Harrison is a superstar....again :)

Tycos_mom wrote: I'd love to do something like that...the problem is, if I'm not in the mood, my photos turn out crappy. I've done it with my friend's dogs and puppies, she's an Aussie breeder. That was fun. But, I had to do it when I was in the mood...lol. I can see it now, a customer calls to set up an appointment for me to take pics of his bird and I say "I'll have to call you back when I'm in the mood." LOL. But I do have fun doing it with Harrison. Thank you all for the kind comments

Post edited by: HeatherStrella, at: 2008/10/09 02:49 -
That is totally cool!!! Are you on the first batch of photos at the top of the page? How's it going anyway? I think I remember you from before...when you first got your little bundle of joy. I think you were maybe having trouble with the person you got him from or something...?? Has that gotten better?

You guys are so kind. Thanks so much for the comments. I gave Harrison an extra scritch from each of you -
Very nice...I'd buy from you, for sure. Especially knowing the care you took to ensure the toys are safe. I do have one question...if it's a "secret ingredient" type thing, I understand. How did you put holes in the tongue depressors without splittin them? Very nice items. You really should sell them!!

As some of you know, Harrison's photo was in BirdTalk Magazine a while back. I had submitted a bunch of photos for that area in the back where they feature readers' photos. Well, they picked the worst (quality) photo, in my opinion, for that area but they are using the more professional looking ones for their articles. I found it by accident and then I put my name in their search and 4 articles came up with Harrison's photo I just wanted to show you... 1. http://www.birdchannel.com/bird-behavior-and-training/bird-behavior-issues/bird-behavior-issues-feather-picking/feather-picking-checklist.aspx?cm_sp=InternalClicks-_-RelatedArticles-_-bird-behavior-and-training/bird-behavior-issues/bird-behavior-issues-feather-picking/feather-picking-checklist Same photo as above but not cropped 2. http://www.birdchannel.com/bird-behavior-and-training/bird-tricks-training/teaching-your-bird-to-talk.aspx?cm_sp=InternalClicks-_-RelatedArticles-_-bird-behavior-and-training/bird-tricks-training/teaching-your-bird-to-talk Different Photo 3. http://www.birdchannel.com/bird-behavior-and-training/bird-tricks-training/parrot-talking-abilities.aspx?cm_sp=InternalClicks-_-RelatedArticles-_-bird-behavior-and-training/bird-tricks-training/parrot-talking-abilities Different photo 4. http://www.birdchannel.com/bird-magazines/bird-talk/2008-november/birds-caregiver-needs-care.aspx?cm_sp=InternalClicks-_-RelatedArticles-_-bird-magazines/bird-talk/2008-november/birds-caregiver-needs-care Gosh, I didn't realize how long the links are...wow. Hopefully they will all work. I just sent them a bunch more, so hopefully they'll use them too. If you guys have ever sent photos to them, you should type your name in their search engine and see what pops up!! Heather P.S. Only the photos are mine. I didn't write anything...including the part under the photos...it looks like a quote from me but it isn't.

Post edited by: HeatherStrella, at: 2008/10/07 21:29

We got Harrison (CAG) when she was about 3.5 months old...she was hand fed and fully weaned and she was $875.

Baxters Excellent Outdoor Adventure
HeatherStrella replied to BaxtersMom's topic in Photography & Video Room
Great photos!! I wish I could take Harrison outside in something like you have. You guys have interesting looking squirrels. I don't think I've seen any that are all black like that. Baxter is really beautiful and up against your reddish fence and your green grass, his grey colors really pop out Heather -
Sounds cool..but your link doesn't work

Some new photos of Harrison
HeatherStrella replied to HeatherStrella's topic in Photography & Video Room
Aww, you're too sweet. No, I'm not a photographer. I've never published any photos other than winning a few contests and having her photo in Bird Talk Mag. You know, in the back where owners birds are featured? Honestly, I have to be in the mood to do it. I've had people ask me to do their weddings or bday parties and such...I tell them 'no' because I never know if I'm going to be in the right mood. If I'm not in the mood to do it, they don't turn out very good. But, it does help having a good camera and equipment. And good subjects, of course..what could be better than a beautiful bird!! I look forward to seeing your photos...I hope you post them here for all of us to see. Thank you for saying that I'm an inspiration to you. That's very sweet. Heather -
Some new photos of Harrison
HeatherStrella replied to HeatherStrella's topic in Photography & Video Room
Thank you everyone who commented on my photos. I've had a rough few months with some personal stuff and haven't really been up for taking photos...I really thought I wouldn't be doing it anymore. But, Harrison really brings it out of me...she makes me want to do it. I don't know what I'd do without her. She sure has lifted me up when I've needed her. Di, I looked at Monty's vent area and I can't tell. I'm sorry..I really don't know how to sex a bird. Our breeder told us that Harrison was male also but a DNA test proved otherwise, obviously. If I were you, I'd just have him tested. My vet charged $50 but I've heard of cheaper ways to do it. I'm sure other members might be able to help you out with names of places that do it. I think there's a place you can just send a little smear of his blood through the mail and they'll send you the results back through the mail. I think I heard it was like 20 bucks or so. -

Thanks for the comments...here are some more...same general type but a little better lighting.. I might frame this one...

Post edited by: HeatherStrella, at: 2008/09/23 06:51 -
Finally a good butt-shot. Only bird owners would say such things...lol. It looks like she has red factor on her chest but it's just a shadow or something because there's nothing there really. Thanks for looking Heather

What a cutey! I left a comment and a rating but it didn't seem to register. Oh well. Hey, how do you control all the poop she must poop if she's cruising around on all that rope? Do you have paper down under all that? I'd love to do something like that for Harrison, I don't mind cleaning up bird poop, but I'm afraid my dog would eat it before I could get to it. lol. Plus, my husband wouldn't go for it anyway. But, man, I'd love to do something like that, I'm jealous of your set up. Heather

I've been photographing Harrison and gotten that before...I've always trashed them...never thought about posting one...good idea...good shot, too.

Who are the other birds on the front page?
HeatherStrella replied to HeatherStrella's topic in The GREY Lounge
Oh woops. Sorry for that mistake. I don't know why I thought it was Talon. Thanks Judy. -
I've always wondered who the birds were on the front page and also, who do they belong to? I know the first one is Harrison, mine...and the second one is Talon who belongs to Penny...right? What about the rest of the photos? Heather
-
Judy, are you saying s/he is attached to females so s/he must be male? Not sure what you meant there. Just because the rest of the group went with female, I'm gonna say male...no reason other than that...

Hey.Single African grey free to any good home

regarding what raehamilton wrote... I've been a sign language interpreter for many years so I've used the relay service a lot. The relay service is used for deaf/hard of hearing people to talk to hearing people. One thing that you said...the relay operator said "are you familiar with this service"...they say this to every hearing call receiver because if you're not familiar with what to say when you're finished with a resoponse("GA"or"go ahead"-so the other person knows it's their turn to talk) or when you're finished with the call (SK-stop keying)...then the operator will explain it all to you before beginning the conversation. So, I would imagine that part was real...and the part he emailed sounds like what a deaf person sounds like when they try to write English. Usually their first language is ASL which is English words but not always in English word order. I'm not really sure why it sounds like a scam to you guys...I just don't see it...but I'm not experienced with this stuff at all so...??? -
Oh man what a cutie pa tutie!! I love the second photo...so cute!! I'll bet you've got a lot of photo ops with her...
-
OMG!!!! Such a cutie!! S/he looks soooo much better and I'll bet s/he feels soooo much better! I just love how cuddly s/he looks. It makes me want another one!!! I gotta stop looking at your baby...lol. I say do the DNA test...think of it this way. Will you regret doing the DNA test? No. Will you regret not doing the DNA test? Maybe. Regardless, cherish your time with him/her while s/he's a baby...there's so much I wish I would've done with mine that I can't go back in time and do. HAVE FUN! Heather

Welcome here. This place is wonderful, I'm sure you can see. I have lots of pets but my CAG is my baby. Don't get me wrong, I love all my pets but there's just something about Harrison (female..you can read about her in my album if you want...click link below)...I always thought I was a cat person...well look at me now...no cats and I'm goo goo ga ga over this little grey being. LOL. Have fun!! Heather

Awwww!! I saw some baby greys at the bird shop the other day...makes me want another one!! :woohoo:
