  1. Thats the best idea I have heard yet!
  2. I know that some of you UK members get your stuff from Northern Parrot as I have seen it mentioned, just another suggestion.
  3. You have to understand that any kind of reaction to the annoying noise is drama for him, you need to just say and do nothing to the ones you want to lessen, just think about it, any kind of reaction whether it is vocal, physical or anything it is entertainment and cause for him to continue, just make no reaction at all. I know this is hard to do but it must be done if you want him to do it less and he will, he may not stop it completely but it will be less and less. Always encourage what you want to continue to hear him say. You will continue to see changes in his personality as he unpacks and settles in but he is a bird and he is doing what birds do.
  4. The honeymoon is over and now Francis is showing more of his personality which is not always desirable but it is part of living with a parrot. All birds make noise and greys are masters of mimicing sounds and the only way to deal with unwanted ones is to ignore it, no reaction to it at all because he will consider the drama of upsetting your husband as entertainment. This is where we separate the men from the boys to coin a phrase but you must not react in any way to the offending noise he is making and this will be difficult but with time it will lessen but do make sure you praise lavishly the noises he makes that you like. When he makes contact calls answer him and tell him you are nearby, he is just reassuring himself that you haven't left him, remember he is new to your home, it takes a long time for him to fully unpack and feel comfortable but please do not give up on him, he has already been in a former home and the last thing he needs is to have to adjust to yet another one, give him more time and I think you will end up with a happier parrot and family.
  5. Josey is 4 years old today May 25, my how time flies when you are having fun. She is the delight of my life and I couldn't imagine my life without her. She will be getting special treats and probably a little sliver of cheddar cheese for she will go nuts for that. I will try to get a picture to share this evening of my darling Josey, love you lots.
  6. I got mine from an online website but many members here have gotten theirs at Walmart.
  7. Have you weighed your baby Mawnee? It does seem like you do have a large boned grey and some of them can go to 600 grams or more, my thats a big grey!
  8. If he won't leave your ear alone then you will have to discontinue his shoulder privileges, some greys can sit on shoulders and not bother the face or any part of the head and some just want to nibble or bite whatever they fancy and if he is determined to have a piece of your ear then he more than likely will do so in the near future. When he tries to go for the shoulder take the other arm and block him and vice versa, it will take a while for him to get the message but if you have concerns about your ear staying in one piece then you must make the decision to keep him off so he can't get to it.
  9. I think you have already chose your grey, you said the big one seems to follow you so the choice has been made, now all you need is a name.
  10. I am so glad the other mother came forward with some food and bedding and she needs to take a more active part of her baby's life and give you the help you are gonna need in the coming weeks, now is the time for her to pitch in and be a great help to you. The babies are becoming more active and will be awake more and getting into everything to explore their new world. I can just see you playing with them and having such a good time, keep up the great work.
  11. Josey loves a good chicken bone too and it is sort of scarey hearing them crack that bone open to get that marrow inside, too bad you didn't get a pic of it but maybe next time, Josey would leave the bone in little pieces, thanks for sharing that with us.
  12. Aww come on Lyn we all know what you look like and we like seeing you with Alfie, at least one or two every now and then just to appease us pleasssssssssssssssssssssssssseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!

    DUUHHH LoL

Whatever works Bonnie, he just prefers dining in instead of dining out, I just bet it was like a light bulb went on in your head, sometimes it is the simpliest things!
  14. You are so right, you have to be comfortable with that Bonnie and you will know when and if that should happen. I am starting to see some signs that Josey is being a little hormonal, she is becoming sexually aware and I think she grabs my fingers with her foot trying to get me to touch her on her back and I won't do it, she hasn't quite started the drooping wings thing or panting yet but it won't be long.
  15. When you explain it like that it makes perfect sense to have food available so birds can eat when they are hungry and since they rarely overeat then there is no problem, I have never handfed a baby bird but I certainly know who to come to for advice if the opportunity ever presents itself, many thanks for this thread Jay.
  16. They lose their flight and tail feathers on a staggering basis and not at a regular molt so they are still capable of flight, they will lose a few and then they grow back and then they lose a few more and this goes on continually so don't worry when you see a couple of big feathers or some of those pretty red tail ones, they will return.
  17. One of the vets I took Josey to recommended putting a collar on her because she was chewing on the feathers on one wing but I just didn't feel right about it so she still hasn't worn one but it looks like she may be doing ok without it, hopefully she will be taking flight soon.
  18. I know that feeling well and it is very exciting to think that soon Kodi will be home with you to start a lifetime of learning about each other and starting a love affair that will never end, you are in for a big treat, thanks for sharing that with us.
  19. Oh I so wish you could get Michael to get a video of that please!!!
  20. I will always see a plus sign next to your name when we are both on and you mine.
  21. That will be awesome Howardine and I know it will be so much to you and Precious for you have missed her terribly and she you, I pray you have a safe flight and the reunion is better than you expect it to be, take care and get on when you can.
  22. We don't care how "old" you are but do tell us more about you and about your grey, how many, how old, names and whatever else you want to share.
  23. I love it when the members can take their grey out on their harness for some fresh air and sunshine and those are typical reactions to seeing them, you can certainly pick out non bird people, they stand out like a sore thumb, greys are one of the most beautiful of the avian community in my opinion.
  24. Hang in there Bonnie as it will get better but it just takes time but you are offering him some great stuff and he will come around, yes please do have a go at sprouting and make enough for you to enjoy, its not just "bird food"
  25. You must be a pet magnet Tanya because that cat prefers you it seems over your neighbor but right now you don't need that with the babies being out when you play with them, looking forward to hearing how the babies are today.
