New macro filters make photography fun
judygram replied to Butttaxi's topic in Photography & Video Room
Yes mine put on a show in the spring and I can always count on them to show up every year and look more lovely as the years pass by, looking forward to more great shots, hint, hint. -
Don't be ashamed, you didn't know but you do now and most of us here take our greys to see an avian vet about once a year, blood work is done and if anything is amiss then it can be corrected, call it a wellness check and then your vet will have a baseline to compare to the next visit or when an illness or emergency occurs, we always hope that never happens but it can and does happen. I look forward to seeing some pictures of her missing talons but that probably happened while she was still in the nest and it should have healed over a long time ago so their is no need to put anything on it unless it is reddened or appears sore, again a vet visit is in order.

You are going to see a wide range of sizes in most all species of birds as their frames vary by individual and I have seen small birds play with toys meant for large birds and vice versa but the cage size for both Cags and Tags should be about the same size as stated by Dave, when the wings are spread wide its not as much difference between the two and they both need room to open them up.

I didn't mention the tail feathers but noticed they were very short, thats dishonest to tell you she was a baby but I know a baby grey when I see one and Sherry is not a baby. Deeds done now and I can tell you are smitten with her, of course you will show her all the love you have and adore her just as much as if she were a baby, its just so deceitful of people to take advantage of a newbie to pass off a grey missing a few toes, most people wouldn't want an imperfect bird. I imagine she gets around well with her handicap and has she been checked out by an avian vet?

I know the heartache but it will be soon and then you two can spend all the time you want together, its good she is bonding to you already as most don't until after the homecoming so you are getting a head start. She is adorable from the pics you shared with us and keep them coming for we love them. -
Hello Paige and welcome to our family, so glad you and Chipper could join us and super happy you could give him a good home. He has only been with you for 5 weeks and in a grey's world that is not near enough time for him to be settled in and feeling at home, give him some more time and be patient with him and I imagine he will chatter more as time goes on. He has had a lot to deal with living with an alcoholic and who knows what kind of abuse he might have had to endure so be prepared for some unwelcome baggage to be unpacked. He just may be a grey of few words, some chatter on and on and others just at times, I wouldn't worry about it and if he never utters another word he will still be an awesome creature to be enjoyed and loved. Do read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. We love pictures here so if you have some you would share with us that would be great.

Hello Cupid and welcome to our family, how nice you could join us and we look forward to hearing lots more about you, Cupid and Sherry baby. Thats too bad about Sherry's toes but please do not put any more hydrogen peroxide on them, try some aloe vera jel instead, one of our more knowledgeable members has cautioned about using that on birds, it escapes me right now as to why but if he says not to use it then I don't question his judgment. They are both adorable greys but Sherry is not a 6 month old grey, she is more like several years old from the color of her eyes, if she was only 6 months old her eyes would be more gray color and not yellow. You don't say how long you have had either but if its only been a short while then you will have to allow enough time for them to get used to their new homes, to settle in and feel comfortable, greys are very cautious creatures and their trust has to be earned.

Sully may have saw something that you didn't see and it caused him to freak out a little hence the reaction, as some here do you can keep a night light on nearby his cage so he has a little bit of light to see if he gets hungry or thirsty during the night, probably scared you more than it did Sully.

my grey is dying..... need help....
judygram replied to rajnair's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
I am so sorry to hear of this and I know you have limited access to avian vets but that is exactly what you need right now as this bird sounds very sick, if he has lost the use of his legs I am afraid it is already too late to save him but please try, do whatever you have to, please keep us informed and I will keep you and your grey in my thoughts and prayers. -
There are several different kind of clicks, one is when they are happy or content and the other is a different one that means I am not happy with whatever you are doing or a warning click, I can tell the difference in both but it is hard to describe each one but I can tell which one when I hear it.

Dan has pretty much answered your questions and so glad you are considering a grey, we all live different lives but as grey owners we do the best we can for our fids especially our greys. I work full time as does my hubby but my grey comes out as soon as I get home and stays out until her bedtime and some days it might not be as much as on some days when I might get home later than usual but they cope very well. Today I happen to have her with me at work, I do bring her occasionally as she enjoys the one on one time she spends with me without the other two fids.

I see Sully's dance and how cute is that, yep it looks like he will do just about anything for that nut, thanks for sharing it with us.

Ray is right Renee, you have to allow Shadow some time to settle into her new home, everything is new to her so she needs time to adjust to all the new changes, you will find that allowing plenty of time and lots of patience when dealing with a grey will serve you well. Don't worry if she is turning her "nose" up at vegetables, keep offering them for they usually will try them eventually and offer them in different ways, raw, cooked, mashed, chopped and so forth to find a way that is more appealing to her, sometimes just like us they prefer a particular veggie a certain way. The growling will subside very soon, just remember she doesn't really know you yet and a grey's trust has to be earned as it is not just given because you love them, my grey did a little growling when I first brought her home but it goes away, again just be patient with her. Greys are very cautious creatures and don't usually take to change very quickly but just let her set the pace and don't push her for more than she is willing to give at a particular moment. Please take a little time to read thru some of the threads here as you will find lots of useful information and don't hesitate to ask questions and we will help you in any way we can.

Hello Mira and welcome to our family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing a lot more about Kouki. He must have been well loved to have all those diaries of his life with his previous owner and what a blessing it is to have all that information about your new addition to the family, it makes the adjustment go a lot smoother. He sounds like an absolute delight to have and must have been a joy to his former owner. I hope you get your camera fixed soon so you can share some pictures of Kouki and the other members of your family if you like.

I just bet you do, it is one of the hardest things to do is wait for your baby to be ready to come home but he looks well fed and healthy and being socialized, thanks for sharing the vid with us.

I love the closeups of both Rorschah and Fatguy, you take some great pictures, my bleeding hearts have finished blooming already but your pic is a welcome reminder of their beauty, thanks for sharing them with us. -
Issac has his true colors now and he is a very handsome fella if I do say so myself, thanks for sharing the pics with us, now you have a teenager on your hands, enjoy.

Lollie already building a repertoire at 6 months!

Lollie might be the next "Einstein" of greys, thanks for sharing your story with us. -
All my birds do that wing stretching also and they do seem to do it more after sitting in one spot for a while and I guess some days they do it more than others, all normal behavior.
-
I am so sorry to hear of this but hopefully by posting it here someone who is looking for a grey will see it and answer your post, I hope a suitable home can be found for him. BTW, how old is Archie?
-
Like Dan I hardly ever open it anymore but I like having it if I need it for reference but maybe I should consider selling mine if it brings that kind of money, heck I will buy it somewhere for the $25 and sell it making a hefty profit on each copy, yeez.
-
They really should have some protein in their diet, maybe not on a daily basis but a little chicken or fish, some egg and or cheese is good for them, not too much but in small amounts. Offering your grey chicken bones is an occasional healthy treat as they devour the marrow inside and most will relish this.
-
It had to have been a misprint for that book retails for like $25 and I am pretty sure I got mine cheaper than that, keep looking for it is out there for a good price.
-
Oh I hope this bird gets reunited with it's owner, I have my fingers crossed, please keep us informed as to what happens.
-
Yes you would Penny for you would lift heaven and earth to find your bird end of story.
