Cardboard strips tucked into the cage bars as well as stringing them onto a stainless steel chain entertain my birdies for hours!

Too bad you don't live closer to me (San Diego), as my adult children would have been perfect caregivers for your baby. And yes, this state is beyond expensive to live in!

We use sheer tie back curtains between the bird area and the living room. Below the curtains is a pet gate. When the birds are out flying around we close up the curtains and gate. Has worked really well for us!

Hi Joea, If she's clipped, then you could look into getting her an adjacent perch that she could climb onto from her cage. If she climbs off her cage and onto the floor, you might want to also look into getting a surrounding gate for her. If she's flighted, then perhaps you could rearrange those things close to the door jams, etc where she could possibly land and get into chewing. You could also look into getting her some wood blocks she could tear apart. Even blank strips of cardboard pieces are a joy for greys to shred. Hope these few ideas are helpful!

Welcome to the forum! We had great success finding a bird caregiver through our avian veterinarian's referral. If there's an avian store near you, perhaps they provide boarding, although having her cared for at home would be the least stressful option. Would love to see some pics of your beautiful girl whenever you have a moment!

Two of my greys love to tear up cardboard strips. I usually cut the plain flaps off boxes I've received. Keeps them busy for a little bit. Does he like to destroy wood toys? All 3 of mine LOVE that activity. All three love the perch swing that has 3 hanging stainless steel bells. They actually grab onto the side of the cage, pull themselves towards the bars and then let go to make themselves swing.

There's no guarantee that your grey will get along with another bird, especially having been an only bird for a good portion of his life. Most of my own birds don't really care for the others, but they do love to hear and mimic their vocalizations. I just downloaded his image, and I think he actually looks really good! Have you noticed if his plucking is seasonal? If so, he could be hormonally plucking himself. Just a thought.

No way! And to think that I've been struggling with those darn flimsy casters all this time.

I actually had quite a number of those Petco cages in the beginning. Plus: lots of room for the bucks. Minus: caster rolling wheels easily bust from moving your cage around to clean floors, etc. And unfortunately there aren't any replacements that fit into the legs. We ended using those furniture sliding disks once they began snapping off. I believe you can also find these cages through Wayfair as well.

They are incredible little souls. I am constantly amazed by how empathic they are. The bond with a grey is like no other in my humble opinion.

It's a pretty awesome toy. Fynn, unfortunately, performs his beaver maneuvers on the dowel piece so my son is always having to replace it for him. We've even tried vet wrapping the edges, but no shot.

I don't give them plastic straws, but that's only because they pull them apart so quickly that there goes another toy in seconds flat. I prefer toys that take them awhile to work their ways through for the most part. I do give them sheets of blank cardboard to rip up daily. My greys LOVE stainless steel toys. They especially love the three bells swinging perch. Mine will grab onto the bars to pull the swing as close as they can to the bars and then they let go so they can swing back and forth while ringing the bells. All three of mine do this! Frankly I think Maalik taught the others how to perfect this fun maneuver.

I think you're doing everything fine. Dummy eggs take the place of the real eggs and instinctively she will tend to them the same. She's such a pretty girl!

Oh no. Well, if she's interested in incubating them, then she may become less likely to lay another one from what I've heard.

Mine get Harrison's, but only a few like them as-is. I make birdie bread using ground up Harrison's pellets to make a 'flour' in order to get the rest to eat them along with more veggies.
