is to know where you are. As far as that band around her leg I would consider having the vet remove it especially if she is picking at it, could be irritating her in some way.
11. I enjoyed them too and you have such great subjects to work with, thanks for sharing them with us.
12. I did and love them all, thanks for sharing them with us.
13. Mine are molting too, in fact Sunny seems to molt all the time on her head, she always has some pins sticking out but spring is a ways away yet, still have lots of winter left.
14. These are beautiful birds, love that red cap on the head and that lilac coloring behind the eyes, you have came up with another beauty, thanks for sharing it.
15. She is a little cutie and right now she is snuggling up to my neck as I type, Josey is nearby on her playstand.
16. It does take a while for all those flights to grow out, believe me I know first hand but you can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel and it won't be long now and you will see some flight time.
17. I would supervise all time that both of them are out together, they were on their best behavior to begin with but you have to be sure they do get along well. Greys especially are not usually sociable with other species of birds sometimes not even with their own kind. I have a grey and a sun conure and I cannot have them on the same playstand, they are out at the same time but not close to one another. Of course my grey does not fly, she has trimmed the feathers on one wing so she pretty much stays where I put her. My grey will still do that scratching and sometimes it is not when she is in the cage, sometimes when she is out and she sees me nearby and wants to come near me she will do that, it usually is a begging thing but not anything to worry about. Some birds will sleep on the highest point in their cage as others are content to stay on the bottom, some even enjoy retiring in little birdie huts but if he sleeps on the bottom and is fine with it then that is all that matters.
18. The Red-tailed Amazon Parrot (Amazona brasiliensis) is endemic to South-eastern Brazil. Nowadays they are only found in a few coastal areas in states of Sao Paulo and Parana. Previously, its range extended from southeast Sao Paulo to Rio Grande do Sul. Its natural habit includes atlantic forests and mangrove areas. Habitat destruction, hunting and trapping for the pet trade has caused this parrot to join the long list of critically endangered parrots. In 1991-92, the population had fallen below 2000 individuals. Following on-going conservation efforts, the most recent estimate suggests a population of around 6600. The Red-tailed Amazon usually measure around 14 - 14.8 ins (~35 - 37 cm) in length (including tail) and weigh around 15 oz or 425 g. The plumage is mostly green, except for the following: •The forehead and lores (the regions between the eyes and bill on the side of a bird's head) are dull red and the crown, and the nape is rose-red edged bluish-lilac. •The chin and cheeks pinkish-blue. •The ear-coverts dull violet-blue and the edge of wing is red. •The secondaries green becoming dark blue towards tips and the outer webs to outer tail-feathers are blue. •The tail green with greenish-yellow tips and they have a broad red band across the tail. •The bill is horn-colored with grey tips, the irises are orange red and their feet grey. Immatures have less red to the forehead and have a duller plumage. Their irises are dark.

Post edited by: judygram, at: 2010/01/24 17:40
19. Those amazons are real characters it seems, makes me want one but two birds is my limit for now so I will just admire the ones on this forum. I really do enjoy the stories you all have to tell about these creatures and I can't wait to see some pics of Paddy.
20. A lot of birds do that and one of yours may have started doing it and the other one followed, both of mine do it occasionally, we call it making birdie soup. Maybe they like it wet or they think it needs washing off, who knows but some here change their bird's water several times a day because of it.
21. Here is one photo I took with my blackberry, it turned out fairly well, thought I would share it with you all.

23. Greys can have bad days just like we sometimes do and we need to respect the fact that they may not want to be handled and touched like always, the proof is in the statement that he is back to his old self. Keep that in mind the next time he acts that way. More frequent sprayings and higher humidity will help with the pin feathers and make him feel more comfortable.
24. OMG Dan that looks and sounds serious, I initially thought of air sacs but I am no vet either and when we don't know it is best left for the bird to be seen by an avian vet, we can only guess. I haven't noticed it on Josey but Sunny my conure does have a place on her neck that doesn not have any feather follicles in it, I thought it was a place that was missing them, you know a defect but maybe it was never meant to have feathers there. You can't tell it is there unless you more the feathers back and look, it is invisible otherwise.
25. Hello Martin and welcome to our family, so glad you found us and we look forward to hearing more about you, Rocky and Paddy. Greys will sometimes pick a favorite person and just tolerate the other members of the family but I bet the orange wing is the more sociable member of the flock. Do browse thru our many threads for lots of useful information and ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. We love pictures here so if you have some of Rocky and Paddy you would share with us that would be great.
