  1. My ovens are over 25 years old, they are built in and are not self cleaning so I have to use some elbow grease to remove spills but putting some baking soda on it will help with cleanup. I have replaced the elements but not the ovens themselves, I don't think I would go for self cleaning ones anyways if and when I have to replace mine.
  2. I don't see why it wouldn't be. Are you going to try to get a baby grey or are you going to look into rescuing or rehoming a grey? There are many out there that people thought they wanted but when they find out how much time and attention they require they give them up or maybe an owner can't care for it any longer due to health problems.
  3. I think he is just so happy to be in his new home he is savoring the moment or he could be taking a rest but you don't mind do you, I wouldn't, enjoy it for it may not last. Its great to hear he had a good first night and I look forward to hearing more about your "discoveries" with Marley.
  4. Hello Clare and welcome to our family, we would be delighted to have you join the ranks of grey ownership and an african grey may just fit into your program you are about to undertake. My you have a lot of reptiles and you do know of course that you would have to wash your hands thoroughly after handling the reptiles and before touching your grey, will require some dilligence on your part but it is necessary for the health and well being of your grey. You havecome to the right place looking for information and to talk to other grey owners and get their opinions and of course we will help you in any way we can.
  5. Now that is funny but so true, thanks Dave for that!
  6. She is very inquisitive checking out the office but she is having a good time, it is so great that you can take her so many places and she does just fine, thanks for sharing them with us. One pic in particular she looks like she is praying, how sweet!
  7. It must be a hoot right now at your house, I would love to hear that conversation between Rambo and Kookie, you must be sitting back in awe of this going on around you, bet you will be sorry when Rambo leaves in a few days.
  8. I came here over 3 years ago in need of information on my grey and to participate in conversations with other like people, bird people, no one else understands us like we here do and I can ask questions and give my opinions on other's questions. I have made some good friends here that extend beyond being just bird chats and hope that continues for the remainder of my days here on this earth. I could read books and have read a lot of them but it isn't the same as coming here and bouncing a question off other grey owners for a lot of them may have experienced the same thing with their grey, I can get their opinions and we have some very knowledgeable people here who I trust to give me sound advice, people who are longtime grey owners and breeders, you can't get much better than that unless you go to an avian vet. I agree that occasionally some negativity shows its ugly head but I think most of us get past that and get along very well with one another, we are all individuals and as such we have a diverse set of emotions and feelings but we do have to remember why we came here in the first place and that is our birds and namely our greys. I think admin namely Penny steps in when the negativity gets out of hand and gets the board back to its main purpose and that is the welfare of each other's greys, they are first and foremost and the rest of us take a back seat.
  9. Hello Daniel and welcome to our family, I am so glad to hear you could give Mezmo a new home, it seems you needed each other and the time was right, I believe that things happen for a reason and you both will be so blessed for it. I am so sorry about your previous grey and maybe one day you can share that story with us, maybe in the pet memorial room, you could honor him/her that way. That is so sad about his previous circumstances, another story you could tell us if you like, some people can be so stupid or maybe they have no conscience, in any case he has a good home now and is blossoming under your care and will continue to. He sounds like he is a wonderful grey and with more time he will continue to flourish and maybe allow some touching, as you well know the trust will come with time and you already know about that. We would love to see some pictures of Mezmo if you have some you would share with us.
  10. My greys beak looks more like dark charcoal most of the time but that is probably because of the dander but if you have any concerns just contact your avian vet and ask about it. In the meantime why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us some more about yourself and your grey.
  11. He is a handsome fella Caroline and I am sure with time he will gradually look better and better but the important thing is he is well taken care of, thanks for sharing a couple of pics of Tully.
  12. They are lovely Caroline and I really like that little "topknot" that one of them has in the first picture, I am guessing it is Keeko, they are so sweet looking and Jasper looks like the cuddle muffin you say he is, thanks for sharing the pictures with us.
  13. What a gorgeous bird, I love the color on the forehead of this one, what a beauty it is, of course I haven't seen one yet that wasn't beautiful. Thanks so much Jay for doing the weekly threads on the many species of the amazon parrot.
  14. This is weird replying to a thread that is dated in the future! Another bunch of lovely pictures of Cocoa on her playground visit and she does look stunning against that blue sky background, you are so lucky to have a grey that loves these outings and loves the camera too, thanks for sharing them with us.
  15. I bet by the time she leaves home she will be cured of her fear and you will have another bird owner or possibly a grey owner in the making, how sweet of Kopi to accommodate her that way.
  16. Yes we do have some late bloomers among us, my grey did not talk until she was a year old and yours is 13 months, it is way too soon to think you may have greys that will not talk, more than likely it will happen all of a sudden and then you might be thinking twice about what you wish for, nah no way! I have a sun conure that does not talk at all even though a lot of them do but I love her anyways.
  17. That is so precious that Alfie made the choice herself about the harness, she is smart enough to know that not wearing it means she is left behind and no way, what a hoot that must have been when she said that, thanks for sharing that with us Lyn.
  18. It might be an obvious conclusion but I am glad you are handy with tools and it looks like you did a great job on the bottom part and I can't wait to see the finished product, pics please!
  19. Nice pictures of Beau you have there Jules, he looks to be enjoying himself and if they aren't afraid of the camera then they want to find out what that thing is or eat it, he certainly is cute and thanks for sharing with us.
  20. Nice to hear from you again Dee, you have been missed and thanks for the great update on Kopi, glad to hear he is doing just fine. Thats cute about how Kopi stood his ground against Java, maybe they will learn to get along, my two do not bother each other unless they are both on my shoulder and then Sunny starts inching her way over to Josey to try to nip at her otherwise they do not pay any attention to what the other is doing. Thanks for sharing a picture of him with us, he is a handsome fella.
  21. They are great pictures of your baby, he is adorable Heather, thanks for sharing them with us and enjoy your new addition to the flock.
  22. Not too many things my grey eats that you don't see evidence of what she had but most any kind of pasta, rice or noodles disappear without a trace and cheddar cheese well forget about it, it is inhaled!
  23. She is out there somewhere and close I think, please continue to look for her and make sure any neighbors are on the lookout too, if she is spotted again do not leave her sight, you will get her back and soon.
  24. Congrats on bringing Marley home, now the real fun begins but it sounds like it is off to a good start, remember never to leave him out of his cage if the dogs are present but then you knew that already didn't you. I can't wait to see some pictures when you get around to it.
  25. Well congrats on bringing him home and please do take your time with him, let him settle in and feel comfortable in his new home, he will let you know when he is ready for more interaction so just don't force anything. It does sound promising already as he is whistling and making some noises and that is a good sign. If we could trouble you for some pictures please and what is his name?
