  1. Echo is a cutie pie but she just needs more time to feel comfortable and you are doing the right thing to not push her right now as you want to develop some trust with her, thanks for sharing the pics with us.
  2. Hello Louie and welcome to our family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing lots more about you and Sierra. Pictures would be a most welcome addition.
  3. If he enjoys being close by the window then by all means leave him there but my conure is on constant lookout even when she is out of the cage that I couldn't put her near a window, she even goes down my back to sit when I am at the kitchen sink doing something as she is afraid she will see something fly by, the little bugger.
  4. Exactly, any parrot can and will bite and they are wild animals and not domesticated like our dogs and cats.
  5. They very well may be drawn to Shelby's chirping even though they may not see him they can hear him. I have my fid's cages across the room from the big windows as Sunny, my sun conure is frightened by anything that flies by those windows, she thinks even those planes that go overhead are out to get her.
  6. He is doing the feeding response, that open beak with jerking the head up and down real fast is when they get handfed, he may be weaned but he is still going thru the motions, I imagine it will subside soon, just sway his interest in another direction when he does that.

    Yoga Bird

The title of this thread may say it all, she likes the stretch of holding her foot in that position, you probably have seen her pull one foot up close to her body when sitting for a bit, they do that to rest that foot but she has found a new way. You could put a call into your avian vet if you are in any way concerned but if she is healthy and active in every other respect I imagine you will get a similar answer. Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us more about you and your grey.
  8. I have a grey, she is 5 years old and was a hand reared baby, who has never really bitten me, she has applied pressure a few times but never broken the skin, she has pushed my hand away many many times and I have learned to read her body language pretty well and know when not to push it but all birds will bite at some time or another.
  9. Congrats on your new addition to your flock, you are going to love a sun for they are little clowns with bright coloring, my sun is spoiled rotten and can be a cuddler also. How sad she was going to just drop it off at Humane Society like it was a throw away possession and you certainly saved its life by taking it in and giving it a home. Sundance is a very pretty bird but then I am partial to suns, love them.
  10. Hello Josh and welcome to our family, congrats on getting your first bird and a grey at that. Daisy needs time to settle into her new home to get comfortable enough to come to bond with you, you have to earn her trust and not pushing her for more than she is willing to give is how you accomplish that, be patient with her to allow her to adjust at her own pace. Since this is your first grey I suggest you read thru the many threads here for lots of useful information and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. We love pictures here so if you have some of Daisy you would share with us we would love to see them.
  11. Jon is adorable and they look like they will be good buddies and that will be a blessing if they can get along together, of course they can be partners in crime too, what one doesn't think of the other one might, thanks for sharing the pic of them with us.
  12. Hello Rick and welcome to our family, so glad you could join us. Please do read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask questions and we will help you in any way we can. We would love to see some pictures of Sunny if you want to share some with us besides the ones you put in another thread, she is a lovely grey.
  13. Yes they all have that and thanks Zoom for putting the technical term for it, I guess it can look a little scarey to anyone who doesn't know it exists and is perfectly normal.
  14. It might be the first word you heard but it won't be the last and now that the gates are open so to speak be prepared for a lot more words to be heard, congrats on Murphy speaking his first words.
  15. Hello Gregg and welcome to our family. Why don't you tell us more about you and your grey, whether you have other birds or not, how old, names and so forth. The best way to teach your grey to talk is to talk to him, tell him about your day and use appropriate words for actions and foods you are giving him and he will pick up what he wants to say from what he hears. But realize that not all greys will talk as it is not a guarantee but most do.
  16. Hello Echo_Peeps and welcome to our family. If you have only had her for a few days she is not settled into her new home yet, please allow her some time to feel comfortable as she is in all new surrounding with new cage, new home and people, greys can be cautious creatures and you have to be patient with her. She is not comfortable with you wanting to pet her at this time so back off until she is more receptive of that, some greys do not like much touching and you have to respect her wishes, a grey's trust has to be earned and sometimes we have to bend over backwards to achieve that, she doesn't know what is going on in your head so your actions speak volumes to her. You will learn to read her body language and that will tell you a lot about what she may be ready to do. In the meantime please read thru as many of the threads here for lots of useful information that will be very helpful to you as new to greys and don't hesitate to ask questions as we will help you in any way we can. Was she weaned before you brought her home? Now all we need is a few pictures of Echo so we can admire her, we love looking at the young ones.
  17. Happy Belated Hatchday Maggie, I am sure she didn't notice that you didn't remember but you had a lot going on, she does look good there with Bri. Sometimes they can get mad at us when we leave them for a few days but all is forgiven now.
  18. I googled the brown headed parrot and found this site and it has a lot of information about it: http://www.avianweb.com/brownheadedparrots.html Be sure to share some pictures of this bird if you do get him.
  19. If he had shown interest in those zip ties believe me he would have destroyed them in no time at all.
  20. I admire macaws from a distance, they are too much bird for me but I do enjoy seeing other's macaws, some people just aren't meant to be big bird owners and I am one of them, give me something equal to or smaller than a grey and I am happy, my grey is my equivalent of a big bird.
  21. What a cute little fella and he will be so pretty when he gets all his coloring, congrats on your new addition to the flock, yes you have a flock now with more than one bird, better watch out or you will be suffering from MBS like most of us do.
  22. I personally don't think he needs a mate, he has you for companionship, he doesn't need a mate to be happy and live a full life. I certainly wouldn't take him to a pet shop to choose a mate as you don't know what kind of diseases or bacteria your bird might come in contact with. Since your bird has been kept as a pet so far it is best he be left as a companion bird and not a breeder. My opinion, take it or leave it.
  23. I have seen these tubes before but never bought one for Josey but if they have them at the bird fair we have later this month I may go ahead and get one as it looks like it could be fun for them, once they get used to it of course.
  24. You have a lovely flock of birds and I do admire the IRN, just a stunning bird, you take very good pictures and thanks for sharing them with us.
  25. It looks like she is enjoying her outing but do get on with getting her into a harness for those clipped feathers will be replaced, she is such a pretty thing.
