I love Harrison more than I ever thought I could love anything/anyone. I got her in April 2006...my mom was terminally ill and died that August. It was the worst time of my life. But I had a baby bird during that time and I had to take care of her...(actually at that time she was a he in my mind...lol)..I was acting like a little kid around her...playing with her toys to get her interested and such. She helped me through it and I didn't even realize it until later. It probably wasn't the right time to get a baby CAG...selfish of me, but whatever...too late now...if there's such a thing as soul mates, then she's mine. I know that sounds weird, but she is.

Toy found in everyday doo-hickey..lol

Just so you know, I didn't mean that I hid where I put the treat and then had her guess which one, I showed her which one I dropped it in. I wanted to see if she would understand that if she opened the lid, she'd get a treat. -

Purple semi-transparent. Also, I didn't really say but this tray has never had meds or anything in it...so don't worry about poisoning. -
Yesterday, I was sitting with Harrison and next to me was a brand new medication tray. You know the ones...they have Sunday thru Saturday on them..they're pop tops and you just put your daily meds/vitamins in the little cup. Well, I thought I'd see if H could pop it open...she did it on the first try. Then I put a treat in it to see if she could get it out..that was a little tougher but she got it out after a few tries. The I held up the tray lifted Wednesdays lid and put the treat in it. I closed the lid then asked her "where is it?" and I kinda moved it closer to her...she got it on the first try...then I set it up for another day she got it on the second try...but the 3rd try, it took 2x to get the third try...not bad, I say. I just thought I'd share my new toy idea. The plastic is pretty flimsy so I wouldn't leaver alone with it...it's something to do together. Heather

OH! Slmclean..were you talking about the swing hanging or the play perch thingy? We got the play perch from Drs Fosters and Smith.
-
My husband made the long chain part from spare toy parts. The swing is from a pet store. We put wooden hexagon blocks on the chain all the way up and she'll hang out on the long chain and chew on the blocks. She loves the ball in the middle. She attacks it, plays with it and tries to get it to scratch her head. lol She'll sit on the swing and sometimes fly around the room and land on the swing again. She loves it!!

It disappeared between the time Harrison went to bed and when she woke up...she must have "groomed" out the RPO.

the worst part of caring for babies :*(

I'm so sorry! A big hug to you. Take care... -
M2MM and Tycos_mom...I took that into account, of course. I have noticed that too. But this was different. I now know it's the oil. But thanks anyway.
-
It's the red palm oil...maybe a little pellet dust...that stuff is multi-colored...no comment on the condition of the bars of the cage No but seriously, her cage isn't very dusty....we dust every weekend and have an air purifier in there with her. That helps a lot with the dust. Now, you should see the filter on THAT thing!!
-
Now I feel stupid...it's obvious is the photo she got something on it...like the RPO...strange that you can't tell in person...
-
Ahhh the lovely Harrison. It seems her right ear feathers have darkened while her left ear feathers have stayed the same. Is this a maturing thing or?? She could have gotten her morning dose of Red Palm Oil on it I suppose, but it looks more like the feathers there have darkened. Anyone with answers?? Thanks, Heather

...I don't understand what this means. -
This is hanging over her perch. She still climbs on her perch but this is her favorite toy...she attacks it, rubs it like ...well...whatever ...anyway...I would recommend this to anyone having trouble finding something for their bird.
-
We hung a swing from the ceiling over her play stand and that was the best thing we could have done! We put wooden toys and such on the chain that holds the swing and she chews on that and climbs up and down...I'll see if I have some photos...

Oh boy, I thought you were talking about a real Zebra...then when Spooky said something about "your other finches", I realized you meant Zebra Finch. lol These are some sweet pictures. I'm gonna follow what everyone else says, I could never be a breeder or work in a pet store. My house would be filled with whatever animal came through the pet store and if I bred animals, I wouldn't let them go. But, I would like a chance to breed something some day. And have the babies and hand feed the babies...melt, fall in love, and keep them forever...see! ya. I couldn't do it. Oh well...kudos to those of you who can!!!

Oh yes!! Harrison has a ball with a bell in it. It hangs from the ceiling of her cage. She also has one hanging from her swing in her cage, the swing outside her cage and one on her play gym thingy...she just loves balls with bells. Anyway, she will play with it and play with it...all of a sudden it's been a bad boy and whammo it's being punished. She knocks it around a little bit and all of a sudden, the ball is a good boy now. lol. Harrison will back up to it and put her head next to it like she wants it to scratch her head. {Feel-good-0002006E}. She goes through these routines over and over...those balls must multiple personalities. Heather

Post edited by: HeatherStrella, at: 2008/06/28 03:22

Is Maggie saying that if you don't do this "right" then you have to give the bird back or something? I feel for you...it sounds like you got more than you bargained for. Not only do you have a bird to learn from and teach to, you have two women to report to. It sounds like Maggie is the problem...not you. For being an author of such a well-known book, you'd think she'd know better than to push the little guy. When I was a kid and we had a parrot that just flew in our window one day..he was a Kakariki..from Australia I think....we tamed him by taking him into the bathroom. He had a little cage that we'd take in there. We'd open the door to the cage, he'd climb out and then I'd interact with him. The reason we did it in the bathroom is because it was a neutral spot and it was a small place...not a lot of space for him to go. He was tame before I knew it. Can you just blow off Maggie? Or will that be a bad thing? I know it's rude, but it's better than being stressed...your bird can sense stress. If Maggie isn't willing to give you and the bird more time to get to know each other..more time as in more than two weeks, I don't think that's fair at all. Oh boy, I have so much to say but this is a family friendly forum. Who made her queen &^%$&@#!!!??? Grrrr...sorry, I had to say it. I feel for ya, girl.

Post edited by: HeatherStrella, at: 2008/06/28 01:09 -

I love parrot breath!!! Kinda like puppy breath...lol. Not that they smell the same...but I do like parrot breath. If Harrison's breath was bad, I'd think something was wrong. -
Have her check out all of my geckos...they're in my album here http://imageevent.com/heatheranddenis
-
Ok, this one tops them all. For gecko people, this is some serious eye candy...lol. This is called a snow...all of the yellow has been bred out of the gecko and he's just got an all white background with black spots. He has just a touch of yellow here and there. He's really tame and laid back too...couldn't ask for a better gecko!! Thanks for looking

We use full spectrum lighting...it hangs from the ceilng above her cage. It doesn't scare Harrison at all. But, we had it there even before she came to us. We use those really long light tubes...I don't know what they're called...My husband got all the supplies to 'do it yourself' at Home Depot.
