  1. I like this plan better than the previous one of leaving Lucy at work overnight, not a good idea but this will work and you will have one of your birds at work with you every day, you can alternate on the fifth day with one going one week then the other the next week so they will get equal time. You probably will need to get a second travel cage if only for the reason if you ever had to evacuate the house for any reason, say fire or whatever you would have a cage for each bird to go in, everyone should have one cage per bird in the event it is ever needed in an emergency. I would love to see some pictures of Lucy if you have any new ones to share.
  2. Well Lucy it is but tell us more about her, how is she doing and where are those pictures you promised us, we want to see her.
  3. If she is a large boned grey then her weight is fine but I would get her off the sugar laden foods, she definitely doesn't need fruit every day, more veggies with some grains, legumes, some seeds and pellets. I usually leave pellets available at all times for my grey.
  4. I think we all have been "christened" by that method at one time or another and some more than once! Yes sometimes weaned babies do regress and if she wants the evening formula then by all means give it to her, in fact give it to her for as long as she wants it for it won't hurt her and she will let you know when she no longer needs it or wants it. Thats great that she took to a cooked mash and do offer her lots of fresh veggies too. If she doesn't like the Tops pellets then try another brand until you find one that she will eat for pellets do provide nutrition and should be a part of her daily diet.
  5. I have never hand fed a bird much less a grey but I would think the first thing in the morning before the first feed would be a good time, that way it is always with the same circumstances but I don't see the need to weigh before and after a feed just once a day is enough. It sounds like he is doing fine and playing with his food more than eating it but that will soon change as he progresses toward weaning, his weight makes him a robust sized grey, might be more of a large boned one. With a schedule like yours he should be well socialized and comfortable with changing environments, count yourself lucky to be able to take him with you while you work as many of us do not have that pleasure. I look forward to seeing some pictures of Rylie when you feel like sharing some with us.
  6. It is kinda funny how when you hear a new to you sound coming from your grey that what was that, then finally it comes to you and you are amazed at their ability to mimic any sound made, a sound so simple as water pouring from a pitcher or bottle into a glass. Hammco, I am sure if you really listen to the sounds and think you will figure out what he is mimicing and it could be anything!
  7. Oh it doesn't surprise me what they can mimic and it sounds so realistic, wonder what the next sound will be.
  8. Thanks for the update on Simon and he seems to be settling into his new home very nicely. You have to respect the fact that Simon may not want to be touched or petted at times and he likes to be able to make that choice for himself so go with his wishes just as we ourselves have times we don't want to be messed with, take his cues and read his body language and if he is not in the mood then try again later. What did the vet have to say about his plucking, it could be a well established habit by now and not much you can do to stop it. Like a human child they only want to eat junk food but keep offering the healthy choices and he may decide to eat some one day. All in all he seems to be adjusting to his new home quickly and has endeared himself into your hearts, you both are so blessed.
  9. Sometimes you have to be careful of what you wish for but wish granted!
  10. Jane is right, greys do go thru phases that they become little hellions but she will return to her normal behavior when this phase passes, your Diva is there just wait and see.
  11. Jill about said it all and you can't go wrong if you follow this advice.
  12. Now all you have to do is actually put it in as your signature but its cute and sparkly.
  13. Spence they don't call cockatoos "the velcro bird" for nothing, they like to attach themselves to their owners all hours of the day and they usually are very cuddly birds so that should not be a surprise to you. I don't know a lot about toos but I do know they are known for their loud piercing calls but I don't think putting him back into his cage is the answer, you might get some books on toos or search the internet for all the info you can find on them so you will know better how to handle and manage this bird.
  14. I am so happy that Sadie is such a sweetheart, she just needed the right person to bring it out of her, amazing how she can have such a turnaround in short time but with the right things provided for her she has blossomed into a delightful bird, I hope its always this way for you and Sadie.
  15. Gosh them are big eggs to come out of such a little bird, good luck Sanggay and I hope every one of them hatches, keep us updated.
  16. I bet her foot is sore and you are a good mommy to hold her toast for her while she ate, I hope it heals quickly and she can get back to her usual self.
  17. I like Ray's suggestion of putting some peroxide on it maybe heating it a little bit to warm it up since she hates anything cold but you can always call your avian vet to find out what he recommends. Poor Nilah but this was an accident waiting to happen when you have children in the house, let us know how she is this morning.
  18. My fids are in the family room and I cover all of them at night and always have, they know its time for bed when I get the covers in my hand and they generally quieten down and go to sleep.
  19. You could run a humidifier to make the air more moist but giving him the frequent showers will help, thats right no shampoo should ever be used on a bird or a hair dryer as it only makes the condition worse, thanks for letting us know and please do keep us informed.
  20. Depends on how many people work there that would be coming thru that area, I sometimes bring one of my fids to work with me but there are only a few people who work there so it is no problem.
  21. "Well it looks like everything is there but its good I checked" Babalu says, thanks for sharing that with us.
  22. If the tongue is a little red then that would conern me so in my opinion I would have him checked out by your avian vet but it does seem like something is irritating him on his tongue, let us know what you find out.
  23. Pets aren't allowed in stores here either except for some of the pet stores and I won't take my fids there for you never know how healthy they are.
  24. Rita is stunning and congrats on her arrival safe and sound, looking forward to hearing lots more about her.
  25. I think your bird would be ok for this trip in the collapsible cage pictured for I use a similar one for my grey for road trips and she stays in it the whole trip with some time out of it, as long as you keep her close by you so she can be in the middle of what is going on she should be fine then you can get the larger cage you have to set up if you want for later trips, my opinion.
