Well, let me thank you for telling me. Like I said, I never heard of or seen him. Maybe a reality show??
-
Sorry for my ignorance but can you tell me who Dr. Oz is?? I never heard of this person. Someone on TV??

The one thing about buying from Amazon is that you'll see the same product ( including brand name---same amount/ size) for different prices. This applies to many other products that have nothing to do with oil. Last week, I needed an aquatic submersible heater for my 55 gal fish tank. I looked them up and saw the exact same item ( including brand name) and I saw a huge difference between companies. I had to search until I found one that had the right wattage. I needed a strong one because the tank is large. The price was absolutely great. Price---14.75 --Second price--27.00---Third price--43.00 --Fourth price---51.00. All the same item, all the same brand name, all the same wattage I hope this picture posts here but if it doesn't, just go back there and look through their whole list of oil. Just to help you out about Amazon red oil------carefully read the amounts of oil in each container. The first one is $22 for 67 ounces. That means $ 11.00 per bottle. The usual amount sold from Swansons was 16 oz for $8.49 They have another one that costs $125.00 but that applies to a 12 pk Like I said read the amounts in the bottles before judging the price. By the way, in the upper right hand corner of their page, you'll see that the prices apply to year 2013.

Dan Come on, tell the truth!!! I've known you for a long time and I KNOW for a fact that you ALWAYS pick on your wife because you know she's a delicate person and you NEVER let her win any arguments. You rule with an iron fist and you ALWAYS make sure she knows it. She cowers when your anger NEVER subsides. SHE will ALWAYS be sorry that she met you. You'll NEVER change and you'll ALWAYS stay that way. AND that's the absolute truth.
-
That was hard to believe so I went to the Swansons and it's still the same price as before----$8.49 The only problem is it's still unavailable. If you need some just check out what I posted about getting it from Amazon--They have really good deals. The price is right. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_8?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=red+palm+oil&sprefix=red+palm%2Caps%2C644

About the only time to judge if there's an actual problem with your bird, all you would have to do is watch the way your bird is to see how he his throughout the rrest of the day (totally awake). Is he on his perches during the day? Does he climb around his cage? Does he constantly slip and fall off his perch throughout the day? If the answers to thiese questions are no, then sleeping on the bottom is simply a preference.

As far as your second question--it's fine to get the breeder or vet or any person trained in the art of flight harnesses. Many people do it and it can only make the job of handling your bird with a harness. It should be a the flght harness type. As far as your first question---no, it's not a good idea to be taking your bird around so others can pet or handle him. That's especially true for any pet shops. The word *socializing* has to do with getting all members of a family to interact with the bird on a daily basis. That concerns feeding, cleaning, giving treats, any training. That bird relationship also means that one person bonds lessen. Only One-person bonds in a family is bad news. Work on that end of it. Forget the outside and strangers petting, handling him. That can also turn the bird against you because you're the one that put the grey in that uncomfortable situation. Greys are high strung birds. There's a big difference between different species of parrots.
-
Definitely use the towel. It's one of those situations where the towel is a must. Worry about the bad attitude at a later time. Birds get toweled for lots of different problems so getting that ointment on is #1 priority right now. He's growl, scream or screetch. Try not to pay attention. If you have another person there, have him/her help you out.

Yes, the gel should be used immediately. It should be put into the wound and around the wound in all areas that irritations appear. Use a heavy amount. It's not toxic. It's very soothing. It sinks into the skin. Put more on daily until wound looks calmer and redness eases up but still use it. Make sure the bottle says 100% pure. It can be gotten in pharmacies and large supermarkets that have a large drug section. Do this quickly. The itchiness and pain will continue if you don't treat those bad areas. The gel isn't for growing feathers back. It prepares the skin to acept new feathers with less pain and irritation. It's also a healent.

Because of his seroius situation , excessive activity isn't a good idea. Think about much more time in his cage or think about a mild clipping that won't allow him to go upward and will allow about 10 ft of horozontal flying. The heart gets strained when going vertically causing a very winded bird. If clipping is chosen, make sure it's somene experienced and make sure he/she has the time to listen to your wants and needs. Mention the murmer and mention that the diagnosis came from a vet.

Whatta you mean by Shards? A bird that has those types of wounds should be treated with Aloe Vera Gel, not any caustic material. Doing that only irritates and causes pain which will make the bird pluck even more. A bird who's had a short or bad clip will pluck at those feathers and even new ones because the feathers on either side are uneven and some get in the way of others making the bird more nervous and irritated. Those areas are extremely sensitive. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v50/DaveVP/DSCN0113-1.jpg

how calm is your parrot? calm enough to take shopping?
Dave007 replied to carlsjr's topic in The GREY Lounge
Macaws are much more inclined to stay with their owners in all sorts of conditions. They're not afraid of surrounding situations. Macaws are long distance flyers. Short trips just don't appeal to them. They're more likely to stay calm with their owners and take in the surrounding action. Their temperment is nothing like a grey. This goes on in different countries. These countries such as Scotland, Germany and the Amazon have birds that would much rather stay with the human wnvironment that surrounds them. People let these birds fly away but they always return. They come back when nature tells them that they've done their duty. They know where food and shelter is. In Germany, there's a person that has 2 breeder amazons who stay with him all year long except for 2 times a year. These birds fly away and go to certain trees where they breed and raise chicks. These birds are free flyers. Those areas are approx 3 miles away. It's not him that decides when they should go. They do. In these countries, people think it's sinful to clip any bird's wings. In Scotland, cockatoos are all over backyards with people because their food is there. It's hard to make them go away. Basically, they're fearless. Macaws are the most common bird used when different movies are made that require that a bird be present in the movie for short amounts of time. They know that the birds will hang out no matter what's going on. They're more curious then fearful. -
The wood consistancy that's used for greys is regular to hard wood. Balsa wouldn't last 10 min. Greys are known as the best wood chewers around. Any wood used should last a grey a long time. If possible, they have tha ability to bite thru furniture wood, window frame wood, hard toys that even a dog wood have problems with and other things.

Not too much at all. The average number is between 4 to 6 hrs a day. The more the better. Some people can't let a bird out that much but there's no real harm. The only thing to work on *if necessary* is getting your bird back in the cage if that problem exists. So, 5 hrs a day is great.
-
Probably the most important thig you just said was. ""is that she is such a sweet girl"" Many people strive for that because of the happiness it brings to the owner as well as the bird and you've reached that point. Congrats and good luck.

To each and all Have a great and happy NEW YEAR:D

Hi Concerning that band--it's almost impossible for a person to track down info on an open band. That's because open bands are put on birds for many reasons. Many times, it has to do with a bird's original birth area or a state it came from or making it easier for a person to sell that bird to a second or third time owner. A long time ago, open bands were used on birds that were illegally obtained from other countries. Any type of info can be put on an open band. The best thing you can is look at the band, check out any numbers and they may resemble the year of birth. Or you can contact the previous owners and find out what info they have concerning info on the band. Either way, your bird is still a young bird.

This is the answer to this post and the other you posted a few months ago. You wanna know what's up? 1---visual habits of the whole process of breeding and habits of parrots from beginning to end( not just greys)? 2---length of time that has to pass before eggs are not fertile? 3 ---Method of seeing whether eggs are fertile or not? 4---types of special food that has to be given to parents and chicks after being hatched? 5---Knowing the difference between a sexually aware bird and a sexually mature bird? ( age) 6---knowledge of the amount of times chicks need to be fed as they develop and knowing how to hand feed? 7---knowing how to incubate eggs if pair doesn't? 8---kind of incubator which is needed? 9---knowledge of brooding? 10--knowledge of what to do if the tame bird decides to turn it's back on the human owner and becomes aggressive after bonding with the hen? 11---knowing what you want to do with the chicks after they wean? 12---knowing about the methods used in the weaning process ? 13--having proper cages to put chicks into as they age? 14--knowing how to take eggs away from the pair if they decide not to incubate? 15--knowing what feeding tools are needed in order to handfeed chicks? 16---knowing how to remove bad eggs from 2 birds that are showing serious aggressiveness because the eggs are being taken away? 17---having the pair vet checked before breeding to make sure all is well with the birds? 18---knowing how to make formula to feed chicks? There's other things to know but these are enough for you to learn about. Then you'll know what's up.

It can take different amounts of time depending on how they grow out. It also has to do with the present length of the clipped wings. Some may grow out and interfer with others growing out ( pinching) so many times a bird will repluck them because of discomfort. When the feathers finally grow out in the proper order, plucking/ chewing eases up. So, it could be quick or take longer. It's a good decision you made about leaving future wings ujnclipped.

Hi Max. Welcome to the board. Your grey seems like a very contented, happy guy. Good luck with your parrotlet. In the beginning just check out how they get along before letting them play together. Sometimes, some parrots don't get along with each other. Send in some pics of both of them. The board enjoys pics of all different parrots. Hope they have a good time with you.

Wow!! greta progress there. Lots of trust. By the way, you both make a cute couple.

There's no set age in which they'll talk. Some start very young and others start when they're older. The average age for talking is about 7 mts to 15 mts old but that varies a lot. It also has to do with how much they're hearing all day long. The fun things you're hearing in the morning is just the practicing of what he's heard. Sometimes it takes a while to change those sounds into words

Hi Carl After a grey reaches the age of 4 to 5 yrs old, it's pretty hard to tell the exact age of a grey. The eyes turn to a white color around the pupil which happens to a grey up to 3 yrs old and as the grey gets older that white turns to a white with yellow tinge. So, the best thing to do is try and believe the previous owner.

Merry Xmas and happy holidays to all and have a great day:D:)
