I completely and totally and absolutely agree with Luv. There's a exhaust fan on my stove and an exhaust fan in my central air. There's also a window in the kitchen. We use an aluminum pan for eggs although I like scrambled. Sunnyside is for people who are into eyeballs. We use glassware for baking and also for making meatloafs and other things I also keep the birds away from the kichen simply because they shouldn't be in the kitchen. I don't like birds landing on my shoulder and start taking a shit on me just to tell me how much they like the food AND they might miss the shoulder and drop a bomb in my freshly done eggs. The mixture of the two may not taste good or look appealing.

Concerning that link----I don't understand the language. Stay away from items that say silicon coated because it hasn't been proven that they're good or bad yet. Environment friendly has nothing to do with birds. All cooking items are basically environment friendly. Now, I will say that you're getting a little paranoid about all of these cooking items All of this started with Teflon and has now ventured into all types of cooking items and all types of coatings. So, what you need to now focus on are ---don't get teflon coated cookware that's used on top of stoves ---for in the oven cooking, use any cookware that has nothing to do with non stick coverings. Expect to have food stuck in the cookware. You'll always need to use old fashioned scrubing with cookware. Stop worrying about having all types of cookware that has a non stick feature. If you like ceramic, those thiings are sold without any coatings. I already gave you a link for those items. For making cookies/pies/cupcakes use aluminum which is recommended for all pastry items. Aluminum has nothing to do with coatings. You can also use glass bakeware for ovens. When you cook, put your birds in another area away from the kitchen. Many people do this and it has nothing to do with what cookware they use. My grandma would have a heart attack if she had to worry about these things 60 yrs ago. She did alright and no one got sick or poisined. AND Ladies, how about helping me out here!!! How about adding something????? I'm not an international chef!!

http://www.bizrate.com/cooking-baking/ceramic-pots/ All are ceramic. There's no coating, just pure ceramic. There's no teflon. All can go in an oven. All kinds of things can be cooked.

Lots of greys don't like cuttlebone. You can try mineral blocks but I doubt that he'll like that either. Both items are basically calcium blocks. One is colored and the other isn't. If you're really interested in giving your bird a great vitamin, you should try Red Palm Oil. It has the 2 most important vitamins they need. VIT A -- VIT E It's also the natural food they eat in the wild. On your browser type in SWANSONS VITAMINS type in RED PALM OIL on their page It'll pop up. It's a highly recommended product.

The biggest problem concerning teflon and odor is when items are left cooking and someone walks away leaving the pans unattended. If the teflon overheats and burns , the smell is terrible and thick and oily. It can get on different items --floors, rugs, windows, countertops, fridges, othe appliances. The smell lasts a long time and getting rid of it takes as much as 2 or 3 weeks and other chemicals have to be used to get rid of it. If you've been simply using your teflon cookware and haven't had problems like above. You really don't need to *prepare* your house. How longs does it take?? Well, when cooking, some people have exhaust fans connected to the stove. Others have a window open so it's really hard to answer that. All you really have to do right now is purchase some other kind of cookware and you'll be set to go. There's all sorts of cookware on the market.

If your bird is basically healthy, vitamins of any type shouldn't be given without a vet's ok and he'll be the one who tells you what kind and how to give it and he'll give you the reason why the bird needs the vitamins. Normally, greys and other parrots get their natural vitamins from the various foods they eat.

Morana Something happened to a few of your replies--questions and answers. Sorry about that. My PC wasn't registering correctly and edited things on it's own. But in the thread are the answers /suggestions you were lookingh for.

I already find it appealing;-) D: ***which I can bake cakes or cookies? How do you say that in English?**** We say it the same way too. Which way? A pan for baking cookies? You would bake a cake in a pan? I do not get it. Please explain.

I already find it appealing;-) D: ***which I can bake cakes or cookies? How do you say that in English?**** We say it the same way too. Which way? A pan for baking cookies? You would bake a cake in a pan? I do not get it. Please explain. I'm not sure about what you're asking but I'll try to answer what I think you wanna know about. Usually, most people want non stick cookware for cooking on top of a stove. I'm not familiar with non stick cookware that goes in the oven. You may have to use that that old reliable metal pan for making cookies. If you have a retangular or round dish about 3 inches high, you can buy small disposable cupcake frames that a person uses by pouring batter in them and making muffins. Listen,. I'm really not sure about how to make cakes and cookies or muffins so maybe you can get together with some of the other knowledgeble women here and exchange methods for cooking these things.

Yes, I agree with Talon and Ray. Even after so many years together, my greys will pull that off whenever they please and sometimes I'm in the way. For me, there's plenty of times that I'll let them settle it cause they sure don't like interference from me and their bites tell me so. That's why I never allow any routines to get going cause I myself forget those routines and I pay the price. It never fails. Sometimes it's just not my day to be a part of their jealousy. It could be the smallest to the largest thing. They're very talented at being SOBs.

Orgreenic is a new type of cookware which has it's own type of non stick coating which is made of cermanic. It's more durable. It's not the same as Teflon non stick cookware. There's a number of links for this exact same product on the PC and some get into more detail about the chemical composition of the product. Each place has an 800 phone # so questions can be asked. So, if you check it out you may find it appealing. That's totally up to you. You may not have this product in your country and companies may not ship overseas so maybe you can get together with someone here in the US who can have the product shipped to them who in turn will ship the product to you. Again, it's just a thought. ***which I can bake cakes or cookies? How do you say that in English?**** We say it the same way too.

What to feed a African Grey Parrot? Also how much(amount)/how often?
Dave007 replied to glitteronfire's topic in Bird Food
In this section, you'll find all the info you need as far as feeding parrots. Just spend some time reading all the info that's posted. -
1--no, you can't overfeed a grey but you can possibly give certain foods that can cause other health problems. The most common illness is fatty lver disease which a bird can get from eating only sunflower seeds with nothing else. A varied diet is good. Your bird should be able to get to food 24 hrs a day because they don't eat like people. With parrots, there's no breakfast, lunch or dinner. Greys aren't known as birds that can easily gain weight. When feeding veggies, they must be removed after they get wilted and soft and start to rot. Usually, that happens about 3 to 4 hrs after feeding them. 2--no , it makes no difference concerning TAGs and CAGs. Everything applies to both.

Some birds will do this when they're in a new environment and/or with new people . How intense it is has to do with individuality and whether the bird is a nervous type. It's a scary thing because the bird makes it look like he/she's getting killed. That can cause a person to back off. I'll be honest with--there's nothing you can do to change that present behavior. It will change but there's somethings you need to do and put up with. Even though your bird is screeching, jumping around, continue with what you have to do and try and be calm. It's gonna be hard if you've never owned a parrot. I can tell that this behavior will ease up and eventually stop as the bird sees the routine over and over and over. Try to change bowls quickly. Talk to him while changing things. If you're not using newspaper in the tray, start to do so. It's the easiest to pick up and replace. Don,t do all of this tray cleaning around him. Take the tray away. Get these things done as calmly as you can. Put up with the yelling. Understand that you've only been with him about 7 to 10 days. he needs to get used to things and it takes some time. Top off that food dish with treats, preferably nuts. Make sure he sees you doing that----hand means nut. Nut means hand. Know what I'm saying. Also, there's birds that don't yell or growl or screech if they're outside of the cage while cleaning/feeding is going on but only you know whether it's easy to get the bird back in the cage afterward. He's still new in the cage/home.

kins2321@yahoo.com *****Dave007... I KNOW, you are very knowledgable, but WHY would you be so " flippant", regarding that post! I took that post seriously, as well as the owner probably did! A few moments of thinking there was something wrong with the bird. Many of us have no idea what a TAG or CAG should weigh. Please remember, people( like myself), look forward to your posts regarding your experience.RESPECT your experience( yourself).Don't take it for granted! Nancy and Sophie**** First of all, I'd like to thank you for your deep descriptions of me. I think it's wonderful that you've investigated my famous posts in this thread from the past. There's not too many people that would take the time to do that but you're special. I feel so good that you are a true follower. I thank you so very much for that. I really need a sidekick. You deserve better so I just wanna tell you that since you are a true follower of mine, there's many, many past old posts that show my varied statements that covered just about everything. I don't do this for everyone. I believe that you're one of my special followers that should be told about yesteryear. I now realize that you derverve the special treat of my readings. Believe me, I need to give you a special treat. You derverve it. You'll experience the ultimate thrill of my in deep sayings. Where have you been all these years? I could have used you a long time ago but at least I'm lucky now. Oh well, better late than never. ****YES... your right. It was an old post. I am a little slow... and NOT computer smart. I will have to pay better attention to dates. Nancy**** Please, don't worry about it. You'll get it soon enough. One thing though, I know for a fact that you're getting computer smart ( don't put yourself down) because I know that you've learned that word THANKS next to all posts. So, if you'll go back in time to those posts that you're referring to, you'll see that there were people who said thanks because they enjoyed it so it's a bad idea to state how people felt about those posts(**as well as the owner probably did!**). Sadly, none of us can't read minds. But not to worry. We all make mistakes so just know that I forgive you. I'll take the time to teach you the finer points and art of methods to accomplish this. Congratulations! Here's to a new fresh start. I look forward to our partnership. Pass this wonderful post to Sophie. Just understand that we will conquer!!.

Thebirdistheword Listen, before you get a whole lot of complex solutions that you're hearing about, the whole picture should be talked about. Many members may not know the short complete set of present situations. Right now, there aren't many facts to be spoken about concerning your bird so this will be a short reply. Ok, so you're worried about what your bird is now doing concerning hubby/fiance. ( playing favorites). BUT, what you didn't mention in this thread is how long you've had your bird. So lets see, if I'm not mistaken, you got your bird around 1/22/02. That means that you have your bird approx 2 weeks SO, you have a bird that's no where near being settled in and you're making judgements concerning behavior which is gonna change constantly as this time passes. Your bird iswn't a machine and won't follow some sort of routine that you've heard other birds have. All birds are different. That's why people will say that a grey is an individual and needs to be treated like that. So, slow down and let your bird become a complete member of the family.
-
Your friend is just giving her opinion about her bird, not a fact about all TAGs. Laying lots of eggs for no reason means that the bird needs to be taken to a vet. Actually, some of those birds might even bite which is understandable. Gender----many people buy greys and they have no idea about the gender so gender means nothing. Males and females are both nice and have nice personalities. Being grumpy has nothing to do with the sex. If a person had a bird who was laying eggs excessively, that bird would be grumpy too and that applies to both TAGs and CAGs. Loads of people here have both birds in one house and there's no problem. I also have 2 CAGs and 1 TAG and have no problems. All are adults. 2 Of them were adopted. Those 2 came from other types of homes.
-
Some of your questions can't be answered right now because it depends on the personality of each individual bird be it CAG or TAG. There's many books on the market but most address the standard info conceing parrots. having a board around where many people have opinions can be given concerning a problem.. Ever hear the expression ****there's many ways to skin a cat****. Concerning bonding---one of the most important things to do when bringing a grey home is to immediately get the whole family involved with the bird. Eventually, the bird will like one person for certain things and like another for other things. Whether a bird decides to switch to another person has to do with that particular bird. There's no standard for a parrot. Sexual maturity has nothing to do with anything. Have no idea where you heard such a thing. *****how about their stress level?for changing new enviroment, people or noise like vaccum,tv??**** Again, all of that has to do with the particular bird. All parrots don't likehigh stress levels. My birds love vaccuums, thunder and other things. They don't like cardboard bioxes. Another owner may have a bird that's the exact opposite. TV, radio, stereo is never a problem with parrots. they eventually get used to it and sleep with all of that stuff on. CAGs and TAGs are somewhat different. A TAG is more laid back, is willing to investigate things more quickly. A CAG is different. The bird needs a acouple of weeks to investigate something before excepting things. CAGs are very causious and if ignored or abused, they may pull out their feathers. So basically you need to ask specific questions because there's so many opinions and methods of dealing with greys and that includes both CAGs and TAGs.
-
That is too heavy. regulation size-----305 to 315 slightly heavier boned----325 to 340 large boned-----345 to 355/360 There aren't too many large boned TAGs around tho. 370, 375 is the weight for a small boned CAG
-
That's pretty cool. They love it. Don't really get many photos or videos of birds in the snow so thanks for posting them. i think the TAG had a cold foot for a few seconds. Take care.
