  1. I have a boing in the center of Phoenix's cage. I purchased two of the same size, color. This past weekend I purchased a new one and he is totally terrified of it. He will do anything to avoid touching it. I took it out and put one of the other ones back in but I am confused as to why he would be so scared of the new one. It's the same size just a different color. Also another quick question. What is the best way to clean rope perches and boings? I hose mine down then put them in a pillow case and run them in the washer and hang them to dry. It seems to damage them but I want to make sure they are clean and sterilized.
  2. Phoenix just turned 7 months on the 11th. Poor thing had to hear me spend 3 days on the phone with Comcast. They missed THREE appointments! I know his first words are going to be " Are you "F Bomb" kidding me"!! I was BEYOND enraged as Comcast has a policy that if you do not answer the phone hours before your scheduled appointment time they will not send the technician to your home. So I sat for 3 days from 8 am until 2 pm waiting for them not to show up THREE times. Needless to say I have a $0 balance on my next bill. lol I just truly hope that he didn't pick up on that. I will be so mad at myself.
  3. Sorry, let me explain. It's not so much a shoo as I move out of his way. Right before he is about to take off to fly to me he makes a sound so I move out of his way and he lands on his perch or the top of his cage. If he gets to be too much I just have him step up and I put him on his perch and keep doing that until he gets the hint. I would love to spend every minute with him but as we all do I have things to do that despite what he thinks he can just not be a part of. lol As it is I don't even shower without him sitting on the curtain rod. lol I did get him to fall asleep on my lap the other night. It was really sweet.
  4. Yes, he is flighted and will stay that way. I do try to shoo him off but he comes right back. I have a TON of things for him to play with but he wants me. lol I should feel honored.
  5. That might work. I love him so much and talk to him all the time. If he just wanted to be with me or by me that would be fine but the first time I have anything in my hand he claims it as his. lol
  6. Phoenix turned 6 months today. Whenever he is out (Which is a majority of the day) he HAS to be either on me or getting into everything on my desk. I don't mind it sometimes but there are times I have things to do and since he acts this way I will have to put him in his cage to get anything done. He has two beautiful stands, hanging toys and tons of shred and foot toys. I was wondering if they grow out of this clingy stage. Most of the time I LOVE it and I know I'll be sad if and when he wants nothing to do with me but it can be hard to get things done without him getting into things.
  7. Thanks everyone. I feel better now. Weekend project my future.
  8. I agree, I will board him. Or we could make it a night at a hotel and order in. lol
  9. I was wondering what everyone does when they need to clean the oven. I need to clean mine badly. It's not a self cleaning so I would have to spray it. Are there non toxic oven cleaners? Would he be ok if I put him in an upstairs bedroom, opened the window and closed thee door? How long would I need to keep him away? Thanks for any advice.
  10. I keep trying. It won't happen if I give up and I am determined to get him to love it. lol I know I'm optimistic aren't I. I just want to take him outside. He loves to fly and it would be a thrill to see him fly outside.
  11. This may sound silly since he's a tiny little guy but boy oh boy is he strong and STUBBORN when he gets his mind on something. I had to fight with him for over a 1/2 hour to get the harness away from him. Every time I would get one part away he would grab another part. It was REALLY hard not to laugh because I was fighting with a Bird! He got over on me that time. lol
  12. Hi everyone. I could not find my log in information and I wasn't getting an email to reset it but anyway we are back. Phoenix will be 6 months old on Wed. He is the sweetest little boy! He is totally attached to me and wants NOTHING to do with my Husband no matter how hard he tries. I'm not too upset about that right now because our dogs are attached to his hips so I get to have Phoenix for now. lol He is eating like a champ. Anything I give him he gobbles it up. The only problem we are having is trying to get him harness trained. I have followed the videos to the T. As soon as it gets anywhere near him he grabs it and twists himself up in it. We keep trying because I would love for him to be able to go outside without being in a cage. I swear he wants to talk in the worst way. He'll be sitting on the stand chattering away and the second I talk to him he turns his head and stares at me. He's taking it all in. lol I am truly taken with this little guy.
  13. This is a video of wild Quaker's that have lived in the Bronx for many years. I have family that lives there and the birds are still there.
  14. Thank You. Yes the Emergency Vet is the Avian Vet I have used. I am sure I can get her in first thing in the morning. She is drinking and eating her Harrisons pellets right now. I didn't give her anything else this morning. I will keep an eye on her after she finishes eating and if she gets sick again or keeps hiding I will take her to the Vet right away.
  15. This morning when I took the cover off of my Sun Conures cage she was getting sick. The only thing she has eaten that was different was a small slice of organic apple, no skin. I could never get her to eat anything but pellets, seed until she saw my TAG eating other things. My TAG ate a slice of the same apple and did not get sick. She has been in her hut all morning. I will take her to the VET tomorrow but was wondering if it could be something I should take her to the Emergency Vet for today. She is molting so I am not sure if that has something to do with it. I was wondering if I should move her cage into another room to keep her away from my TAG.
  16. I have not put a Sleep Hut in Phoenix's cage yet but was looking to get a couple of them to have back ups. I have 1 Multipet Happy Hut (Medium) for my Sun Conure and they stopped making them!!! When I take it out to clean it the poor thing loses her mind. I found a similar one and just ordered a few so hopefully she will like them. Anyway... For Phoenix, a TAG, any suggestions? He loves to sleep on top of his boing in his cage. I found large and extra large Happy Hut type ones on Amazon. His cage is big enough to fit an extra large and I figured it would give him lots of room.
  17. I woke up this morning with a terrible cold and fever. Poor Phoenix wants out but I don't want to handle him being sick since he only wants to be on my arm or near me all the time. I had my Husband feed him and clean his cage this morning but I can hear him chirping. I feel so sad for him. My Husband will take him out this evening but until then the poor little guy has to amuse himself in his cage. He has plenty of toys to play with but it's the first time since I got him that he isn't with me all day. I promised him I'd make it up to him. Breaks my heart and I miss the little stinker. How fast they wind their way around our hearts.
  18. Her head is not a landing pad. She said she's trying to do some paperwork but she's laughing so I say it's all good. Phoenix
  19. Well, Mommy won and my name is now Phoenix. Daddy said it grew on him so he likes it too. Mommy took me to see this really nice man today. She said he's a Dr. that takes care of birdies like me. He said I was VERY healthy and very well socialized because I was very comfortable being held on my back by him and this nice lady that was there with him. He stuck something in my mouth which I didn't like too much and then they put some of my droppings on this big long stick with white fluffy stuff on the end. Now why in the world would they want THAT? The lady left and came back and said my results were really good and that my bacteria levels were really low especially considering I'm still being hand fed. He said I weight 277 grams. Mommy called me her Big Boy and I fluffed up my feathers for her. Now I am going to take a little nap because it's been a busy morning.
  20. He is a little monkey. This morning when I took the cover off the cage he was all the way at the top on his boing. It made me nervous. We put a couple of perches low and kind of made a ladder so it would make it easier for him but nope he loves that boing. He eats soo well. I gave him more of the hand feeding food and this time I put a little bit of organic sweet potato baby food in it and he loved it. I make it almost like an oatmeal and feed him with a spoon which he is constantly trying to steal. He is also eating Zupreem Natural and I will slowly switch him to Harrisons. He is just over 3 months old and I was wondering if it was too early to start him on whole vegetables. I have some sweet potato's, broccoli and brown rice and have to go shopping tomorrow so I will get more. He is such a sweetheart and I am thrilled with how well he has adjusted so far.
  21. Well, he seems right at home in his new cage. I gave him some more hand feeding formula and now he is in his food bowl and hasn't left it for about 10 minutes. We are a tired bunch but so happy to have him home. Time for a little cuddle time then it's bedtime for the baby and Mommy too. Thank You everyone. I will post pictures soon. We are between two names and neither of us will give in so it's either Phoenix (Me) or Zeus (Hubby). I think I might win. lol
  22. We are getting ready to head out for the final leg of the trip. He was awesome on the trip. I had the music on low and was singing (Which I apologized for several times) and he just sat on his perch most of the time making little noises. He managed to pull the newspaper through the grate so I had to stop and fix it but he kept doing it so I just took the paper out. They made me promise not to take him out of the carrier at the hotel but he's not talking yet and I'm not telling. lol He ate like a champ. I made the hand feeding formula a little thicker, kind of like oatmeal and fed him with a spoon which he tried to steal several times. He did get a good bite in but it was my fault because he was sitting on the perch on top of the carrier and I had my back turned and I heard this gust of wind and turned quick to catch him but he didn't feel secure and grabbed on to steady himself. YOW! lol I didn't react but I have a nice black/blue mark. He is sooo sweet. He already has me wrapped around his little wing. He goes to the Vet on Tuesday. We'll be home in about 5 hours and I can't wait to show him his cage and toys.
  23. Well it's the countdown. I leave VERY early in the morning, pick him up tomorrow and we'll drive for a little bit. I have a list of hotels along the way that allow pets so when I feel he and I have had enough I will stop. He will be home by sometime Saturday and we are soo excited. Thank you again everyone for all of your advice.
  24. lol murfchck that would be hysterical if Bongo started saying "AAAAH Rickie" or "Lucy you got some splainin to do".
  25. Thank you everyone for you kindness. I have decided to split the trip and stay at a hotel. I have a large carrier and he should be very comfortable. I promise no drinking or dancing. lol
