She been eating something new?
-
I need to pay attention to dates.
-
I might be beating this question to the ground...
Moddy replied to tonydiaz's topic in The GREY Lounge
20-35 years I believe. That's what my vet told me. Or atleast that's in old age. -
Hmm i'm around my parrot maybe 9 hours of the day. 3 of them are when he's out of his cage and playing with me and the rest i'm talking to him when he sits on top of my monitor.
-
Lol the can is simplar to what my parrot does around christmas when we get these well i'm not sure what there called but he likes to open them everytime there closed the thing is it's almost effortless for him >.<; And I don't want to sit there and keep closing it.. Lol.

Sorry you have to do this in the first place. I would sell her for a "rehoming" fee. Because your right it does show alot of commitment to the bird.. And well i've never seen anyone give an AG away for free, kittens maybe but even people charge rehoming fees for them, to be sure or to be greedy.. But most people have the best intentions. And especially with these birds that are like children they have mood swings need to be fed the right things.. Handled well, given the right amount of attention. Giving her away for free would spark alot of different kinds of people. People who would take care of her properly and give her all the love she needs.. And other people that like birds but don't neccessarily know so much about how to take care of them. Maybe if you find someone who really wants her write up a list about her and AG's in general about plucking how tramatic rehoming can be, favorite foods, good diet, where her cage should be and how much attention they should get. And if you really trust them and they think they can handle the responsibility.. Maybe consider it? But it's still a big risk. Or perhaps if you are going to give her away, do it to someone who already owns one and takes care of theirs well.

I don't think that putting him in the borrowed cage then changing it a bit later on is going to do any harm. Because cage trust needs time to build and it's alot better then him sitting by himself in the back of the store. Depending on how long you would be borrowing the cage for. I don't see any problem with mirrors? Unless you think he is going to fly into them? It's basically just like a window if he flys into it a few times you can almost gaurntee he won't do it again and who knows some birds like looking at themselves. I wouldn't worry about covering up your mirrors. There isn't much "house proofing" You can do. Except making sure he won't jump onto a heated stove or into a pot/toliet/garbage ect. You can introduce your bird to the dog and cat as long as you feel they would just be curious and not vicious and NEVER leave them unattentded!! My cat and bird are best friends they play around with eachother all the time but I would never leave her alone with the bird. So if you have them all out. WATCH THEM. If it's a large dog I suggest to not even bother well in fact a small dog either, there hyper active and scared of most things so I don't think introducing a dog in the picture is good at all... He can adapt to showers it would take awhile and well your not sure if he likes them? The best thing to do is try and if he doesn't he's not going to be sccared. I'm not to sure if they like being up against the wall because of that. It's just really a normal place anyone thinks of putting their cage. I think that which ever you do your bird would addjust and later on prefer.. And the dog rushing by seems like a good thing. Once your parrot get's used to it and knows he will have some entertainment and if you say things like "Wanna go outside? Come on" Later he might learn to say something like that when the dog goes by. Birds like interacting with other animals. And yes I agree with your wife, windows/doors never such a good idea because it does get cold and you don't want to readjust them each season it's not healthy. Also he might be able to chew up your blinds. Keeping him in the main room is also a but must because he might get lonley.

Wild caught? I'm sorry.. But that's horible. How old is she? I don't see how taking her from her home was any good.. If she was plucking out in the wild a very dramatic change like this doesn't seem to healthy.. Eventually i'm sure she will come around it just seems wrong for some reason.. Sorry only my opinion.

I bring my gray out. He doesn't like it and he has flown a bit before but his wings are clips and he's not going very far and the cat's know enough to stay away from him and we have about 10+ cats mostly strays so I think your bird would get enjoyment out of it. In a cage or not. But only when the weather is warm! If not well you know.
-
I haven't ever heard of that either, but if you want to post pictures that would be awesome! I'm really interested in seeing what it looks like.
-
Congo or Timneh? What's his name? All the advice in here seems to be great. The stick idea is really interesting and unique.
-
Lol that's really interesting. Sounds like a pain in the butt trying to figure out how to reclose it though lol. I've read alot about pinecones on here.. So i'm thinking of trying that.
-
There isn't much gain in keeping his wings at full growth, you can't take him outside when it's warm because even if you think he won't fly away there's always a chance he might. I would clip them everything he is fully able to fly. It may give them confidence.. But soon he can start to get really cocky. My parrot Tj got really cocky showing off and bit the cat (His friend) because he was showing off and the cat decided to give him a kiss at the wrong time.

Can African Greys also have conversations in human language
Moddy replied to rprice99's topic in The GREY Lounge
Well if you put two verbal birds together they are bound to learn from eachother and trigger other things. Something a human says that a bird usually reacts to like when I tell my bird "What puppy say?" He barks so if the other bird happen to know one of the phrases that makes them say a specific something then they can eventually learn "Hey when I say this that other bird replys with that" -
Birdlady, my dad and I had been debating about lettuce. I thought it was okay because well it's around in the veggie section but found out that it's a bit hard for them to digest. And to gery, I don't see salt as a big problem .. Or toxic. I see it not being good for them as it wouldn't be good for a human. And well I can see how LOTS of it would be harmful but my parrot eats wheat thins, LOVES cheese its and some other crackers with slat along with the other stuff that's in his diet. Even cookies. My other parrot had been eating like that for 2 years. And there's never been anything wrong with it. She got a bit chunky.. But that was because of how many peanuts she was eating which was my fault I was 9 and I wanted her to like me so I tried to "Bribe" Her which..never worked since she was a daddy's girl.

A loss is always hard. Been through alot myself and i've sworn to never get the same breed of a few animals I have but that's due to they often have the same things happen to them.. Like rats >.<; But none the less WELCOME! I'm also new Three days old lol. When you do decide what kind of bird your getting let us know
-
A box I will try that soon lol. I'm thinking of finding some things and making him some toys. Testing the supplys first incase I put in alot of effort and he doesn't play with it because he has a tendancy of doing things like that. But it's better then spending 50 dollars at the pet store for something that breaks before we get home or that he completely ignores.
-
I need some good toy ideas for my congo. Something they usually go wild for! He is very picky and he doesn't like the color white. He was like this when he came. The only thing he will play with (in his cage) currently is a bell he swings from. He usually doesn't bother with any other bird toys. He does love what he can't have though. Outside of the cage. Computer speakers, phone, phone charger, cords!!!!!!!!!!!! Remotes!!! He goes bonkers for thoes. We had given him an old remote afraid he would get acustomed to it and chase down every other remote we had.. But he did that anyways so no harm. And currently he's having a blast with my old cell phone. He also goes after cords. .. Trys to be sneaky but after he bit through my last mouse cord to where it didn't work i've been making sure he doesn't even go around my keyboard or mouse. So what should I try to give him? He also likes chewing on my wallet, pens (When I write he trys to go for them) Pen caps and likes trying to eat my keys.
-
I don't know about much of the differences because i've never owned a timneh and it is mostly having to do with the birds personalitys. Only thing I would tell you is.. Personally the look of the congo is better for me. But what's cool is the timnehs look alot more exotic.
-
Ouch Monique!! That sounds scary.
-
Looks like you have a spoiled kid lol. I'm thinking war.. Fire with fire if he wants to be a brat then when he wants up on either one of you two. Don't let him. Show him that the respect needs to be equal and he won't get what he wants until he starts listening. Deprive him only a little of attention and toys. Of course not food or water.
-
Try an online classifyeds site. Dealing with real people can sometimes be easier then a company www.craigslist.com Is where I got my bird and cage. The bird had been living in it for 4 years and it's in perfect condition.

I have problems with my CAG's bath's, he doesn't like to be misted and he bathes in his waterdish every once in awhile, his old owners said he likes a big dish of water on the bottom of his cage to bathe in but like alot of usuals he has dropped that habit when he came here.. so I might try ice water.. Thanks. I don't think if the bird likes it that it's going to hurt them much. Just for drying off don't let her stay cold.. Because if she's getting soaked and air drying in chilled air. She might get sick.

I light inscents in my house alot and they don't really seem to be that "toxic" To my parrot and I have been for months and months. No funny behavior, loss of appitiate, less chattery. Just light them in one room and lock your bird in another for awhile. Inscents are strong but usually not strong enough to cover a whole house.
-
It's just like any other animal just a bit more sensitive would you be spraying windex right around the cat? Just shut the door when your using something you thinkk you shouldn't I haven't lit any scented candles since I got Tj. But I always use incents in the living room and he has actually been around them in the same room had to move him to another part of the room because they were blowing in his face but he's been fine with them for months and months. And I have to use some sort of cleaners every week. Just make sure your parrots not around when your using something that's spossed to be "Toxic" To them.
