Hello Jocko and welcome to our family, so glad to hear you could give Jocko a new forever home, poor thing being passed around to several families before coming to you but if this is her final home then you can start working on a lasting relationship with her. It would help to know her background if you know it and if you are willing to share how you came to acquire her then by all means share it with us, it will assist us in being able to help you with her. She needs time to settle in and feel comfortable, she is an older mature bird so she is set in her ways but it will take time and lots of patience to build a trust with her for she may feel like this is just another stop in her journey to yet another home. Just give her lots of space and time and do not try to rush her into anything she doesn't want to do right now, let her make her own decisions about coming out of her cage and interacting with you. Be sure to browse thru the many threads here for loads of useful information from firsthand grey owners, many of us have been thru what you are going thru now and experience is the best knowledge in many cases. Feel free to share some pics with us of Jocko as we would love to see them.

We really need to know how old Jimbob is but I am guessing he is young so it wouldn't be a hormonal thing but Steve's answer seems to fit.

I would think it would be safe but feed it in very small amounts as it is sweet and could make him only eat his veggies if it is honey coated. Maybe Dave will clarify this for us.

The others have given you some excellent advice, I can't stress enough that patience is needed when working with a rehomed or a suspected wild caught grey, they have trust issues that will take lots of time to work thru so celebrate the small steps and take it easy on Mikko and give him plenty of time for if you try to rush things it will backfire on you and then it will take even longer.

Simon recognizes a good thing when he sees it and he gave it his stamp of approval, a nice big roomy cage, whats not to love, glad he took to it so readily and it might have helped that you were inside it at one point for it showed him it was large enough for his human owner to occupy though only for a short stint. I think too that you will have to experiment with placement of perches and toys, trial and error works just fine.

My hubby made sure Josey learned the wolf whistle and she did and still does it occasionally, sounds like Gracie likes it too.

Well it seems Spencer is doing just fine in your care, you mention a sudden breakthrough but it may have just taken him this long to feel he can trust you as being a rehomed bird they are very slow to trust again. You have made great progress with him and he looks wonderful from the pics you shared with us. Now lets not let so much time go by that you don't check in again and pictures are always welcomed.

So how is it going on the second day? Good I hope.

You may be able to alter her habits somewhat but a 12 year old grey is pretty much set in her ways but you can work on it. It will take lots of time and patience on your part, first begin by allowing her to come out of the cage on her own, let it be her choice, she may view her cage as her safe zone but allowing her freedom with open up new possibilities. Give her plenty of time to venture further from the cage as she feels ready to. Why don't you tell us more about your situation like did you have a relationship with this bird all along or hardly ever seen her? Is she flighted? Tell us about what you mean by training her? Do you mean tricks or just to adapt to your living arrangement? We need more info to give you a better answer.

I don't know about greys but I have a house full of mounted animals including birds that my cockatiel lands on all the time so having something with eyes doesn't matter to her but it looks like the best suggestion is to hire someone to come in and do the things you want done to keep Archimedes from going so high up or invest in a very long fishing pole.

Well congrats on one of the babies being yours, they sure are adorable and yes it will be the longest wait of your life but well worth it.

Buzz was enjoying that scratch so why did you stop! At 360 grams he is a little on the small side but he may be small boned but well in the healthy range for Cags, he is a little cutie pie and thanks for sharing it with us.
