  1. The cage looks to be in very good condition! You're a wonderful bird parront!
  2. No way! And to think that I've been struggling with those darn flimsy casters all this time.
  3. I actually had quite a number of those Petco cages in the beginning. Plus: lots of room for the bucks. Minus: caster rolling wheels easily bust from moving your cage around to clean floors, etc. And unfortunately there aren't any replacements that fit into the legs. We ended using those furniture sliding disks once they began snapping off. I believe you can also find these cages through Wayfair as well.
  4. They are incredible little souls. I am constantly amazed by how empathic they are. The bond with a grey is like no other in my humble opinion.
  5. She is BEAUTIFUL! When a bird chooses you it's the best relationship ever!
  6. It's a pretty awesome toy. Fynn, unfortunately, performs his beaver maneuvers on the dowel piece so my son is always having to replace it for him. We've even tried vet wrapping the edges, but no shot.
  7. I don't give them plastic straws, but that's only because they pull them apart so quickly that there goes another toy in seconds flat. I prefer toys that take them awhile to work their ways through for the most part. I do give them sheets of blank cardboard to rip up daily. My greys LOVE stainless steel toys. They especially love the three bells swinging perch. Mine will grab onto the bars to pull the swing as close as they can to the bars and then they let go so they can swing back and forth while ringing the bells. All three of mine do this! Frankly I think Maalik taught the others how to perfect this fun maneuver.
  8. I think you're doing everything fine. Dummy eggs take the place of the real eggs and instinctively she will tend to them the same. She's such a pretty girl!
  9. I guess I didn't know about his previous life. Happy 'near' hatch day, Sukei! Kevin, thank you for all the countless hours that I know you've spent, rebuilding and fine tuning this site.
  10. Oh my gosh, congratulations!!!! What an absolutely fantastic find! And with you being such a talented handy man I just know you're going to work your magic and build everything into the property and house of your dreams! So happy for you, your wife and your wonderful flock! Thank you for all the pics. Can't wait to see more!
  11. Oh no. Well, if she's interested in incubating them, then she may become less likely to lay another one from what I've heard.
  12. Mine get Harrison's, but only a few like them as-is. I make birdie bread using ground up Harrison's pellets to make a 'flour' in order to get the rest to eat them along with more veggies.
  13. Oh no. This is so extremely sad. I remember when he returned for a short while as well. I recall that he was really struggling with some personal issues as well as having lost his beloved Ceasar.
  14. My birds seem to readily chip away at the paint whenever they can. So frustrating. Wish there were alternatives besides switching over to all stainless steel cages. That would break the bank in my household, as we have 13.
  15. I have those in my birds' cages, but quite honestly they haven't really worked for me. I actually found a bird groomer who makes house calls. Super convenient when you have 13 fids' nails to trim! I always love having someone else be the bad guy! Perhaps there's one in your area.
  16. Clipping a flighted CAG negatively impacts their psyche. Flying also helps keep their cardiovascular system healthy. All birds love to land on 'perches' that are high up. There's not a whole lot you can do about it except to put something on top of it that may prevent her from landing there while she's out. All 13 of my birds, which include 3 CAGS, are flighted and not one of my birds has ever plucked.
  17. Glad to see you here! Do you have any pics of Junior for us to see? There are some avian teas out there that help support feather growth from Greywood Manor. Did he recently start to pluck? Hormone or stress related perhaps?
  18. If it's only one, I'd just keep an eye on things. She could have bent it weirdly and then chewed it off because it was bothering her. If you see more, then you'll have to delve into her diet, environmental stress, possible infection, etc.
  19. That's a huge drop in weight in such a short period of time. I'd have her vetted to make certain she doesn't have an infection brewing or something else going on.
  20. I've heard people say good things about the full spectrum lighting for birds. I believe My Safe Bird Store carries them.
  21. You're most welcome! Yes, our household is most entertaining. There are times we have to step outside in order to hear each other speak! I have to do all my business calls from my car!
  22. My heart sunk when I read this on another forum. I'm so, so sorry. I can't even begin to imagine how devastated you are over the loss your beloved baby. I believe many space heaters have teflon coated elements. Sounds like yours must have had a short, which overheated those elements. I sincerely appreciate your sharing this information, as I know that it can help others moving forward. I'm so very sorry, Don. My heart goes out to you.
  23. RPO is essentially vitamin A and fat. I put a half pea sized amount onto their food. Some of my birds (I have 13!) go right for it to eat first. The Sprout People have great sprouting equipment and supplies. You can certainly go overboard getting all their stuff, but the basic sprouting trays and their certified sprouts will get you going. It's all about regular rinsing and serving them just as it sprouts; not when they've grown long. If she likes any soft foods like sweet potatoes, you can hide so many nutritional goodies chopped up into it. My crew doesn't like the leafie greens, so they get finely chopped into the sweet potatoes.
