  1. Well if the toy came with them, I see no harm in it. And parrots have torn up worse. If it hurts them later on they will just ignore them. I would just shave down any really sharp parts that they might not notice. My bird chews up absoultely anything.
  2. Maybe using some kind of pad that is still an easy clean up. Almost like foam but with a slick top. So he can still chew it up. But won't beable to destroy. Another thought is putting something on the floor under the cage like a drawer type deal with newspaper in that.
  3. Well grupples. Ask almost anyone and they are going to have a parrot who has a particular toy that they are going to hang upside down from their cage and fight with and occansionally fall. There not falling on purpose and it doesn't bother them. And yeah bad things can certainlly happen. But if you try and teach them not to fall there not going to get enjoyment out of that toy anymore. My bird falls everyone once in awhile and he's perfectly okay. Noticed the first week. Just shook it off and called him a dork. Because birds become fearful easy and it if he thought it was really that much of a problem then he would have stopped. Damonk I would say let him play because it is quite normal but if he is landing on his back.. Which I don't think my grey does maybe put a washable pad on the bottom of his cage during the day something big enough to fill the whole bottom of the cage so he won't land on just part of it and he can chew on it if he wants.
  4. Yeah I agree with most of the people here. Go to the vet. Don't call because they will not help you what so ever. They might not even want to try. They will just tell you "Well I can't tell you what the problem is until you come and pay to have him exaimened" But anytime an animal seems weak then you should take them in and well hanging upside down all night is something i've never heard of.
  5. There's nothing to clue about. Parrots will take to one person and there's not much you can do about it. There's no really abilitating them once they do. It's nothing to be worried about really because pratically ALL parrots will take to one person and make them their favorite.. Though your is the one who get's violent to others. There was nothing we could do for our old parrot Chole she wouldn't give anyone else a chance. She was my dad's and my dad's only and now our new parrot Tj is mine. He gets excited about my voice he will let me flip him upside down and lay him on his back but if anyone else even trys he will bite. Not hard but enough to let them know.. HEY YOUR NOT ALLOWED TO DO THIS TO ME. Your bird's just giving a message out. I'm her's noone else is allowed to buddy up to me. Frankly it sucks but I don't see much else you can do besides having people talk to him while he is in his cage and having you back off alot more. But that can cause serious problems like plucking.
  6. Well this sounds like an interesting problem. I don't think there is anything you can do besides tuff love.. which might not sound like the friendlyest thing to do. But in the future he is going to need to learn to use his own.. "Throne" Instead of outside of his cage. I don't think it's really going to hurt him psyically.. He might just not like the idea of pooping in his own cage but eventually he is going to and if he gets more used to that. Then hey problem disapears... I also suggest >.<;; if he is going on paper or something like that outside of his cage putting it on the bottom rack or in the drawer so he can see that it's alright.
  7. Cleaning big cages are a pain in the ass even if you can drag them outside. I reccomend getting a steamer! Don't use any cleaners on the cage just to be safe and you can easily steam the bars and it will all go down into the tray then it's easy clean up.
  8. Birds are completely attached to their cage. I wouldn't suggest getting a new cage if she has been plucking, seriously fix up the one she's in now. Cage's are as much their home as our home is to us. Most birds when there out even want to be on top of their cage because there most comfortable and even if they are up in a tree, putting their cage outside is the most effective way of getting them out by themselves.
  9. Nothing to do with gender.. All about the bird. That's like asking if female humans talk more then males? And we all know females can talk but it's not a gentic thing it's well yeah. I had a female congo and she talked alot more then my male. And that's most likely because he's a little shy so maybe she might be to? Does she talk in front of other people? Or when your looking at her?
  10. I think it would be a nice addition to your home as long as when you are there you are giving him or her lot's of attention and having a radio is a very good idea.. But instead think about recording your voice so you could play that when you leave. I did that everytime I went to the store for 20 minutes .. For the first week and well it didn't do much because i'm always here with him anyways. But if he's sitting with my dad or something like that and hears me he automatically trys to follow my voice to me. So voice is a good attachment technique.
  11. Birds at petsmart are highly over priced and they don't take very good care of their animals. I threatened to sue them last month for selling me sick mice. It wasn't the fact that they we're sick and petsmart didn't know it's the fact that they told me they refused to do anything about it because it was 14 days already. The mice I had, had a respotory infection and passed it on to my 2 year old rat who had a tumor already and they gave her nuemonia. I took her to the vet and they told me the mice caused it. And she died 2 days later and I told the pet store they needed to do something because I didn't want the mice around. They killed my rat and I spent all the money I had to go get her checked up. They told me to get written proof from my vet and they would pay me back all the money for my loss. To avoid getting sued. I wouldn't doubt that all the other critters in that section have the same thing.
  12. Lol Jepri your bird sounds chunky. My bird personally is a spoiled pain in the ass. His last owners fed him at every meal and that's not what we'd like to do in this house. He will not eat any time of pellet chunky food in any bird mix so we get him little parrot formula mixed with peppers, corn, sunflower seeds and then just seed. And throughout a daily basis he will eat whatever I am eating like part of a chicken sandwich with cheese mustard, mayo and bread. Or a cookie if he'd like. Chocolate free of course, pasta, spegetti. Whatever is on my plate if I feel like coming in here and sharing. He really loves unsalted taco shells and he is completely addicted to cheez it's, Soda and sugary cereal. But of course it has to be in a bowl with milk.
  13. My congo doesn't say many funny phrases although he mummers under his breath when he's mad. It's the way he says alot of things like when he says "What's up" He says "Wuzzzzzzz up" As if there was a cute girl going by and he wanted to say "Wuzzzz up baby".
  14. Did you just get him? Did they pay attention to him? This is like the most common thing for any animal not all animals ESPECIALLY african grays to not take to you right away. I was lucky with mine, but nether the less you need to just keep taking him out, petting him talking to him. After like a night in his cage. If you recently got him and haven't yet. Maybe let him be in his cage for a few days. Getting used to his new surroudings but all the while walking past him and talking to him, Then start taking him out and gradually he will get more used to you. But whatever you do. Don't use gloves to take him out. It just makes everything worse.
