  1. Judy & Dan, you two never fail to put a smile on my place. I wish you know how much that means to me, I don't have many smiles theses days. So it makes me very happy when you are able to do that! I just got Talon up, gave her breakfast, and got out the medicine, I tried to get her to step up, but as usual in the am since the meds, she flew off. So I went to her and put her syringe up to her beak, and she drank it on top of her play stand! I told her what a good girl she was, and she repeated it after she was done! It made my day!! :cheer: Our vet has ALL his birds on the lacto/vinegar routine. I have always wanted to not do it, as it can be a pain, but look what happens every time I do. I wonder why others here don't have any problems...
  2. What a great idea!!! I love it. Let's all start teaching our birds like we teach our kids their telephone number and address in case they get lost.
  3. Talon

    Earings

Yes, this happens quite frequently to me. Talon grabs my diamond post earring when you least expect it. When she has it in her mouth, I try to get her to open up for a pencil or a cotton swab, or something she doesn't get to have, but wants. Usually after a little battle, she gives up and drops it. She knows I freak out if she has my earring in her mouth. One time though, she actually bent the post. I keep my hair down, as to cover my ears, other wise, she would do this every time I saw her. I am always on guard when she is on my shoulder, as she is quick, and I worry about her swallowing it. I know others here ALWAYS take their earrings off as soon as they get home. I imagine that it would be very dangerous if they swallowed them.
  4. I'm curious if any one else here has ever heard of this? UPDATE: Talon's eye is looking better, although the redness is not completely gone yet, but the swelling seems to ave gone down. Last night I put her on my shoulder and walked into the bathroom with her, which is where I go to towel her, and she wouldn't get off my shoulder. She watched me measure out the medicine into a syringe, and I thought she would fly off onto the shower curtain rod, but she just sat there talking. So.....I put the syringe into her beak, and she just started drinking the medicine. She drank the entire syringe WILLINGLY on my shoulder!! I couldn't believe it, I thought I was dreaming. She actually seemed like she liked the taste of it!! I was VERY happy. She's still sleeping this am, I'll see if she does it again once I get her up.
  5. Thanks Tracy, I was doing the very same thing!! Great minds........B) B)
  6. Dan, your such a sweetheart! I LOVE the flowers!! You once again put a smile on my face! My vet believes whole heartily in this routine. I have been doing it ever since Talon was a baby, and in the past it has been used in place of antibiotics for her bacterial infection to much success! Every 3 months, She has a 1/4 tsp. of lacto-plus mixed into a 8 oz. cup of water or juice. We use that mixture for her drinking water or juice for 2 weeks. I keep the unused portion refrigerated) Mixing a fresh batch every 2 days or so. After that, she gets a 1/4 tsp. of organic apple cider vinegar mixed into 8 oz. of water or juice. We use this as her drink for the next 2 weeks. Then we are done. This gets repeated every 2 months. 2 months off, 1 month on, etc. The lacto helps put the good bacteria into her system, and the apple cider vinegar cleans out the bad, I guess. It smells horrible, thus the juice! :pinch: I have yet to find anyone else here who's vet does this, but my vet has all his avian patients using this. Every time I have ever stopped, Talon ends up with some kind of infection.
  7. Actually, I prefer, Strawberry Daiquiri's and Italian food the best. IN that order I might add! B)
  8. OMG! I just saw the glass of wine there. Good for her!!:woohoo:
  9. Yea, can we just send her around to make toys for us all? I promise to feed her well.....she likes McDonald's doesn't she?? {Feel-good-0002006E} All kidding aside. I LOVE what she is doing instead of staring at a screen. Your a lucky man! :)
  10. You guys are great! I LOVE this family. I have been having personal problems with the soon-to-be-ex,(but not soon enough for me!!) and I have been very mentally drained. But enough about me, I just want you guys to know how much your caring and friendship to me means. You have helped put a bright ray of sunshine in my life each day that I come here. I love you all!!    Okay, enough of the mush!! :pinch: Talon's eye is getting better. It is still red and a little swollen on the top only. it was the entire eye, but it seems to be coming along, just not as quick as I expected. She has been such a good girl. After clamping that beak tightly shut....she will eventually give in, and drink the medicine slowly as I put it into the side of her beak! I'm very proud of her. And I only have to sing and dance for a short time!! Friday am is the last day of her medicine, PHEW!! And then I will start the lacto/vinegar routine. I have neglected that since the move, and it seems that every time I do, she has comes down with some kind of infection. Hopefully I have learned my lesson, and I won't neglect this routine ever again. Bad Mommy!

  17. Hi Everyone! Thanks for all your concern about Talon. It means so much when you are worried about your precious one to have support like you have shown me here. I wanted to update you all. Dan, her gram stain showed 10% bad bacteria, not a huge amount, but enough so that she has an infection. I have found that if I put her on my shoulder, and playfully talk and do things with her, I can get her into the bathroom with me, where I play peek-a-boo with the towel on both her and I. I then dance and sing with her. She seems to relax a bit, then she gets the idea, and flies onto the curtain rod, or light. I then climb up and throw the towel over her, and take her down. Once I uncover her cute little face, she says, "whoo!" Then I am able to fight the syringe into her beak and give her the medicine. Of course, all the while she is shaking her head NO! But we get through it twice a day, and then she climbs back up onto my shoulder, and I give her a noodle reward. She is so forgiving to me, it amazes me!! Her eyes are still red, but the swelling seems to have gone down. I hope the medicine clears it all up. I feel badly for her. I wish I knew what causes these infections. She seems to be susceptible to them... Thanks all for your encouraging words and support!
  18. Madi, She did sleep when he was on the computer. She is now in my bedroom with me. I often work on my computer late into the night. She sometimes eats when I'm working, but mostly she's very quiet. I think if you kept it totally quiet for them, they would have a hard time sleeping if they were ever to be moved, or would startle when they did hear noises. It is impossible to keep it total quiet, and most greys do just fine. They adapt to sleeping with what ever noise they hear. Some members here, have the tv on while their greys are in bed at night.

  20. Yes, safety has to come first. You did the right thing. B)
  21. Those are great!! Thanks for sharing them with us. I especially loved "I'm a Believer"! B)
  22. Very nice photo Tari!! You did a nice job!
  23. HI Judy, I still have all my fingers, and fingernails so far....... Her eye is getting worse, and now it is spreading into the other eye. I just got home and the vet left a message on my voice mail. She does have a bacterial infection, and will have to be put on oral antibiotics for 10 days. I HATE this, she's tough to get medicine into. What a fight she puts up twice a day. Since she is fully flighted, I have a heck of a time catching her. She seems to read my mind before I even get the towel. It becomes a cat and mouse game here.....
  24. Thanks everyone! I'm not really too concerned, as we have dealt with her having an upper respiratory infection and a bacterial infection on 2 other occasions. But putting eye drops in her eye, that's a new one for me. Maybe I will post a photo of her eye, I wonder about it, as her eye looks perfectly normal, its the area around it that is red, and gets worse as she gets excited, and barely noticeable when she is calm. We seem to get a handle on it early, as I am not the type to do the "wait and see" approach. I take her immediately with in a day or two if I notice a problem. I will keep you posted, and thank you all for your concern.
  25. Thank you everyone! I had the best Mothers Day I ever had! My kids cooked me breakfast, and served it to me in bed!! :woohoo: :woohoo:
