Skittles is a cutie pie and how old is he?

I knew it was a lorikeet but yes a rainbow one that has all those colors on it, looks like an amazing bird, why not post a couple of pictures in a new thread in the other birds room and tell us some more about this bird, name, how old and how you came about it.

He is starting to assert his independence and you may not be interpreting his body language correctly, please read thru that thread on learning to read their body language so you can avoid a bite. Maybe you are doing something he doesn't like at that moment and he uses his beak like we would our hand but above all do not show fear or pull away quickly or he will love getting that reaction and continue it further. He is testing you right now to see how you will react and to find out what he can get away with and greys love drama and do not want to be ignored so tell him "no bite" and ignore him for a while and he will soon get the message. Picture frames, couches, clothes and laptop keys to name a few but the worse culprit is my sun conure as she is always on me if she is out of her cage and she chews up all my t-shirts so I can never wear anything good when at home, people think I am hard up for t-shirts as they look so raggedy.

Congrats Deby, you now have an equal number of males and females, the sun conure I have has not been dna'd but I think she is a female so I am pretty sure all 3 of my fids are female, I know my grey is and suspect my cockatiel is female as she has not lost her pearls.

You have only had Max for 4 days so don't judge these little incidents as it will take much longer for him to pick any favorites if he does have a favorite, keep talking and doing what you are doing to help him and allow him time to unpack his baggage but if he does pick your husband as his favorite then it doesn't mean you are left out in the cold. Greys can be fickle about who they like the best and there is not much you can do to change their minds so its best to accept what Max decides and go with it. It is much too early in the relationship to admit failure.

Greys are not mature until they are about 5 to 6 years of age so it would be after that.

It sounds like things are going well for you and Miko, its hard to believe he has come this far in only 9 days so you must be doing something right and not having a strong reaction to his bites is good and as the weeks and months go by you will get better at reading his body language so you will know the signs of an impending bite and learn to avoid them.

You don't need a dna test to know that a grey is capable of talking and they understand some of what we say to them, some have been taught to recognize colors and shapes. Most greys will talk but there is no way to tell which ones will not.

Rose is a little pissed off at the moment as you took her flying ability away but she will get over it. I wish you hadn't clipped her wings as she was learning how to fly and that includes a few bumps along the way like flying into a wall but practice makes perfect and they have to learn how to fly to land properly but the damage is done now. Why not allow her wings to grow back out and leave them unclipped as a grey that is allowed flight when young is a more confident bird.

I don't think there is any significent difference in the ability to talk of either the Cag or the Tag and no difference in whether it is a male or female, each grey is an individual and a few of them will never talk, its more of the luck of the draw whether the grey you get will talk. I hope you are not getting a grey just for its ability to talk for there is so much more to a grey and if it never speaks it is still unique and awesome in its own right.

If you google it you will find lots of hanging playstands and a few may come with some kind of tray to catch poops but most of the members who use hanging playstands or hoops just put some newspaper or those vinyl floor protectors to catch the droppings.

Well it will show you how fast they can grow for there will be such a difference from one week to the next until they get fully feathered, just stay busy as that tends to make the time go quicker.

Both of those cages would be fine, you wouldn't want to go any more than 3/4 inch spacing with a Tag and those playtops are great.
