  1. What a sweet little thing!! After you gave him his bath, you put him in a towel...did he mind that at all? If not, that's very good!! I don't know if you've taken him to the vet yet, but they have to towel them to examine them...my bird goes bonkers when they do that. If your bird is used to it and doesn't mind it, vet visits won't be so traumatic. Very cool!!
  2. Nice looking Grey you have. She's a cutie. Don't ya just love those x-mas tree stands!! They work great for gyms for our lil ones. You said "I wish I could upload more than one pic at a time!" Do you get a message when you try to upload more than one? I've never had a problem uploading tons of photos..has something changed in the last month?
  3. Awwww! They're so cute!! I bet you guys had a hard time walking away from them...I know I would.
  4. WOW...I hope if my AnnaBella is ever lost, someone like you finds her. Have you posted on other sites? Parrotchatter.com is another well populated site if you want to post there. There are individual forums for specific bird types...like African Greys. Good luck, I hope you find his/her owner!! Heather
  5. I hate to sound stupid, but what does "HIC" mean?
  6. AnnaBella talks in my voice and my husband's voice. I think she's picked up some voices from the TV also. To me, she doesn't sound like a familiar voice...other people say she sounds like me. She also whispers since we taught her to say "superstar" in a whisper. She says so many things...complex words...sounds...the other day she made a fart sound then said "yummy"...she had to have gotten that from a cartoon or something. LOL. It's funny, she will ask for all kinds of different foods...celery, strawberry, grape, apple, etc...I cannot get her to say "pretzel"..she loves them but calls them "crackers". It must be a hard sound for her...I don't know.
  7. I found this link in my 'favorites'...not sure where it came from. I checked it out, I must have put it there to check out at a later date. It's really cool...you can hear animals in their natural habitats. If you click on 'Africa' and then click 'Central Africa Republic', it lists "GrAy Parrots" as one of the animals heard. All of the links have way cool animal sounds. AnnaBella was really interested in the sounds!!! Here's the link: http://earth.wildsanctuary.com/index2.html
  8. Thank you all for the comments. Yes, Jaguar, she loves toes!! I wear socks so that she's not so obsessed. If I don't, she is absolutely focused on my toes and won't do anything else. I'd like to keep my toes
  9. AnnaBella was in such a silly mood yesterday...she was so much fun. We play on the floor everyday and I think she's getting the hang of taking turns with the toys. Playing together...(MAYBE) LOL. Going after hubby's toes We pick our battles around here... These boots were made for walkin'....I love watching her waddle!! Throwing the ball to me...hard to tell, but she threw the ball in both of these pics. I was reviewing some of the photos on the LCD of the camera and she was curious so she came over. She beaks everything, of course...my camera is quite big...she can't hurt it if I'm careful..so I let her kinda check it out and it really seemed like she saw herself on the LCD. It appeared like she really stopped and looked...you know the way they do...she's such a sweetie...I'm off work for the summer but I go back to work on Friday...school starts on Monday. Life is busy again. We had a great summer, just a few wounds and lots of great memories for me to think about while I'm working with the kiddies. I miss her so much when I'm working...grr. Enough of my babbling...hope you enjoyed the photos. Heather Now that I look at them, I should have gotten more shots of her with the toys. Oh well, next time.
  10. Ooops...sorry. I get those two mixed up. I'll bet it's cute when Rudy tries to have KC feed him...ha.
  11. Awww Rudy is adorable!! Such a cute baby. I love your Eclectus too...I've always thought if I get a second bird it would be one of those. Do you have any pics of your Caique (sp??)?? How do they all get along?
  12. AnnaBella has gained a few grams. She weighs 473...the vet kept calling her a "he" because she thought she was big.
  13. Aww man, we just ordered one...for a $hit load of money...looks so easy to make AND you put toys (beads) on yours. WOW...hope hubby doesn't see your thread. LOL. I remember you...the room in the background...you have a bird room that's all bird proofed...right? Maybe I saw you on another site. We have an area in the living room for AnnaBella...we're not sure how we're going to put the net yet though. Her cage is in her room...not bird proofed..she sleeps in there and is in there when I'm not home. It takes AnnaBella time to get used to things...how has your flock done with it? It looks awesome...I want your bird room!!! B)
  14. Aww Tycos_mom...at least you loved him enough to try...and let him go. Thanks for all the comments... lovethatgrey, we take her to the vet every 6 months for a check up. I'm very nervous she'll be sick and we won't know it...she was sick at the first vet visit and has tested fine since...I just worry a lot. The vet actually suggests every 6 months for exotic animals...but she said most people do once a year or when needed. I know it would be easier on AnnaBella if we'd just do it once a year or whatever...I'm just too worried. I can't imagine having a kid. A lot of my immediate family died in a short amount of time and I think that has caused me to worry about the ones I love. Grr...I won't even start. Have a good day!!
  15. The vet went well. All is good health wise. She looked at her beak and immediately said it needed "some work"...now that I see it after, I realize it was a bit too long also. The bottom wasn't jagged anymore so we left that. This time was really hard on AnnaBella. She usually gives in to getting toweled but this time she really fought it. She fought everything...I guess that's kinda normal?? The vet said she has a "strong personality"...LOL Is that what you call it? She's been quiet the rest of the day...maybe sore from fighting the towel? I know she needs to get used to her new beak and nails...I'm sure she'll be back to normal in no time. Normally, after the vet, she's back to her normal self by the time we get home. Maybe the beak work freaked her out...it was the first time she had it. Oh well, I'm glad she's healthy...
  16. Thanks, Dave. If vets do round them off then I'm sure she'll do AnnaBella's when she sees it. I could get a pic of the upper mandible, but I figured "what's the point" since I can't really get one of the lower. I'll post how it goes tomorrow. Thanks
  17. Tomorrow is AnnaBella's 6 month check up at the vet. Her upper mandible is quite sharp and I was wondering if it's safe, humane, acceptable, OK, etc..etc.. to round it off a little. I wouldn't want to do it if it caused her any problems other than being unable to draw blood on me. Her lower mandible is pretty jaggged...like a steak knife. I'd like to get that taken care of also. But, again...if it's inhumane to do it, I won't. Can I get some opinions please? Thanks!! Heather
  18. LOL...what a great story!! Do you have a blog or something where you keep track of such events? If so, I wanna see if possible. He sounds like a wonderful bird!
  19. lovethatgrey wrote: LOL. Reading all the posts and feeling all warm inside and then reading yours at the end...made me crack up! LOL AnnaBella has been doing this for a long time. I try to discourage her from doing it, I thought I read somewhere that you're supposed to redirect them if they do that...no? Do you guys let your greys do it until they're done? AnnaBella will sometimes become aggressive a little while after. She'll do the "lovey dance" and if I let her go to the point of "gurging", she'll plop out some food for me. Then later she will (sometimes) become aggressive. She'll bite...she actually flew over to me once and tried to bite my head as she flew over. That only happened once but it was after one of her lovey episodes. So, how do you guys handle your greys when they do it? Do you redirect them? ignore them? go along with them? Other?? I'm glad you posted this...thank you!!!
  20. Someone sent this to me in an email. The photos are so great...beyond awesome. I wish I could do this great work...from home...lol. ENJOY!! http://www.fourwinds10.com/siterun_data/spiritual/pictures/news.php?q=1245101530
  21. Wow, I didn't notice the fan at first. That would really bother my Grey.
  22. AnnaBella=no shoulder policy. I can't trust her not to bite and she likes to chew/pull my hair.
  23. I tried to listen to the chirp in relation to how loud the TV was. The chirp certainly was louder than the TV. AnnaBella has an ear piercing chirp too. She doesn't do it very often tho. When your bird isn't with you, do you have a radio or TV with him? Like I said, I could hear the TV but wasn't sure if it was in the same room...it didn't sound like it was. Maybe you could try having a TV or radio going in the same room as him..if you don't already. I've heard of people who have TV going in another room...then put it in the same room with the bird and it makes all the difference. Good luck
  24. I think it would be hard to tell from, say, a photograph. But in person, I think it would be easier to pick mine out. I think her mannerisms would give her away. Her voice, things she says, the imperfections in her beak, her reactions to people....stuff like that. Like Tony, I have a list of vocab I could send ASAP. Lovethatgrey, I don't think you have anything to worry about...I think you'd know. And, like Judy said, your Grey would know you!! She, when you had yours microchipped, did he have to be knocked out? Was is stressful?
